perfect location ”
we had a great stay at Sunroute Kyoto. The location is perfect. Its one block away from downtown Kyoto and just around the corner from all the sightseeing places. There is also a busstop right in front of the hotel. I recommend everybody who arrives in Kyoto at Kyoto station to take the bus to this hotel when carrying your luggage. Some websites say it's a 10 minute walk from the station but it is more than that (even though it's only 2 or 3 blocks away). When not carrying your luggage, it is a nice walk to the station if you want to make a daytrip. The room is small but it's still normal to big according to japanese standards. We had a sofa in our room. This was very nice to just chill on. Also very handy for your big suitcase to place on. Good and clean rooms. Service was also good. The people at reception speak English very well and were very helpfull.

Great location in "traditional Japan"”
Sunroute Hotel is very strategically located, very near to the Shijo-Kawaramachi shopping area, Nishiki food market and also the much anticipated "Gion-Geisha" area. Just a very short 10 mins walk. Also, another 10 mins walk to the train stations that directly goes to the station for the Fushimi Inari temple. There is also a bus stop directly in front of the hotel, that goes to the Kyoto main train station, within a short 10 mins drive. A taxi to the station is less than 1000 yen. Also, coming from Tokyo and by comparison, the hotel room was larger and cheaper. I would say, its a value for money and will definitely stay here again.

nice hotel with good breakfast”
the location of sunroute kyoto is in the middle of kyoto station, kawaramachi & gion. So you can go there by food or by taxi with cheap price. They coin laundry machine so you can wash and dry your clothes. The best is their breakfast coming with japanese & western food. You can having you breakfast while waching beautiful scene of kyoto mountains. The downside is the carpet not so can clean and a little bit smelly and the aircon not work so well. But over all i love staying at sunroute kyoto.

Conveniently located hotel with friendly staff”
I greatly enjoyed my time whilst at Hotel Sunroute Kyoto. The staff were extremely friendly and were very helpful as most could speak English. The hotel was very clean, quiet and the rooms great quality. I didn't pay all that much either. The hotel was located quite conveniently to Kyoto station and the city centre. There's a bus stop right outside the hotel and the bus frequency of that bus stop is excellent (i.e. a bus every 5 minutes on average). Highly recommended.

Great Hotel with helpful staff”
It was a very satisfying stay of 2 nights at Hotel SunRoute Kyoto. Right from the time we reached till checkout, it was a wonderful stay. The staff at reception was very helpful with were always ready to assist with a beautiful smile. The buffet breakfast was very nice with lots of variety (Japanese and Western). Location was great. Only negative point was that the hotel did not have any car parking, but they suggested Yens 1500/day parking close to the hotel. Overall, very happy with the Hotel and its services.

Nice hotel, great location ”
We stayed in this hotel for two nights, it's not near to Kyoto station, advise to take a cab if you travel from Kyoto station. but it's walk distance from Kawaramachi station and near to shopping distict. a bus stop is just right in front of the hotel, very convenient to kyoto station via bus. The room is compact but it's fine with us, everything is so clean and new in the room, we have enjoyed our stay in this hotel.

Great location, nice hotel”
This hotel was perfectly situated. 10 minute walk to Kawaramachi area, 15 minutes to Nishiki market and Gion, and 25 minutes to Kiyomizu Dera Temple. The double room was small but can fit 2 people just fine. There is a nice coffee shop, Cafe Briller on the first floor. Bus access is perfect. To get there from Kyoto station, take Bus 4, 17, or 205 from bus gate A2. Take it to Kawaramachi-Matsubara stop. Hotel is right in front of stop.

Excellent location, comfortable stay”
i travelled with a friend and we spent two nights at hotel sunroute. we were very happy with the location. the gion district was a short walk away and it was very easy to get to key sightseeing spots such as kinkakuji and kiyomizudera and kyoto station by bus. the staff were professional and could speak english and the hotel was clean and comfortable. we requested a non-smoking room, which we did get, but unfortunately we could still smell some smoke coming in through the air conditioning vent. it was annoying but not a big deal. i would definitely recommend staying at hotel sunroute kyoto.

clean hotel but far from train station”
there is a bus stop in front of the hotel. if you're coming from kyoto station, stop at kawaramachi matsubara, cross the street and walk a few meters to get to the hotel. the hotel is clean and staff are friendly. the only downside is that the hotel is a bit far from the train station. if you're going to arashiyama and fushimi inari for instance, you have to take the bus to kyoto station or walk to the nearest train station which is about 15 mins away. we also tried walking to gion and kiyomizu-dera but it's a 20-min walk and once you arrive in gion, you will be too exhausted to explore the area so it's better to take the bus. in our case, we took a cab on our way back. there is only one restaurant near the hotel so we had to walk to kawaramachi station for more choices. there are other hotels which are better situated. choose the ones near kyoto station or kawaramachi station for easy access to tourist spots and restaurants.

Hotel Sunroute Kyoto”
Located Midway between Gion and Kyoto Station; Hotel Sunroute is situated just outside the busy parts of Kyoto, but within walking distance to everything. Single trips on the bus are the standard 220 Yen, Taxi trip to the station is under 1000 Yen. Taxi trip to Fushimi Inari also under 1000 Yen (great for a night trip). I'd recommend this place to friends and family.

Very nice hotel in a good location”
hotel sunroute was a very nice hotel that was close (by foot) to tons of restaurants and the main shopping district of kyoto, and the value was fantastic. however, it was a bit of a haul from subways when carrying luggage. there is a bus and you can take a taxi, and the walk isn't bad at all when not carrying luggage. overall, the staff was friendly and helpful, and it was a beautiful hotel.

A little gem”
I really liked this hotel, it's not much to look at but it was a good price, very clean and the room was a decent size. There are vending machines on each floor, a restaurant on the top floor and a cafe on the ground floor. The cafe was amazingly cheap, the breakfast set here was only. The restaurant do a breakfast and lunch buffet and an a la carte dinner. We only tried the breakfast buffet, it was a decent spread for a decent price but to be honest I preferred the cafe downstairs as I don't eat all that much in the mornings. There is a bustop right outside the hotel and there are several buses that take you to Kyoto station. There aren't any tourist sites nearby apart from Gion and the main shopping area is walkable, takes about 10 minutes, there are restaurants along the way and a convenience store located next to the hotel.

I have been stayed 5 different hotels for last year, and this place was easily the best. it's placement is great for access not only both kawaramachi, and kyoto station but also gion, pontocho and kiyomizudera. great to use any kind of public transportation, with great view on kamo river if you got lucky. staff is very hospitable too, however there was no microwave.

Nice Hotel to stay & right infront of the bus stop”
kawaramachi subway station, 7 mins from hotel and bus stop infront of hotel was really helpful for travelling to hotel. the hotel with its big lobby and friendly front desk, make checking in really comfortable. the room and amenities were good, toilet clean and bed firm and comfortable. i would like to have safe deposit in room but front desk deposit is also ok. our family find the bus stop in front of the hotel very useful as we save on long walking trip from kyoto and kawaramachi station. also, the gion district and main shopping area around kawaramachi station is only 7 mins walk away! overall great hotel to stay.

Soft cotton bath towels were great. The breakfast buffet is on the 10th floor of the building. we enjoyed the great view of the Eastern part of Kyoto while dining. The hotel has a great location with easy access to Kamogawa river for jogging and Shijo-kawaramachi for shopping and restaurants.

Nice hotel for the Kyoto area”
Within about a 20 minute walk of Kiyomizu Dera. Small, clean rooms. Breakfast cafe on the first floor. One of the better deals for hotels in Kyoto. Since we were out all day and didn't spend much time in the room except to shower and sleep, probably wouldn't stay here again. But good for relaxed travelers looking to shop at Kawaramachi nearby...

Excellent”
The hotel is on a good bus route from Kyoto Station and within walking distance from Gion area. The 500yen all day bus ticket made it easy to get to all the main attractions with a stop outside the hotel. The rooms are small but for Japan this is normal. The bathroom is very small with a shower over a small bathtub which again seems quite usual for this type of hotel. The beds were quite comfortable and the room quite despite being at the front of the hotel by the main road. Breakfast was buffet style both Japanese and a small selection of western food. All staff were extremely helpful, very polite and friendly particularly the staff in the restaurant in the mornings. We did not use any hotel facilities but there is a coffee / Italian cafe on the ground floor. The only negative was the room was hot and we found it difficult to adjust the temperature / aircon.

recommend for those allergic skin people”
My sister has severe allergic skin, but the water of this hotel can be drunk from the tap, so there is no allergic problem for her (but when we go to Osaka, I think may be the water of that hotel that we have lived can't be drunk from the tap , so she has the severe allergic problem again after she cleans her face.)So she tells me that she will prefer to live in the Sunroute Hotel in Japan. So it is a good news for those who have allergic skin.

Good Location”
Located on the main street, with direct bus stop in front of the hotel to bring you to lots of best places in Kyoto. Though located on the main street, it is still very quiet. A convenience store is located near the hotel. Walking distance to the shopping malls, and to Kiyomizudera. The staffs were helpful and speaks good English. Unfortunately, wifi in the bedroom is a bit off. Definitely will recommend this hotel and definitely will come back to stay on my next visit to Kyoto.

Nice hotel”
this is a nice hotel to stay in kyoto. it is in a great location, with the river/canal just behind it, and a few subway stations nearby. the bus outside the hotel goes to kyoto station in 5 min. the reception and staff were really great. they were very polite and nice. the hotel is in a nice, modern building. the rooms and bathrooms are very small, but this is something you will find anywhere in japan, wherever you stay. the only bad thing about the hotel is that it has no wi-fi, and the two pcs in the lobby are old and slow. they should really change their pcs. other than that, i would definitely stay here again.
