A peaceful oasis in the midst of Kathmandu ”
We spent our last night in Nepal at the Shangri-La after returning from Pokhara. It was great - comfortably warm (it was cold outside), all the modern amenities you expect, comfy beds and really good food at the hotel garden cafe (we even took take-away to the airport for dinner). The staff were helpful and prompt and overall it was just a really comfortable way to end the trip - Kathmandu can be chaotic and it was the perfect oasis just as we were starting to tire of the madness. They also provide really affordable hotel transfers for guests - just USD10, great value in a large hotel car which navigates the bumpy potholes really well!

Exceptional”
Had a wonderful stay at Hotel Shangri-La and had the pleasant experience of an upgrade. The property has a beautiful lawn and excellent facilities although a bit dated. Mr Anil had taken exceptional care and went out of way to make our stay most memorable. The buffet breakfast offers a wide and varied spread. We had dinner at the restaurant and tried Italian which was tastefully crafted. Will be looking forward to be visiting again!

Our Stay at the Shangri-La”
We only stayed one night and in retrospect we should have booked more of our nights in Kathmandu at the Shangri-La rather than try and sample some of the other hotels in town.

Stay amid quiet and latitude that delivers”
The arrival evening was full of calm colours inviting me into the lively quiet of the inmates' zone of the hotel. As the night grew, peace descended and coagulated into solitary dreams. I was seeing Kathmandu through the bay window under a star-blazed dark sky and I could hear the sounds of the distant mountains. It was a kind of relief that my soul was hungry for. At those hours I understood the necessity of my staying in that valley and in an accommodation like Shangri-La.

A welcome oasis in a crazy city!”
We stayed at the Shangri-la for two nights at the end of our time in Nepal, and had a lovely time. The room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast buffet was excellent, and the staff were unfailingly friendly, polite and helpful. Definitely a good decision to stay here!

Nice grounds and great service”
Although not part of the Shangri-la hotel group, you won't notice any decrease in the levels of service. The front desk staff were amazing and always ready to assist, the main restaurant had a beautiful outside area looking onto the gardens and a decent breakfast.

Good hotel at kathmandu”
The hotel is located in nice place, not far from crowded area. Transports and everything is near by. Hotel people are also nice to guide you for your trip. I was there for one night with my 9 years old Son, hotel upgraded my room. The only thing that not match with the hotel as called 5 star is its swimming pool. Its quality, services, maintenance, amenities and management people of the pool is too poor as per my requirement. Overall its worth your money for a short visit or business trip.

lovely hotel”
very comfortable, staff friendly, on third visit were upgraded to Suite room the breakfast was very good, attended the barbeque, a lot of variety of food for meals transport was easy to get to go to town , Dissapointed that hotel did not make arrangements to pick up or sent to airport unlike other hotels in Nepal. Would recommended this hotel to people who can afford it, the garden is very nice. many helpers in the hotel.

Comfortable Hotel but not to Shangri-La's Standard”
Overall good, reasonably priced but not up to usual Shangri-La's Standard. There are functions going on every night which is a bit noisy.

Good”
This hotel has a nice lobby, the grounds are well kept, the pool area was great and well serviced, BUT the room we had was very “tired” and needs some upgrading/updating. We had problems with the safe, the shower didn’t drain and the TV was not working. Maintenance did come and corrected 2/3 items and informed us the TV was the problem of the cable company not them. The floors are old hardwood and there was a nail lifted that my husband cut his foot on. When we approached the desk staff about our experience they were very reluctant to do any compensation. They offered 30% off our 2 drinks bill. This hotel was rated as a 5 Star and we booked it because our trekking company that we were joining in a couple days had booked it and we felt it was most convenient. Because of this I had reluctantly over paid for this hotel for the convenience but always felt it was over priced and the rooms confirmed my hesitation. I do want to commend some of the other good things about the hotel. The staff was pleasant, the housekeeping was very good, and the pool staff were attentive. The breakfast buffet in the morning (included in our price) was very good with lots of variety and fresh options. Again the staff in the dining area were very attentive and professional.

VERY RELAXING HOTEL WITH ATTENTIVE STAFF”
THIS HOTEL IS VERY WELL DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE TOTAL RELAXATION. IT HAS EXCELLENT SWIMMING POOL , MASSAGE AND SPA FACILITIES AND AN EXTENSIVE GARDEN AREA SUITED FOR WALKING, SITTING AND LYING ABOUT IN HAMMOCKS. THE RESTAURANT HAS A FULL WESTERN AND NEPALI MENU AND PROVIDES QUALITY FOOD. I HAVE NO HESITATION IN RECOMMENDING THIS HOTEL.

Excellent Hospitality”
Such a good service hotel with good location near embassy areas, safe and relax. The breakfast area with huge garden is another place spent the most time. The hotel staffs, especially the ReservationManager, Ms Rupa very thoughtful and helpful. Strongly recommended hotel to stay

Great hotel at good location”
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The hotel is located just 10 mins drive from Thamel, the main shopping area. The service was quick and friendly. I also liked the Spa, which I took twice. It's really good value for money considering they actually gave me a 20% discount as hotel guest.

Not at all a 5 star property”
It was just because of one person in our group who was adamant to book this property considering that it's the same property as owned by Shangri-la Group. And another factor was Casino. Otherwise the property rather the staff has little to offer. The property doesn't qualify for a 5 star. The staff was rude at multiple times. The basic factor of courtesy was missing. For example when I ordered couple of repeat items for Room Service, the staff was rude to ask me to leave the food and sign first. Second example was when a Pinacolada Mocktail was ordered and that too with a repeat mention of Mocktail, Non Alcoholic, the alcoholic beverages was given and then none was ready to accept the fault. Well not everything was bad and these were incidents but then as I said it doesn't deserves 5 star. Lot of room for improvement.

needs RENOVATION”
I would say ,it was ok stay ,but after one night we felt like i want to leave . Overall kathmandu as a city is not very nice, roads around hotels are broken and hotel is very old and need renovation.hotel staff was a bit rusty also . Felt like they are charging too much for the shangri-la brand but not worth paying for it .

Funny this fake Shangri La”
When checking in with my Golden Circle Card from the real Shangri La i got an upgrade! They do their best to copy even the smallest item. On the plus side they only charge a little over 100 USD and that includes an ok breakfast for two.
