Great location ”
Not the standard of hotel we are accustomed to but it had everything we like. A gym, pool, roof top bar and room service. Food was nice, staff we’re nice and the pool area is lovely. Just wish the room was large enough to walk comfortably around the bed.
VEry Good Location”
At first, i expected the grand Shangrila Hotels type of structure, but it is not. A small hotel but clean and the location is perfect. The staff is great and very helpful. We were upgraded to the biggest room in the hotel with all the amenities of a serviced apartment. So, it was great, spacious and we had an awesome time.
Freezing cold room, HVAC engineer couldn’t fix, ZERO compensation from front desk”
We only stayed 2 nights. 2 main things that our reservations online didn’t tell us were: (1) There’s a $25 per day resort fee and (2) they charge $50 per day just to park your car. Our room the 1st night got down to about 58-60 degrees. One side of the room had functional heat so we made it blazing hot over there & kept the doors open so some of the heat would transfer. None of this was ideal because we had 3 small kids With us & once one of them is up, they in turn wake the others. The 2nd night wasn’t as bad only because it was warmer outside. Our room still got down to 62 degrees. We called the front desk both nights. The 2nd night, Eric the HVAC engineer (who was extremely genuine, polite, & nice) told us that he knew there was no way he could fix the unit that same night and he understood that we didn’t want to change the room so late at night with the kids being ready for bed. He said the office would certainly compensate us. Upon checkout, ZERO was done for us. Never again 4 us
First impressions good. Second not so good. ”
Only stayed 2 nights and our welcome was excellent - mainly reception staff and Jean-paul (first impressions) it went down hill from there. Pool bar staff were unenthusiastic and the roof top bar staff were rude. As hotel guests it was disappointing that locals visiting for a quick view from the rooftop were offered table service yet we were ignored. That being said the security at the roof top were very friendly and helpful. In summary, a great location that wows with first impressions (including an amazing pool and roofttop bar. However, in a hotel guest services should be paramount. It was not. In terms of the room, ours was on the 3rd floor tucked in a corner. It was very small. We even had someone else’s old gym sock hidden inside the robe! It’s worth noting we booked via a deal on agoda - not sure if this knocked us down the Shangri-la’s pecking order! Worth a stay for the location if you can get a reasonable price and don’t mind average customer service.

Would stay here again. Clean, safe, wonderful staff, right in the middle of everything Santa Monica. Only issue was that the room was very small. There were no luggage racks, or table, but small price to pay for the rest of greatness of this hotel.
Safe and central”
Stayed at the Shangri La for five nights, central to everything in LA. Great restaurants and shopping. Staff were great, especially Adrienne at the front desk. Pool was heated, and the food from the casual menu was exceptional.
One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed at - terrible value for money”
We booked the deluxe double ocean view and immediately disappointed with the room - really small/cramped, very very dated (cracked windows, chipped/battered furniture, the shower a mere dribble, air con didn’t work for more than 15 minutes..). Room was also single glazed so (together with the cracks down the window) made the room extremely noisy from the traffic below - complained immediately and staff did nothing until midday the next day when I was offered another room (lower to the road so noisier and barely any bigger). The general manager was very rude and when I tried to just cancel the booking (we were really unhappy with the hotel!l and wanted to move to any other hotel in Santa Monica!), she laughed and said it’s not refundable. The hotel is having a joke to offer rooms at this price for the quality of accomodation. They clearly acknowledged it themselves as a giant sign in the lobby apologising for the hotel saying it’s going under a makeover...!

First time for a long time that I was cold in a room! it was cold outside and barely warm enough inside. Room was overlooking traffic: noisy Lay out of the room is ill thought, making it difficult to move about the room and have a suitcase in it. Almost as bad as Parisian hotels. WiFi was not good enough I was charged a 25USD fee called "amenity fee", on top of the Agoda fee, which was not indicated at the time of booking. It looks like they make us pay twice for the soap and shower gel!!! LOL Service was nothing special, in fact amateurish. A complete rip-off of a hotel, with pretensions well above its abilities. Don't be fooled by the location: it is at the intersection of a boulevard and a big avenue: not really smart nor chic. I will not stay there again: too expensive for the quality.

Excellent staff and location. Building is older and room entrance is from outside like a motel but room was very clean and comfortable. I then stayed 3 nights at The Peninsula so not apples to apples.
Lovely few days”
Had a great stay at Hotel Shangri-La. I was there for 5 nights and had a great room with a sea view - perfect to wake up to in the morning! The staff were lovely and very helpful. Pool area is lovely. Hotel Shangri-La is also in a fabulous location - right on Ocean Ave within easy walking distance of Santa Monicas shops and restraurants and the Pier. Great stay. Would recommmend.
I booked a street view room yet could still see the ocean from the windows and was happy. Location is accessible to shops, restaurants and mall. Great service from staff I had met who were friendly and helpful throughout my stay.
Hotel tries to offer so much”
Hotel is in prime location stone throw from beech & shopping parade & Shopping Mall. Just 5 mins walk to famous pier but hotel staff are so kind & helpful apart from barman on roof top bar not got good word for them apart from ignorant but wouldn't let hem put me off going to stay again.

Fantastic hotel ”
The staff were absolutely brilliant. They made us feel so special. They let us check in at 8am and gave us a free upgrade to an ocean view room (which had an absolutely amazing view!) Pool area was really nice. Photos don't do it justice. Location is unbeatable. Right near the beach, shops, restaurants, cinemas and Santa Monica pier. I will definitely be back!
