In a quiet but convenient location. Good value - you get what you are promised, rom of the size specified, clean, hot water, better wifi than many more expensive places, helpful. Only downside is breakfast only available from 7 am - not good for early morning starts.
Home from home”
We had a lovely stay at this hotel, the staff are perfect host. Our room was large and comfortable, WI-FI worked well in the room. The room was cleaned every day. This hotel does not have all mod cons but it's still perfect. We had breakfast and tried an evening meal, very good. These people of Nepal are wonderful.
Great value in a quiet location”
This is the fifth Kathmandu hotel I've stayed in, and probably my favorite thus far. The accommodation was no-frills, but: 1) The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. My transport from a remote part of Nepal was delayed a day. I called them to let them know, and they were fine to shift my 2-night reservation a day later without paying extra. 2) By far the fastest internet I've ever used in Nepal (faster than any expat-filled cafes, pricey hotels, or private homes where I've used the internet). 3) Conveniently located in Thamel, but off the beaten path in an alley, so I wasn't kept awake by taxis and motorcycles (but there were several yappy dogs in the vicinity). 4) Tasty breakfast with healthy choices (Nepali food is about 95% carbs) and unlimited free tea and coffee throughout the day. I'd stay here again. Great value!
Great hotel in Kathmandu”
Had a lovely stay in Mums Home. The room was very big, comfortable and clean, it felt like home after having been trekking for 2 weeks! I will definitely stay there when I'm back in Kathmandu, as the location is very convenient, close to Thamel and Durbar Square, yet in a quiet area. Staff was always very helpful and friendly, providing an excellent service.
all good, nice people, fine facilities, great breakfast. the only problem was that my room was near to the neighbouring building - about a 2 metres away - and these people rose at sometimes very crazy times like three or four in the morning and would talk and clear their throats..it was very disturbing. next time i stay i will get another room
Home away from home”
I had a fantastic stay at Mum's Home after days of Travelling in Nepal. There is always hot water (if you have experienced the dust in Nepal). Staff is very informative and helpful. Breakfast is nice - better than even the 4/5 stars I would say in Nepal, which I have stayed with. Location is superb, at the heart of Thamel in Kathmandu. It's like another home away from home!
Clean, Bright & Comfy Hotel”
Facilities: Strong Wi -Fi connection, Refill drinking water & Hot shower (available at anytime), Room come with heater ( feel very warm and nice during winter; they run own generator hence no issue with energy rationing in Kathmandu. Location: Heart of Thamel. Strategic location for shopping & dinner. Around 5 mins walk to Himalayan Java coffee & Rosemary Kitchen & Coffee Shop. Near to tourist spot such like Durba Square & Swoyambhunath ..walking distance around 20 to 25 mins. Staff : Friendly, helpful and attentive service Value: Worth the value. Recommended Hotel.
Best staff, rooms food and location”
I had two days in Kathmandu and stayed at this place and I didn't want to leave because the food was great, location very quiet, and the staff were so sweet and helpful. The rooms were so clean and excellent
Highly recommended Kathmadu stay”
Our stay at Mums was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Any enquiry or request was quickly followed up on and sorted. The rooms are very comfortable and quite spacious and with the Hotel set back in a small side street very quiet as well. Hot water continuous and with good pressure and the power breaks were almost unnoticeable. The Tour desk attached to the hotel is also very helpful if you need assistance with Trekking etc. Would definitely recommend as a comfortable stay in Kathmandu.
One of the best options in Kathmandu”

Sanctuary amid the Thamel chaos”
Using reviews our Daughter selected Mums Home. We were well looked after from arrival to departure, Hotel can be hard for Taxis etc. to find so ensure you have a card or at least their phone no. When heading out further than walking distance. Restaurant is good and menu varied, brekky with the room option is also good value. Would recommend to anyone looking for mid range accommodation.
Will stay here again and again”
I had a horrible stay in another hotel, so transferring to Hotel Mums was a breath of fresh air. When I arrived at Hotel Mums, I had an awful sore throat, so they served me hot lemon and tea right away. They also expressed concern about my condition and suggested I go visit a doctor. The next day, when I got sicker, the hotel driver and one of the staff members accompanied me all the way to the hospital and waited for me to be treated as an out patient. It was my first time to get medical attention in a foreign country so it was a rather anxiety-inducing experience, but it really helped that a Hotel Mums staff member was there with me to communicate with the hospital personnel. As for the hotel itself, I found it clean, polished, and homey. The WiFi is quite fast and reliable, and the heater is strong enough to warm our big room. The complimentary breakfast is simple, but varied enough. Hotel Mums a bit far from the center of Thamel but still walkable. There's also an awesome restaurant called Friends Restaurant just beside it, which serves delicious but affordable food, so that's another dining option you have. Overall, I had a great stay, and I think the high ratings this hotel has received so far are well-deserved.
Great place to stay”
We were invited to celebrate their 1st birthday which was very nice. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, the breakfast they supply is fantastic and one of the best we had in Kathmandu. They also provide you with free water, tea and coffee throughout your stay. I would definitely stay here again.
Great Place to Stay”
The hotel is tucked away on a quiet side street, making it a great base from which to explore Kathmandu on foot without being disturbed by noise. Whenever breakfast is included, selections are often mediocre. Not here. The breakfast offerings were so delicious I decided to have dinner in the hotel as well and the food was superb. Complimentary coffee is available throughout the day. Reliable wifi and electricity too. The staff are super friendly. I had a late night flight on my last day in Nepal and even though I had checked out hours earlier I was able to take a shower and freshen up in the facilities on the ground floor. The staff were happy to provide everything that was required. Hotel Mums Home is a real discovery.
Comfortable and accessible.”
Hotel Mums Home is a good and smart choice if you are staying in Kathmandu for a day or two to transit before heading to your next destination. They will offer you a warm hospitality. The staff members are very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my walks in the streets of Thamel. Everything I wanted to go to were near the hotel. It was near to were the souvenirs are sold. There is even a good spa, which is about ten minutes walk from the hotel.
Oasis of calm amongst chaos”
Great location down a quiet side street however there was some early wake up calls from birds. Easy walk down interesting streets to Durbar Square. Tourist buses for onward travel just a short walk away. The staff were very good. The mattresses were extremely comfortable. Shower pressure was weak and this is the only negative point I can think off. Highly recommended.
Excellent place to stay in Kathmandu on a budget”
This is a great place to stay in Thamel. New hotel so very clean, rooms are very well designed, spacious and comfortable. Impeccable service from the courteous and helpful staff. Right in the hustle bustle of Thamel and yet quiet and tranquil as it is located in a back lane. No gardens or views, but this is THE place to be if you are travelling to Kathmandu on a budget and want a great place to spend quiet evenings and nights while you are busy spending all day sight-seeing or shopping. The staff is extremely helpful in organising transport and other logistics. All in all, I would definitely stay there again on all future trips and highly recommend it to budget travellers.
Comfy with mineral water and hot shower”
Pros: free bottled mineral water in room, lobby has free mineral water for refill, functioning and adequate hot shower, A/C works well, multiple charging sockets in room, breakfast not too shabby with sausages, very clean toilet with proper hooks for hanging stuff, clean bed with comfy blanket Cons: towels dont look very clean. Walls are thin but i think this happens almost everywhere in kathmandu. Pigeons gather on the A/C outside your windows in the room so be prepared for some noise in the morning. Tolerable in my opinion. Staff is really helpful and friendly. Lost my phone in a car and the staff on the night shift from 6.30pm 27 Oct to 6.30am 28 Oct went out of his way to help me! Extremely grateful! Definitely worth the money and this is well suitable for family travellers with young and old too. Probably very high standard for a city like Kathmandu.
Staff is very friendly. No elevator in the hotel but the staff help us to bring the luggage to the room
Clean place and in a good location”
Good breakfast, Hot showers, central location in Thamel. Free coffee and tea. The only downside is that there is no elevator, but the porter was extremely swift with the bags
