    “Charming old world style hotel”

We stayed 5 nights at the Nikko, so we feel we know it well and would overall recommend it. The comfortable room was the biggest we have seen in Japan (>350 sq ft), with tasteful decor that feels understated old world. The bathroom is huge and we particularly enjoyed the massive shower and tub stall that felt like a mini onsen. If you need to work as we did, the desk is large but lacks a proper business desk chair that you might find at modern hotels and rather has a very uncomfortable wooden chair. Wifi is good. Location is just close enough to all of the shopping and sites without being overwhelmed with tourists. Only slight negative was everyone we encountered at the hotel, from front desk staff to concierge, really struggle to speak more than basic English, which was a surprise for an international hotel. Also, checking in was an awkward experience as the clerk aggressively tried to upsell us to a more expensive room on a higher floor, which made the check in experience feel like we were renting a car. Otherwise, we would return for the physical features of the hotel alone!

    “Terrific!”

Such a wonderful hotel. Immaculately clean, comfortable, serene and a great place to retreat to after a long day of exploring. We reserved two twin rooms. Check-in was quick and easy. When we arrived on our floor, we noticed that guests in a couple of rooms were smoking (it is a non smoking hotel). I made the front desk aware of it, letting them know it bothered us. They profusely apologized and assured us they would look into changing our rooms. Upon returning from dinner, they offered us two executive suite rooms on the 16th floor. We accepted. They had a bell hop move our luggage right away and we never looked back. I won’t bore you with all the details but trust me when I say, in that particular room, there was no detail overlooked. The location was great and the staff were ALL so friendly, attentive and helpful. So professional. I’ve stayed at a Nikko hotel before and after my experience at the Nikko Princess, I will continue to seek out this hotel chain. Well done.

    “Superb Experience ”

I stayed here three nights and every day, on coming back, the room was flawlessly clean and arranged. The view of Kyoto and the Tower will stay with me forever. The place is classy, atmospheric and super enjoyable. It is conveniently located to shops and some of many tourist attractions. It captures the city beat and you can have immeasurable amount of fun in the countless cafes and restaurants- bold, avant- garde and traditional or a fusion of both. The staff are helpful and efficient, able to answer all questions. Last but not least, the fridge is stocked with drinks- the finest local produce, for free. I will be coming back.

    “Quiet neighbourhood hotel”

I stayed in the Premium Double room on 12th floor (I think) and the room is clean and large 32m2. Executive Room would mean you’ll be allocated 14th to 16th Floor. For my taste, the furnishings and the design choices of the room is outdated. However, I would have a large clean room, which this was My impression of the front desk was not great. Both check-in and check-out staff seem a bit cold. Perhaps they felt their English were not good. On the other hand, both concierges (who took my luggage at check-in and looked after my luggage at check-out) were friendly. I went to two restaurants in the hotel and again was looked after well and friendly Highly recommend the Tempura Kappa Sagano. The chef cooks in front of you fresh meat and vegetables. Think it was about 50GBP (including 2 x beers, tax) and there is no way I could get that quality of food and service for this money back home. The Japanese Restaurant Sagano I had a lunch kaiseki. This was less expensive and the food was less enjoyable than the first restaurant but still good! I didn’t try breakfast at the hotel (Amber Court). The hotel is surrounded by a large number of places to eat. For breakfast, try Japanese congee at Tomikoji Kayuten (about 10 mins walk from hotel). I got there when it opened at 7am The hotel is situated, which seemed, a quiet part of town. It is nearby a couple of underground stations on two different lines (Shijo and Karasuma). I believe the nearest tourist location, from the hotel, is Nishiki Market, which is about 10 mins walk. I walked from the hotel to Kiyomizu-dera and Gion - about 1/2 hour walk. I read that the Kiyomizu-dera Temple gets very busy, so I had a nice pleasant morning stroll and arrived there around 645am. Even around that time, I could see a couple of tour groups and number of visitors building up. I think if I stay at Kyoto again I will stay around this area. This location seemed more interesting than where the hotel is located in a quiet neighbourhood. I also highly recommend visiting Arashiyama Bamboo Forest / Tenryu-ji Temple and Fushimi Inari Shrine Oh…on my way back from hotel to Kansai International Airport, I had to stand for 2 hours on the Haruka Express because I didn’t reserve a seat. I think there are 8 cars of the train but only 1 or 2 are for the unreserved. Plus the train didn’t leave the station on time (some accident I believe) and there were numerous delays on the journey. Maybe a day before you leave, book a seat and give yourself plenty of time to catch your onward journey!

    “Great hotel”

Overall, really helpful staff and good value for money. Really good bathroom, only thing is that the mattress was a bit old and the carpets was well, but not an issue, also it's very clean. Especially good are the waiters at breakfast and the omelette cook, the buffet itself also has some nice items like the Japanese maple syrup.
