A boutique hotel steps from Union Square, Hotel Spero combines the rich historical aspects of the original Spanish Colonial Revival design with modern elements. The pet-friendly hotel features 236 spacious guest rooms and suites and 3,000 square feet of meeting space. The property also includes a 24-hour fitness center with brand new Peloton bikes, Jarvis’ Corner – a business-savvy co-working space, and New American dining at our onsite restaurant, Jasper’s Corner Tap & Kitchen. Formerly known as Serrano Hotel, San Francisco’s Hotel Spero sits steps from Union Square and is conveniently located near all major attractions. Inspired by the vibrancy of San Francisco and the hotel’s long history in the city, the full, top to bottom renovation beautifully blends history with modernity. The hotel took careful steps to pay homage to its former owner Lizzie Glide, a well-known San Francisco philanthropist, by activating hospitality services that focus on mindfulness, philanthropy and sustainability. These three core values are demonstrated in various designs, from sustainably sourced renovation materials and chemical-free cleaning products to local giving programs, which guests are invited to participate.

San Francisco Treat”
Arrived a bit late at night and check in experience was quick and very efficient. Very welcoming staff offering help in transportation and sightseeing. Excellent location near Union Square. Enjoyed coffee in the lobby every morning and wine reception in the evening. Will definately recommend to family, friends and business associates traveling to San Francisco.
Serrano Hotel”
We really enjoyed our stay at Serrano Hotel. This hotel has a ton of character and each staff member I encounter was delightful. The location of the hotel made the city accessible on foot which was a plus. I will definitely stay at Serrano the next time I'm in San Francisco.
Great Hotel, terrible bed”
Great lobby in a slightly dodgy area of San Francisco. Yes you are downtown, a block or two from Union Square, Theaters, etc., but the Tenderloin and Market Street are dirty, impoverished areas at your doorstep. The room was smallish but neat and clean with good linens. It had restored charm from an earlier era, but the heating system was loud and one of the two beds left me with a backache that took days to recover from. Otherwise a quiet space 17 floors above the city. I might give it another try based on the staff service and the moderate price. We did not use room service or eat dinner at Ponzu, but breakfast was served slowly, at high price and low quality. You're better off at the Taylor Street Cafe around the block.
Very good”
Location was great. Staff was friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. For the price I expected more but it San Francisco so I should have known. Cost me $60 dollars to park my truck over night not much other options to park unless u want a broken window and your stuff stolen. With the tax when u check out and parking fees it cost me a whole lot more then I expected to pay out. Walls were thin in my room I could hear the neighbors conversations.
Very clean and view up top was amazing.”
Very clean and view up top was amazing.Parking is expensive we paid $35-60 to park with a few blocks. Also there is an additional “Urban “ tax which was almost $40 included in fee of room, for amenities and gym.... so factor in some additional fees to this hotel. We paid a total of $210, with parking, to stay there and the thought we got a good deal of $130. Still the rooms, locations and all the rest did make it worth the cost, and you are downtown SF!!
Great new renovated city hotel”
I stayed at Spero for a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the boutique size, friendly service and central location. The basement gym has new equipment great for a quick work out.
Very good option in Union Square San Francisco”
I got this 4 stars hotel with Agoda secret deals and I wasn't sure what we will get but I was greatly surprised. The location is excellent, with easy transportation to everywhere (we were doing uber anyway). The hotel is very clean and nice. It looks like new. The staff was very friendly as well. Very quality/price with Agoda.
Terrific hotel”
My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Serrano for two nights in November 2008 to celebrate her birthday. Like the other Kimpton hotel we've stayed at, the staff was terrific, and the decor fantastic. The front desk upgraded us upon check-in to a lovely Queen Deluxe on the 16th floor with a terrific view of the city. The central location meant that we could walk to Union Square, Hayes Valley, the Embarcadero, and the North Shore without difficulty. Sure, space is a little tight, but given the historic nature of the hotel, not unexpected. The in-room mini-fridge is not badly priced if you feel like a drink once you've retired for the evening. A fantastic stay!
Short visit in SF”
There are many hotels to choose from in this area. If you want to be in the MIDDLE of downtown you should probably take on of the many hotels 2 blocks west. Serrano is very central but it’s like 1-2 blocks from the shopping streets. I liked the hotel very much. It was clean, not too small and not too big, beautifully decorated and central enough. I had a short stay this time but next time I’m in town I might visit again if the price fairly (like they did this time)
ZAP Hotel 2009”
We were welcomed as soon as we arrived. The door men were always attentive, each and every time we entered and exited. The clerks were very knowledgeable. The room was beautiful. The bathrooms were a bit small but very doable. Everything was very clean. The location was great, easy access to everything. No coffee in room but set up downstairs very early so you basically always had coffee available. I love this hotel and the price was right!
Great hotel, friendly staff, excellent location”
We stayed here for 3 nights earlier this week & loved the hotel. The staff were great & it's an easy walk to Union Square & Powell St BART. The room was very comfortable. Our only negative is that we found the beds to be too soft for our liking. Definitely will stay here again.
Within walking distance to Macy's Union Square”
The check-in time for this hotel is 3pm. When we arrived at 2pm, our room was not ready for check-in. But they provide free luggage storage service. There is valet parking available at this hotel but we decided to park at the public parking garage across the hotel for cheaper rates. The hotel charge a mandatory urban fee of $34.19/night that we had to pay during check-out. The staff said it is for the use of wifi, coffee and tea provided in the lobby. Somehow I feel this fee is unnecessary and they should included it in the room rate on Agoda. This hotel is located within walking distance to the shopping area of Union Square. The room is newly renovated, and looks clean. The bathroom is a rather small, especially the sink area which is next to the bath/shower area. Apart from that, it was a good stay.
Very good”
Beautiful hotel, great facilities. Would prefer tea/coffee making facilities in room, available free in foyer in mornings, but would be nice for evening cuppa, but a minor point and wouldn’t stop me booking again. Located near to area with a lot of homeless but you’d probably be getting Uber/Lyft back anyway because of the walk back from Fisherman’s Wharf area etc. Not far distance-wise, it’s the inclines!!
Excellent location”
We chose this hotel mainly for its location, which is in the heart of SFO Union Square. It's easy to get around. The room is very small, but pretty adequate. There is a bistro/bar downstairs which is pretty good for breakfast or some drinks after a long day.
Lots of class, small rooms”
We brought guests from Belgium to see SF...the hotel is in a good, convenient location and is nicely decorated. However, the rooms were VERY small, with queen beds instead of king and the room temp was tricky to control, with a loud a/c unit. Our two window views were the wall of the building next door, and the unattractive buildings across the street. Not a bad place, but know what to expect, or you could be somewhat disappointed. "Run of House" was misleading.
Decent Hotel”
Comfortable stay. Very old style though. The staff were very friendly. Located downtown, so there were lots of homeless people.
Excellent Option for San Fran Exploring”
Hotel and rooms are nice, the neighborhood is okay, staff very friendly. Affordable option and would recommend especially for couples.
Small rooms and location not so safe”
The decor of this hotel was lovely however the rooms were tiny, the lifts very unstable and the location was very close to a lot of homeless people. With children, even though they were teenagers, I felt the area was not appropriate for walking around and even the hotel staff told us to avoid any street below our hotel which didn't fill us with any confidence in the area.
Quaint but overpriced”
An old building that is well preserved & kept clean etc.. the room was very small though & unless you remember to put the do not disturb sign on door, the maids will come knocking at 8am - daily... there are many other hotels in area that price this place out. If you can, walk around area & shop around
Sorenno Hotel- Union Square SF”
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at the Sorreno hotel in SF. In particular, I enjoyed the hotel's convenient location near Union Square. Though very close to all the actions near Union Square, the surroundings near the hotel feel safe and quiet. I would definitely consider going back next time I am in SF.
