Good value, great location”
Being realistic, Hotel Pennsylvania is not a first class hotel. That said however, our room was clean, had all the basic necessities and was more than adequate given that, on a short trip to New York as we were (four nights) you tend to spend little time in the hotel. I was somewhat worried beforehand having read some of the negative reviews on Trip Advisor, but our experience was that we have certainly stayed in much worse places and we would stay there again. It is true that the hotel is a little tired looking and good definitely do with a refresh, but for the price we paid it was certainly acceptable and there were no serious bad points. The worst I can say is that the window of our room could have done with a serious clean on the outside, but we spent almost no time looking out of the window! If you want smart luxury look elsewhere and expect to pay considerably more. The hotel is in a great location, being right opposite one of the main entrances to Penn Station, which was perfect as we flew in to Newark and the train from there goes in to Penn Station. It is also quite central in Manhattan, making it easy to get to most places we wanted to go to – easy walk to the Empire State Building, the Rockefeller Centre, Times Square, Central Park, the Highline, etc., almost next to Macy’s, and Penn Subway makes it easy to get to other places. We were advised by one of the receptionists to go to Cafe R, 116 W 32nd St, for breakfast, a short distance from the hotel side entrance going east on the opposite side of the road. This was a bit “greasy spoon”, but great value. The breakfast platters consist of an omelette of your choice plus home fries (better known in the UK as saute potatoes with onions) and either bacon, sausage or ham for only $4.99. We bought one each on the first day, but realised that one between us was more than enough. They also do lots of other things including a breakfast buffet charged at $8.95 a pound weight. Not all that bad!”
Just returned from a 6 night stay at the Hotel Pennsylvania. Having read some of the reviews we were expecting a lot worse than we experienced. Yes, it is pretty basic and in need of some modernisation and generally a cost of paint throughout and some new carpets, but we found our room (427) clean and tidy with a comfortable and en-suite bathroom. Some of the reviews on here amd trip advisor are less than complimentary and it is a little unfair. If you want the Plaza or the Four Seasons then go ahead and book them, but if you want a hotel that's functional, in a great location for all the sights and easy to get to from the airport, I would recommend the Hotel Pennsylvania. There are plenty of options nearby for breakfast. We used the hotel as somewhere to sleep after a long day exploring the city and found it welcome relief from the madness that is NYC! Easiest way to to hotel from JFK is take the airtrain to Jamaica station and the the LIRR to Penn Station.

Great stay as always”
Stayed in the Pennsylvania on two previous occasions I was not disappointed with my third visit. First visit with the kids and was a little apprehensive having read recent reviews on a number of travel websites. Can't fault the hotel for anything, room was immaculate, cleaned everyday, staff were all friendly from the bell man to the luggage room nothing was a problem to them. Location is brilliant and thanks to Agoda very reasonably priced considering it was Easter weekend. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Súper ”
Okay Let me start off by saying I was terrified to book and go forward with the reservation because of all the negative reviews but Let me tell you I was super impressed not only was my room super clean and HUGE. and bathroom superclean staff was super friendly and willing to help not to mention the location! There’s a friendly bar across the street Called stout highly recommend all these negative reviews I read were far from the truth in my experience yes the hallways amd the door of the hotelroom are a little bit outdated could use a new furniture but honestly who goes to New York to stay in their hotel ? Again super satisfied will book again with every single hard earned penny.

My Night At Hotel Pennsylvania”
My night at Hotel Pennsylvania was an enjoyable one. I liked that I didn't have to walk far, or wait for a taxi to take me to my destination once I got off my train, the hotel is located right across the street from the station. I was greeted at the front door and walked into a nice bright lobby. I totally enjoyed the view from my room. My only complaint was the long two hour wait in line to check into the hotel. Other than that, my night at Hotel Pennsylvania was fantastic.

Great Location”
The hotel is located in the heart of the Manhattan, between Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. It is on walking distance (about 10 min) from Times Square and about 15 min from Greenwich Village. Room and bathroom were large for NY standards and very clean. Furniture is fine but do not expect anything fancy. A number of restorants is around the hotel. Because of Pann Station and close subway station, the commuting is very easy. Caffee bar inside hotel works 24 hours. The services are very good. Waiting time at reception desk was minimal. I could recommend this hotel to NY visitors. Price/performance ratio is great.

Creating Family Memories in New York”
I could describe our stay at Hotel Pennsylvania in 3 words - awesome, wonderful and memorable. My family and I enjoyed the room that was given to us on the 17th floor. We had the awesome window view of the city with the colorful lights of the Empire State Building. The rooms were spacious, which accommodated the needs of each member of my family. The service was fast, when we needed some repairs, the maintenance guys were very prompt, pleasant and very professional.

Locatoin, location, location”
Despite all the negative comments about this hotel, Hotel Pennsylvania is a good hotel for its price and superb location. I was afraid that there would be bed bugs as some reviews have mentioned, but there was none. Just don't expect too much and you'll be fine. I did encounter some snags with the hotel when I arrived but they fixed it quickly. First, there was no towel in the bathroom when I arrived. Second, I couldn't turn on the hot water from the shower because the knob was turned off quite tightly. But they quickly (around 10 minutes) sent someone to the room to fix it. The only thing I didnt like about the hotel is that there was NO free Internet Access. The good thing is, there's a McDonald's that's open 24 hrs beside the hotel so we get our WIFI fix from there. Just get something from the Dollar Menu and you're good. Another concern is that the water in the shower was leaking the whole day. I hope the plumbing dept can fix that.

Long lines to check in”
The Hotel Pennsylvania has epic lines to check in......and I mean epic. Bring a book. I've been staying there for years and they have done nothing to try and improve this. All I can say is, you get what you pay for. If you want a better experience, go to the W. If you can get beyond a 1-2 hour line to check in, then this is the place for you at a great price.

Excellent stay would come back again”
Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Stayed here for 6 nights. The hotel is an older one however the rooms were clean and spacious for New York. The hotel is right opposite Penn station and Madison Square gardens so getting around New York on the subway was not a hassle at all. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is on 7th avenue and stores such as Macy's and H&M are located closeby as was Kmaart. The hotel is a short walking distance from Times Square and I was able to walk to see the plays on Broadway. Due to its location it was always busy and I felt quite safe. Would definitely stay here aagain.

Convenient Hotel for Location”
Overall, this hotel was perfect for the week in New York. I was anxious about it due to the negative reviews but I will be truthful that the rooms are a bit out dated. However, the facilities were clean and the bed was changed everyday as well as the towels being changed for clean ones daily. Everything was great!

GREAT overall hotel.”
The price for the room was incredible So I was not expecting Much, but I was very Impressed. The rooms were very comfortable and larger than I thought I would get for New York city. Location is perfect. I like to walk and found it was easy to walk to great places like Times Square. When I didnt want to walk it was easy to just walk around the corner and the subway station is right there. I walked around all hours day and night and felt safe.

Location is everything!”
I had my doubts having read all the bad reviews but we needed to stay close to Penn Station. They're wrong. It was an excellent choice for us and we would pick Hotel Pennsylvania again next time. We were on the 5th floor and our room was perfect for two. The King size bed was huge and the room was not huge but certainly adequate. We had a TV, fridge, dryer, iron...and the bathroom was very clean. I don't understand what the people are complaining about. I looked at the other rooms in our group and they also had very nice rooms. One with two double beds was enormous and it also had a clean bathroom. That was on the sixth floor. So, if you want to save your money for shows and other activities, book this hotel without any hesitation. The only hitch to the stay was check in. Huge line, only two people at the desk and we missed the first act. Otherwise, a good hotel.

Fantastic location”
I was very glad on the location for this hotel, a few steps away from a subway station, sightseeing bus stop in front and easy walking distance to time square for an excellent price of the room that you do not really use that much when in New York.

Grand Old Hotel - Updated”
Hotel Pennsylvania is a large city hotel. It was built in the golden age of American railroads across from Pennsylvania Station in NYC, obviously as a companion property to the terminal to attract tourists and business travelers to New York. It has plenty of fast elevators, wide well-lit hallways and comfortable rooms with updated furnishings. The staff responded to my request for extra pillows in a quick friendly fashion. While the hotel is located convenient to Penn Station, dining options are limited - the hotel restaurant is on the expensive side and more budget friendly food establishments nearby tend to be franchises. This is not a drawback if you're familiar with NYC - but - if you're a tourist it can be daunting to find a good meal at a budget friendly price close to the hotel (and this is a shame because NYC is full of great restaurants at every price point).

Haveing traveled and stayed in many hotels in the world this hotel had everything, with all the staff being friendly and approachable. The central location of the hotel made it easy to get to any where you wanted in New York. With the cafe open 24 hours to the use of the gym, you wouldnt want anything more.
