"Good location to the major attractions anf walking distance..."
February 17, 2018
The 155 classical, Spanish-styled rooms at the Hotel Principe Pio are a popular, lower priced option in the town, close to many points of interest. The property is within easy walking distance of popular tourist attractions such as the Royal Palace, Sabatini Gardens, and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. The rest of the city and all it contains can easily be accessed by the very nearby metro station. There is a great, inexpensive breakfast shop next door to the hotel, and there is a myriad of other shopping and dining venues in the immediate area, including the popular carnivore-oriented restaurant El Caballito. Location is the key to a great stay anywhere in the world, and Hotel Principe Pio definitely delivers on that front.
"Good location, near central."

Great location, helpful staff”
The hotel is a 5 min walk from Principe Pio Metro. Thanks to the reception staff for giving us a room with a nice view of the Sabatini gardens. I would like to commend them for being approachable and helpful. There is a Carrefour express near the hotel, a 2 min walk. The room is spacious is clean, a little bit old fashioned though. Would highly recommend to a friend and would book again when I get back
Nice location with a big basement parking lot (20 Euro/24 hrs for the hotel guests)”
The hotel is facing with Sabatini Gardens and you can reach Plaza de Espana within 5 mins on foot. Breakfast was good with quite many menus. The building is quite old, but the room was clean. The elevators are relatively new ones, which are very small though.
Cheap hotel in Madrid city center”
Staff are nice but facilities are old and the room is too smelly!
Good Location ”
We stay for 6 night. The location very good. Close from Station for medium High Speed Train (Cercanias) and close from metro (Plaza de espana). The Staff are nice and helpful
I got a room facing toward the palace on the 7th floor so i can see the palace from my window. Room is big and the bed and pillow is so somfort for sleeping.. Just walk for 5 minutes to get to gran via and there are many eatery on the side of the hotel...
Hotel was old but charming. Bathroom was nice, but floors were sandy in the room. Bed linen was torn. The Royal Palace is not a view- it's across the road and you have to walk to it to see it. All of the above was sufficient for a good review... I asked the receptionist for late check out as I was going on a tour. He told me the latest he could do was an additional hour. I told him that I will cut my tour short to try to be back at 1. He said that I shouldn't 'try''...I must be back by one or he will bill me EUR20 for the additional hour. His tone was rude and abrupt. There are many ways to communicate the penalty fee- he could have exercised some tact. Not a good person to have a client facing! The other staff were kind and helpful.
Good value for money”
This hotel is an older style hotel and about 10 minutes walk from the main tourist streets such as Gran Via and Calle Mayor. The rooms contain a desk, 2 chairs & a small cupboard. The lighting was a little poor consisting of 2 bedside lamps, one on the table & a light in the corridor. Two bottles of water were provided in the fridge daily. The room was quite hot but opening the window provided relief. The bathroom was spacious & there were hygiene products provided daily. Breakfast included both hot and cold options. Cereals, juices, cheeses, cold meats, fruit, pastries as well as pancakes, scrambled eggs & boiled eggs. The boiled eggs were prepared overnight and placed in the fridge which made them quite cold and somewhat unpalatable. Fresh coffee made from coffee beans was great. Some of the fruit was canned which made us think of the 1970s. The breakfast staff were helpful and efficient. The lifts were small but efficient; accommodating 2 people with luggage. Good value for money.
Great location, super clean & professional staff!”
Close to many sites, clean, good breakfast, comfortable beds and great staff. Cons: The elevators were very small and furnishings could be elevated to give more of an impression! Entrance could also have a little bit better hotel/ name ad presence/defined as several local relatives past hotel entrance.
Good location for vacation in Madrid ”
Our first time to Madrd fior a one week vacation. The hotel is at a good location. Walking distance to the Palace Real , Gran Via, Plaza Espana. And a short walk to major metro stations. An older property but well maintained. Excellent full breakfast , helpful staff . Most spoke English well. Only downsides were that it was a little noisy at night , so ask to be on the side away from the street and also double bed was 2 singles pushed together( not sure if that’s for all rooms or just this one). But overall we were very pleased with this hotel as a home base for a week of sightseeing in Madrid and would not hesitate to return there.
Hospitable staff, sufficient food and beverage facilities but on ground floor lobby, do not expect in-room tea/coffee facilities. Twin classic elevators for maximum 4 person without bags.Probably need to rejuvenate cushioning for most chairs in lobby . Location is excellent - walking distance ( approx 100meters uphill ) from train station . Just few days away from local food outlets, souvenir shops and super-cor minimart . Convenient fro sightseeing transfer.
good location. walkable distance to tourist spots
Nice and clean little hotel ”
Nice and clean hotel near the main streets of Madrid. Easy access from the underground Plaza Espana.
Lovely hotel near to transport links”
We thoroughly enjoyed our two nightstay here. Right next to the palace and only a 15 minute walk to the centre. Very close to metro stops and the city tour madrid hop on bus tour. Would certainly stay here again.
This hotel was wonderful and very central. Everything was spotless and the staff were most attentive and polite. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. There was a large selection for breakfast and we visited the little Cerverceria on the corner up from the hotel for our evening meal. There's a really good shopping centre 5 mins down from the hotel. The Royal Palace and the Cathedral are just across the road. and the Retiro Park is a bus ride away. Marion and Isobel
Good place to stay and good location”
This place is about 800 meters up the hill on a street Cuesta de San Vicente, 14 towards Plaza de Espana. Very helpful staff. Good breakfast but same every day. No variety. Good 24 hour coffee loby where one can have free of charge hot drinks. Would recommend.
Right across the street from palace. ”
Walking distance 18 minutes to plaza de Espana. Wonderful flamenco show close to hotel in the tabala. It is a 10 minute walk to the metro. The rooms were immaculate. The sheets and towels were high thread count. Lovely sized rooms by European standards. Would highly reccomend to get the superior view. It is quite magnificent and unique. We only stay overnight before we caught a flight out but the staff were wonderful. Would reccomend again.
just at the back of palace, good place to visit and great access to traffics.
Clean room and great bed and sheets”
The bed is very comfortable and the room is clean. The hotel is located right next to the palace and close to shopping district. very convenient.
very nice hotel”
good location to the major attractions anf walking distance to METRO and to squares. Nice and delicious breakfast. Very friendly staff.
I don't recommend here”
The real room condition is not same as picture. And also the heating system is not working. The hotel is quite old building. I think it is too expensive for staying.
