I love this hotel!”
Free parking, welcoming drink, helpful staff, the location... you name it.. everything is awesome. Not to forget their in-room Jacuzzi! It is also a few step walk to legendary roti canai transfer road and just opposite with Nasi Kandar Pokok Ketapang.
Great location and service for family holiday”
My sister and family were in SIN for holiday and we decided to arrange a short trip to Penang for eating trip. Hotel Penaga is really very convenient to many locations and within walking distance. I would like to commend the GM's personal service when we 1st checked in. He showed us some of the famous eating locations and recommending where to go (all within walking distance). And on our last day, there was still 1 more snack on our list that we couldn't find. He made a special trip to get it for my family. Kudos to him that we completed the list we made before we arrive :-) Jeannette
pity about the credit card”
I removed my credit card from my wallet once while in Penang -- for the security charge at the hotel. One month later, someone tried to charge $800 on the card at a location in Penang. Card cancelled, hope the hotel deals with their IT security issue.
Wonderful boutique hotel in heart of Georgetown”
Our stay at Hotel Penaga was a wonderful respite after a disappointing experience at the previous place we stayed in Penang. The location is wonderful if you are looking to experience the street life of Georgetown. The room itself was quite nice, with a wonderful balcony to enjoy the evenings. I had seen previous complaints about the breakfast, but we found it very good, with nice, fresh variety. The pool is tiny, but that was okay. The staff were unfailingly kind and made our stay a very positive experience-when we make it back to Georgetown, this will be the place we look to stay at!
Good service - The rooms could use some repairs”
We had a good stay at Penaga with our family, the staff provided good service and its a great location in Georgetown. The room had an issue with the Aircon the first night, would recommend updating the aircon units and fixing some of the furniture in the room.
Lovely weekend away”
We stayed here over a weekend and it was a great place to adventure out from. It's located a short walk from many of the best eating places in Georgetown and lots of the famous Penang Street Art can be found close by.
Beautiful rooms with comfortable beds and an absolutely massive bathroom, on the pricey side. We didn't try the breakfast (it's Penang, you go out and stuff your face with hawker food!) so cannot comment. The room we first got was smoky so the staff immediately obliged and got us another room. They also gave us helpful recommendations on places to visit around Georgetown.
Lovely Heritage Building in the Middle of It All!”
For a weekend getaway from Singapore, I booked 4 rooms at Penaga Hotel for a group of 8 adults (3 Hutton Deluxe and 1 Transit Suite). We were pleased to arrive with an upgrade to the Clarke Terraces for two of the rooms, part of a full two-story terrace house to ourselves. The downstairs living room was a great socializing and meeting place for the group before going out together. The original Transit Suite was beautiful and spacious, but if you are in the lower floor, you will hear people walking on the old creaky wood floors above you all day and all night. We ended up switching to another Transit Suite on the top floor. The staff was very accommodating and we enjoyed that room much better. Breakfast was pretty basic , but satisfied us. I'd recommend checking out the cute cafes around Penang instead. Overall, the hotel was great for what we wanted!
Very Good Service & Location”
Service & location were very good. Friendly & helpful staff and guards. Walking distance to Kimberley Street. Pretty nice antique furnishings with comfortable beds. Clean. There is jacuzzi in the bathroom, however, didn’t get to use as we were out most if the time. We were given complimentary high tea which was just average but a good gesture by the hotel. Complimentary wine was great too ! Some areas of improvement require attention though. Choice of breakfast was rather limited & tasted bland. The only food we enjoyed was the curry puffs served during high tea, they were good. Sound proof rooms will be great cos the noise from the motorbikes on the road was horrendous. The hotel pool is small, no one swims, more like part of decoration. For that price, it will be good to see some improvements in future. Overall we had a pleasant stay there.
Had a jacuzzi in the bathroom. First night it would not start which was disappointing. Second night it started but then we could not turn it off which was very annoying. Helpfull staff came and turned it off at 1 pm. Apart from that very good experience with good service and always with a smile.
Not too bad”
First, I booked a trishaw ride from where the hotel is to Chulia Street which I wasn't informed how much it would cost me. Basically a walking distant cost me RM50 which the trishaw rider said he had to share the profit with this hotel front counter. Which means, Penaga staff is making side income. Secondly, the room I got 3rd floor Room30 aircond wasn't working to its full effect. It wasn't cold even with the ceiling fan full on. Otherwise, I'd still come back giving this property a second chance.
Not for us”
We are used to a little more luxury. The rooms are very old as expected but you also get this weird old smell. The bath was a jet bath and when we turned the jets on they stank of sewage so we stopped using it. The air con wasn’t great, some nights we struggled to sleep. Service was ok, however they would miss simple things when servicing the rooms. I wouldn’t recommend I would pay extra and stay at a different hotel.
Hotel Penaga review”
Price is on the high side. Facilities are so so. They try to maintain the vintage impression, but I feel some of the furniture are quite worn out. The meals are rather disappointing for the price paid. I'm sure there are better choices around. Only the staff is commendable.
Paid a room for 3 pax but room only equipped with a king/queen size bed!”
As title, I made bookings and paid for a room for 3 adults but the room comes with only a king/queen size bed. Definitely not big enough to fit 3!! When I asked for extra bed & comforter - I was told that they do not have it. They could only spare a bed sheet.
the only thing that good in this hotel is the staff.”
Book with 5 star hotel price but 3 star room and facilities. I am speechless on the cleanliness, water pressure, breakfast service, and the quality of sleep of this hotel. Our suite is super dusty with some pest problem ( mosquitoes, moth and I could hear there is some noise from the rats). The room is extremely noisy and couldn't get a good sleep because our room is next to an alley there is alot of noise from the traffic and the construction nearby. The room come with massage shower but sadly no water pressure the hot water quickly run out and need to wait another 30min for the hot water. Couldn't enjoy a comfortable shower after a long sweaty walking tour in the town. And the suite room that facing main road is super hot it takes a very long time to get cooler sweaty sleeping night not comfortable at all. The location is good and the staffs is doing excellent in problem solving and we really appreciate the effort but it's just the problem of the facilities that makes us unpleasant.
Very good location, beautifully decorated, jacuzzi was a nice surprise, clean room and a poster bed. I would definitely stay here again.
Hotel is great in almost respects. Kept clean. Nice rooms. Excellent and friendly but flexible service. Only issue is the limited breakfast. I would skip it and hit the street. No shortage of options available

Comfortable, premium & vale for money ”
Spent 4 days with 3 older children for Chinese New Year celebration. Everyone enjoyed the stay with clean comfortable rooms & lot of privacy. It's good value for money for a 5 starred boutique hotel at the center of the city, easy access to many places of interest especially the famous Penang food.
Great Value For Money”
The hotel is in the middle of the town, which is very convenient to go anywhere. Staff was friendly and helpful. My friend accidentally break a glass but they did not charge any extra charges on our bill. Our room was incredibly beautiful and we all enjoyed the Jacuzzi a lot.
