Wonderful Neighborhood from which to explore Rome!”
Good neighborhood, Close to good restaurants/cafe/deli, Price
I stayed for three nights at Hotel Re Testa in the Testaccio neighborhood of Rome, not far from the Colosseum, as a solo traveler. It was my first time in the city, but I couldn't have been happier with my choice of locations. The neighborhood is much more of a "locals neighborhood" than it is a tourist destination - and as such there is a fairly minimal tourist influence on the restaurants and shops nearby. During my short time, I was fortunate enough to meet several of my local "neighbors" who were incredibly friendly and helpful and I sought to make the most of my short visit to their city.
The hotel itself is fairly non-descript from the outside (from my opinion) above a few trendy bars and restaurants on the corner. However, the rooms were larger than I expected and very clean, with a balcony open area attached (not a stunning view, but very usable outdoor space of your own). The shower head in my room was not in the greatest of conditions, but it was functional. I didn't complain about it, but based on the other interactions I had with the staff I'm sure they would have either moved me rooms or done something else had I brought it up. I speak only English, and I had no issues at all. Breakfast is fairly basic, but most than adequate - and the espresso is very good! There is a really wonderful restaurant up the street called Ojo a Casa Mia run by this incredibly nice Italian family - and they have extraordinary wine and very good traditional Roman / Italian cuisine. All that being said, it is a fairly basic hotel, but very clean and functional - and I think a good value for the money. I would stay here again.
