More about Hotel Monterey Nagasaki

More about Hotel Monterey Nagasaki

In tribute to Portuguese colonialism, this European-styled hotel oozes charm and boasts a great location close to Glover Hill. Although the hotel sits on a quiet street, the commotion of Hama-no-machi shopping arcade is only a 15-minute walk away, while anything not within walking distance can be accessed via the tram with the closest stop just down the road from the hotel. Located at the bottom of Hollander Slope, the Hotel Monterey Nagasaki will steal the hearts of romantics with its tiny chapel and museum devoted entirely to kerosene lamps. The hotel represents the relationship that Nagasaki shared with Portugal.

Winter Vacation At Nagasaki”

During our winter vacation at Nagasaki, we stayed at the Hotel Monterey. It was a very pleasant stay. The staff were very helpful like directions to famous sight seeing spot and providing all that we need. The breakfast was very good. Big selection of food and they even serve Nagasaki specialties like the Nagasaki special noodles and castella, The room is spacious and a good nostalgic design. The exterior design of the hotel is also great. Another best thing is that it is walking distance to famous places like the hollander slope, glover garden and very near the tram station. There are lots of shops nearby and convenience stores. I highly recommend to stay at Hotel Monterey Nagasaki specially if you will travel with kids. They will surely enjoy the experience

Great Location for Battleship Island Tours”

Good Price, Great Location, Easy Access

I found out about this hotel from the Gunkanjima (Battleship Island) Concierge website map. I was looking for a hotel near the boat dock since we were on the morning cruise, and this one is the closest one -- literally across the street from the boat check-in office. On their English map, the hotel is actually listed as the "Montley Nagasaki," a distortion of the Japanese pronunciation of "Monterey". For those doing the Gunkanjima trip, the hotel couldn't be in a more convenient location. The front desk staff spoke limited but passable English. Very friendly and easy check-in and check-out. The hotel is located in the south of city right next to one of the tram stops, but it's only a 1,000 yen taxi trip from Nagasaki station if you don't want to wait for the trams. The Peace Park and Atom Bomb stuff is located in the north of the city not far away. Easy 10 - 15 minute cab ride or else you can take the tram with one transfer. TV just had Japanese stations, but the Internet was fast and reliable. The hotel's restaurant gets rave reviews, but there are also plenty of other eateries in the area so no worries about food. We ate at the Gusto Cafe across the street and the food was great. 24-hour convenience store is located right next door.

Great staff!”

Great helpful staff. Location.

The staff at Monterey are fantastic. We needed to arrange a ferry for later in our trip, the hotel staff were kind enough to make a phone for us in japanese (we are english speakers) to organise this for us. This was beyond the call of duty and the staff obliged without hesitation. The hotel staff also provided us information about the Nagasaki nightscape and provided discount tickets to the ropecar and timetable for free bus. Our room was small double, it was clean and a decent size. Maybe a little over furnished for such a small room. Location was just a short walk from Chinatown and the restaurant district. Didnt have a chance in our schedule to visit the hotel restaurant so i can't comment. Would definately visit Monterey again when I visit Nagasaki. Thank you

Great Place in Quiet Area”

Had an excellent stay at Hotel Monterey. A classic-vintage style hotel that was very comfortable, clean, and homey. The staff was very helpful and willing to assist with questions we had about places to visit in Nagasaki. We would definitely stay there again.

Very good”

Good location and courteous staff always ready to assist. The hotel is clean, tidy and provides a good rest from all the walking! For those on SunQ pass, you should look out for a light green colour building across the Nagasaki Bus Terminal to take bus #30 or #40 at the bus stop facing the road. Alight at "City Medical Center" which flashes on board the bus. Monterey Nagasaki hotel is just behind New Tanda Hotel. It takes less than 15mins to get there by bus.

Quirky Historical Charm”

Location, decor, complimentary internet access
none

Hotel Monterey combines the typical comforts and amenities of a good Japanses business hotel with the charm of architecture and decor typical of the historical Portuguese enclave in Nagasaki. Hotel is an easy walk to Glover gardens, Oura Church, Chinatown, and the waterfront. Two streetcar lines at the end of the block will take you pretty much anywhere else in nagasaki. In-room wired internet is fast and reliable.

Nagasaki Hotel Monterey”

Great hotel easy to find on my first trip to Nagasaki. Italian restaurant a bonus for value, food and service. Hotel rooms very good size - enjoyed Room #817 which had water views. One block from streetcar station and two stations from Nagasaki Airport Bus terminal. Bonus able to purchase daily streetcar ticket. Staff helpful and highly professional.

European style hotel”

large rooms

we found the hotel monterey nagasaki to be very nice. the hotel is clean, the rooms large, and the staff very helpful. we would certainly stay there again. the hotel location is sort of away from the center of town, but that just means its quiet. there is a trolly stop just one block away so accessing the city's main spots is very easy. we only had two complaints. first, we do not recommend that you eat at the hotel. it is way overpriced and there are many great restaurants close by. second, the hotel does not have laundry facilities. there is a laundro-mat about two blocks away, but i believe a hotel of this size should have something for its guests.

A classic hotel”

Our stay was great and the hotel was beautiful and romantic with European style design. Location also great as the tram was near beside other tourist spots such as glover garden, holland slope, aura church and chinatown. Breakfast was so much choice and delicious as well and staffs were polite/friendly and never failed to greet us whenever we went in or out. There was a free shuttle bus to and from Mt Inasa(a must visit) ropeway station from hotel but you have to book yourself via smartphone in advance. Nagasaki such a beautiful and romantic city.

Great Location and Staff”

!. Great location. 2. Accommodating staff. 3. Excellent breakfast.

This is a great location, near the streetcar stop and easy walking distance to Glover Gardens and Chinatown. Our room, while cozy, was larger than most Japanese hotel rooms. The staff speaks limited English, but were very nice and accommodating. This is a fine hotel for the money. We enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to book it again on our next trip to Nagasaki.

Good Location and Money for Value”

The hotel is only 0.5 km from the highway and it is very close (within 10 min walking distance) to attractions such as Glover Garden, Oura Catholic Church, and only 15 min drive to Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum. The staff can speak simple English and they are very helpful. The only downside is that the car park of the hotel is in the basement. You need their staff to assist you when driving in and out of the elevator, which is a little clumsy and inconvenient. Their parking charge is relatively expensive (JPY1,800/night). I found that it is much cheaper to park in the public car park such as the one opposite to the Confucius Museum, which is only 5 min walk from the hotel. It only costs JPY300 from 8:00pm to 9:00am.

nice change from the regular japanese hotels”

difference to others

nice location, nice surroundings. great point of difference having a european design and look. the room had a very nice view as we had a corner room- room 710. Nagasaki was fun at night too- being a japanese city in a valley meant it wasn`t sprawling like many and the city centre was crammed with action. Highly recommend the city and this hotel. thanks
