An outstanding experience at a landmark hotel”

Very helpful and kind staff; stylish and well-kept premises, including the room and common areas; the most central location in the city.

We recently toured Ireland and chose Dublin as our final stop. We opted to stay at the Gresham without reading any reviews, but based merely on location preference and standards of service as advertised by the hotel. We always prefer to stay at hotels that can offer high quality room service, fine breakfast, laundry facilities, wireless internet, 24-hour reception and all combined in an easily accessible location or with on-site parking facilities. Our experience from our stay at The Gresham surpassed our expectations by far. We enjoyed a particularly high standard of cleanliness and tidiness not just inside our room but in all common areas of the hotel. Part of the premises was undergoing refurbishment, but we faced no disruption at all and our access to all areas of the hotel was very easy. The hotel is one of the most central and historic buildings in the city and if anyone wants to be environmental friendly and use public transport from the airport, the airport bus has a stop right at the door step. The hotel offers rooms with stunning views over the main avenue of the city, for those who like people watching, but we were given the option to get a room at the back, in the quieter wing of the hotel. The reception staff were very helpful, welcoming and kind. They even went the extra-mile and offered us to print our boarding passes free, even before we asked them. The breakfast experience met the highest standards of quality, variety and style. We enjoyed great service at the bar and café areas were we had a lovely afternoon tea overlooking the main avenue of the city in stylish surroundings. It is commendable that the hotel seems both family friendly and gay friendly. We were particularly impressed by the value for money that this hotel offered and would definitely recommend it to all our friends and relatives. We are considering it as part of our next anniversary trip.

There are positives and negatives”

Riu Hotel looks great in the lobby, but the room I had was rather dated and tired. There was a rope outside the window, and it kept making noises when wind blew it, brushing against the exterior wall. The mattress and pillows were too soft for my taste. I much preferred the other hotel I stayed in in Dublin, as the room was more modern and it was much cheaper. The location is fantastic though, it's right next to Savoy cinema. The breakfast buffet has a very wide choice of food, and it's very tasty. I really liked the buffet. The jug of coffee is unbelievably big. The staff were very polite too. There are positives and negatives with this hotel, but to sum up, I would stay in the other hotel I stayed in, if I went to Dublin again.

Wish we were there”

Courteous and friendly staff. Lovely room. Great city centre location.

We were very impressed particularly by the guest adviser Aiden who helped us in many ways . There was a small problem with the temperature in our room which was quickly rectified and we had the impression that nothing was too much trouble this is the sign of a good hotel . Having driven for many hours it was great to find that the location of the hotel meant no need to use the car again. Our only disappointment was that we could not stay any longer. Also impressive was that we have received a call to tell us that we left something in the room. Again very impressive. Thank you Gresham Hotel.

Good location and first impression - but room hot, stuffy and dated”

Gresham location is excellent for anything in central Dublin - highly recommend it for that, and I got a very good price on Agoda. Lounge Bar was very nice, but the breakfast was expensive. Gym is a 10min walk away for a nominal fee - but they partner with a really good gym, so no biggie. Room however I was really dissatisfied - judging by the website there are different varieties of room and/or they are phasing the place through an update. My room was very outdated and not consistent with the beautiful building, lobby and facilities. Furthermore, I specifically asked for a quiet room but got 1) extensive maintainence literally outside my door on day two, removal of the ceiling etc., extremely noisy and not what I needed with jetlag, and outside faced the back of the restaurant/bar so garbage trucks etc. were around in the early hours of the morning, plus 2) the air conditioning didn't work - this has been on other reviews too - it was winter and the room was 25C; be VERY careful about this especially in the summer - windows didn't open much (and let in more noise) so it was a problem. It was a short stay so I moved on and I politely explained to the front desk who were apologetic. I have no plans to be back in Dublin, but if I was I would not stay here again unless I had clear assurances that both of the above would not happen again.

Lovely hotel, but nothing special”

Parking, condition of rooms, dining facilities

The Gresham is a lovely old hotel, but I feel that in modernising itself it has lost some of the charm. There was a good buzz to the lobby and restaurants which were always busy. Although we only had drinks, the food looked good. Service was a little slow, because the lay out of the dining areas is probably hard to manage. A couple of extra servers wouldn't go amiss. The room had obviously been recently refurbished and, although not huge, it was nice and clean and in good condition. The location is fine, but it is a walk into the city centre and the shops and restaurants close by did not appeal to us (very touristy) I would definitely recommend this hotel if you get a good deal, like we did.

Old world charm in the centre of Dublin”

Great location, spacious rooms, and reliable wifi

It is a nice hotel with spacious rooms and excellent location in the heart of Dublin, with most attractions within walking distance. The bathroom plumbing is a bit old and not necessarily functioning well (the shower water was hot when you needed it, but the toilet was difficult to flush). Wifi was reliable, but the TV system was slow and clunky to use, without much choice of channels. Room was comfortable and clean. Staff were efficient.

Great central location”

The hotel is in the City Centre district, close to shopping on Henry Street. It's also the first stop for the city Hop On/Hop Off bus so very convenient access. It was a little noisy because of late night Irish football revelers in the streets, but otherwise, a very nice hotel. The seafood chowder in the lounge area was most excellent!

Only come here if you are rich”

Got a tiny room with 2 small single beds after paying a huge amount of money for room. Had breakfast in room - bad idea, on our behalf as no where to put it . Only come to hotel if you are rich and money is no object , then I’m sure you will have a wonderful experience . The hotel itself is beautiful and the location perfect , but , as for the rooms, you would get a much nicer room for the money elsewhere , unless you are rich and can afford to upgrade to a much larger room. (Be awaye, the carpark is £17/night for your car and room service for breakfast is £15 , just fir the privilege of someone bringing your breakfast to the room ...ie they say it is £7.50/gray charge , ..we had our breakfast brought up on one tray but because it’s 2 people, we were charged £15 and that doesn’t include the actual breakfast .

Weekend in dublin ”

The staff are friendly and really attentive, the rooms are a good size and the bar/ reception is a really nice space to sit and chat.

The stay was over all good, you can see the reception staff and bar staff work very hard and seem to be very happy and friendly. Our room was nice, quite large but could do with more modern decor. The hotel was also very pricey for just the room (no breckfast included) but this was probably down to us staying during the ed sheeran weekend and the hotel probably put up their prices as they knew they would get a crowd. Overall we had a nice stay and would stay again if the rates were not as high.

Great location& ambiance spoiled by rude staff”

Location, and ambiance

The Gresham hotel was world renowned as a great hotel. The building remains the same however, unfortunately, the arrogance and power tripping of some of the staff ruin this. As mentioned in one of the other reviews the staff started out as cold and degraded from there. Particularly the Night Manager was rude, condescending and an awful person to have to interact with. I understand that hotels have rules but treated myself and my guests with a total lack of decency and an aggressive and rude attitude. Avoid this man. I am not one to complain without giving the hotel recourse to respond, however when I brought my concerns to their attention I was told that the hotel manager would need to address them. However no one could find him. And subsequently he was 'out of town' and the other staff were 'not sure when he would be back'. No further attempt was made to follow up by the staff. By the way- just for balance the cleaning staff and front desk staff were all nice enough but the poor manner in which they treated my attempt at drawing their attention to their Night Managers terrible attitude means I urge you not to stay here.

Room was very clean and comfortable and had a sitting area with small sofa and armchair. Excellent central location with bus tours right outside and walkable to many main attractions.
