“3 Night stay”
Absolutely amazing. I had second thoughts about staying at this hotel due to the slew of negative comments about the hygiene and age of the hotel. However I decided to take a leap of faith with the majority of positive comments and I'm glad I did. Location: The hotel is located just a 5 min walk away from Beppu station and is very convenient and easy to access. It is situated directly in front of Beppu Bay, and you simply cannot go wrong with choosing the Japanese style room with the Beppu Bay View. For the price you pay, you get a prime view of the Beppu Bay, the sea, along with the sunrise/sunset. This view can also be admired from the Onsen, and the Breakfast area. First impressions: The hotel did not give any overwhelming sense of being too dated or old. The entrance was sleek and modern, the hallways were neat, clean and welcoming. I think that they have taken the feedback seriously and have taken steps to refurbish/modernize the facilities. Hygiene: No complaints. The hotel is clean and well maintained, did not experience any horror stories as described by some online. Room: - Large, spacious, clean - Some parts do show their age, like the air conditioner, the window panes, the cupboards, but then again most ryokans in Japan are old and share these features as well. - Numerous power plugs Breakfast: - Limited offerings, but the menu is noticeably curated with care and thought, to showcase the specialties of Oita. Food was delicious. The window seats facing the Bay were the best and offered a direct unobstructed view of the sunrise by Beppu Bay while enjoying a hearty breakfast. Public bath: - Small but sufficient. indoor bath has a pretty view of the bay. - Outdoor onsen small, view is partially obstructed by the bamboo poles (to protect your privacy I suppose). I think it would be better if something else could be done (tilted shades?) to allow one way view of the surroundings. - Amenities: Minimal, only provides shampoo/conditioner/body soap at the shower area, but at the drying area there is no amenities such as moisturiser, after shave which might be available at other Ryokans/Onsens. Then again, at such an affordable price, I do not expect these amenities to be offered. Overall a wonderful stay and I would highly recommend this hotel to others! I feel this hotel does take feedback seriously which reflects in the positive experience I've had and well-maintained facilities .
