Stay at Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku”
I will first discuss the cons I listed in greater detail, and then I will discuss the pros in greater detail. As with most hotels in Japan as I read in my Japanese travel guide, the Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku would have been better with wireless Internet access, because I found myself wanting to take my laptop with me to read in bed. Whenever traveling, I still bring a good amount of reading material, but it is all in PDF format on my computer, so it would have been better to be able to read on my bed on my laptop while at the same time being able to multi task with researching things on the web. While I was traveling for leisure, I can imagine this would be a very good use for clients who are traveling on business. I was essentially emulating both a leisure and a business traveler at the same time, since I did do some work while traveling since I would be taking a major exam within a couple months after my return. The bathroom ceiling was lower than the rest of the room. I have heard that low ceilings are common in Japan, but I was not expecting something like that to show up in a major hotel's bathroom (this problem was only found in the bathroom; it was not found in the rest of the room). A major hotel should always have foreign travelers in mind when designing the interior. While I am only five feet and seven inches tall, anyone just slighly taller than me, which would include nearly all male foreigners and business travelers (statistically, corporate executives are among the tallest people in the world), would have found the experience of showering, washing his face, brushing his teeth, or anything else done in the bathroom, a somewhat painful experience. Those comprise a detailed explanation of the cons of the Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku. I will now discuss the pros in detail. One major attractive factor of the Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is the fact that it was located right next to the Shinjuku stop on the Tokyo Metro subway line. Not only that, b
Sunroute is superlative in all sense”
1. We had a highly memorable stay for our first visit to Japan. I booked this hotel for our first trip to Japan because of its proximity to Shinjuku JR train station. In this regard, this hotel's location exceeded my expectations, as you have Keio Subway train station next to hotel and Odeo subway line about 100 metres away. At JR Shinjuku station, you are linked to everywhere in Japan. In terms of transport accessibility, this is definately 10 out of 10. For service, I would say the front desk is 100% efficient and friendly. Very empowered to give guest a memorable experience. On our check-in, they could not give us the high floor we requested, and gave us a surprise upgrade to 25.8sqm for 15.8sqm which we booked. We were highly grateful for this. The staff will say they speak a little English but actually, more than proficient to carry basic conversation and meet first time travellers needs eg how to use subway, metro rail, shinkansen and direct high speed express train to Narita. They will also direct you to nearby shopping centres and areas of entertainment in Shinjuku, a Tokyo district that never sleeps. Security is never an issue because lifts to room floors are e-card activated, which means even room guests can only access own floors. Outsiders have to wait at the lobby for room guests to bring them up. 3. Although the hotel looks old compared to the shiny metal and glass buildings of Shiodome district, its conceige area is impressive as is its restaurants. Our room was fantastic, very feather soft, comfortable bed with day sofa, 40in LED TV, and huge bathroom. Bathroom amenities are renewed daily so its a luxury to use new combs and tooth brushes as well as ironed courtesy pajamas every day. Moreover, we had our room upgraded to a larger 26sqm room from 16sqm that we booked. We treasured this because our earlier room was just 11sqm. Staff are very polite, always smiling and ready to help. I highly recommend Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku.
We will continue staying here”
We stayed at Sunroute previously in 2009. After so many years, the hotel still provided us with the same level of comfort and convenience. Now, the airport limousine stops at the hotel directly. This is an added bonus. Staff at the front desk were exceptionally polite and helpful. We left our extra luggage at the concierge 2 days before our actual stay as we were going to Mt Fuji area and didn't want to bring too many luggages. Hotel was very accommodating. Staff even helped to reserve our place on the bus for the going to airport trip. There was free use of the computer for us to do online check-in for our flight back. On the day of leaving, I accidentally twisted my ankle. Staff provided me with ice and even provided me with some heat packs for my ankle and wished me a speedy recovery. Although room has always been small, but the hotel still manages to provide us with the basic room amenities, even a long shirt for sleeping! Room is clean and comfortable. The hotel's rooms can only be accessed via tapping the room key card in the lift. This provides guests with added security. Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is extremely conveniently located, a short 10-minute walk to the heart of Shinjuku. A subway station is right next to the hotel. Across the road is a Krispy Creme and Starbucks outlet, and Takashimaya Shopping Centre. The main Shinjuku station, highway bus terminal, Lumine, Odakyu, Keio and a wide myriad of eateries and shopping areas are just a stone's throw away!!! We would definitely make Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku a regular accommodation when we are in Tokyo!
My ideal hotel in Tokyo ”
This was my second visit to Tokyo. My husband and I are really happy as we made the right choice. At first, I was doubted about the stopping point of Airport Limousine Bus. Despite being offered 2-way bus fares at 6,000 yen, they gave us 2-day Tokyo Metro open ticket for unlimited rides at no cost. However, this has to purchase directly at Narita Airport. The stopping point was surprisingly so near to Hotel Sunroute. Just 10 minutes walking distance. We arrived at the hotel at about 10am. (The official check-in time is 2pm)We were totally disappointed, the front-desk staff kept our luggages and sent us to The Lodge on 2/f for free coffee. We rested a while and strolled around Shinjuku street to see the lives. We came back to hotel at 1pm, the staff told us the room was ready to check-in. They were really helpful!! Overall, We love this hotel and will surely come back again. The room is just the right size for us - double-room. It was so equipped, you name it you will find everything in this room. I was totally enjoyed the bathtub. Thank you Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku for giving us a good memory in Tokyo. We are now planning next trip to Japan, hope there is a chain in Hokkaido.
Great Hotel for a Newbie in Tokyo”
Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is in a very good location especially if you're travelling all over Japan as Shinjuku is a major train station for local rail and the Shinkansen bullet trains. Easily accessible from the airport by the Narita Express train or if your flight arrives after 2pm, it's a lot easier to get there by the Airport Limo bus as it stops right at the hotel doorstep. There's a convenenience store (AM/PM) right opposite the hotel. They have lots of ready made foods which they can microwave for you. And believe me, even convenience store foods tastes great in Tokyo! There's also cafes and restaurants beside the hotel. The ramen shop beside is really nice. McDonald's is also just a few doors down and Takashimaya Square is within easy walk. We arrived at 10am, the hotel check in time is 2pm. They do not allow for early check in, but you can leave your luggage there for free and explore surroundings. The bed is very comfy. If you're sharing a bed, it's best to pay a bit more and get the Queen beds rather than the Standard bed. One of our parties stayed in a Single room. The room is just right for a single traveler. You can try and share as the bed is big enough to 'cosily' squeeze in another person, but the bathroom door is see through glass and there's also window that looks right into the bathroom too. There's also drinks vending machine and an ice machine on every floor too. Rooms also have an empty mini fridge. And each room has FREE WI-FI! This hotel is definitely great value for money and great for first timers to Tokyo so they can easily get their bearings.
Decent accommodation and very nice location”
Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is strategically placed at the end of Shinjuku and Yoyogi. It is near the heart of Shinjuku and yet is positionally placed at a quiet street. It is very near the South Exit and South terraces exit of the Shinujuku station, just a block away. This is why I already stayed here twice. Nice spot and near to the shopping malls and restaurants. Also a walking distance to the Shinjuku nightlife, may it be The Golden Gai, izakayas or the infamous Kabukicho. The hotel is somewhat small, well that's a given with Japanese standards, but the facilities are top-notched. The price is affordable as well, especially during peak season. I recommend booking early especially during the cherry blossom season. It runs out fast. Overall, the hotel is pretty decent. It's proximity to shopping malls and restos in Shinjuku and the train and bus stations is what gives this hotel a strategic location. Recommended for first time travelers in Tokyo.
Nice hotel at great location”
Had a nice and comfortable stay at the Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku hotel. Was offered an upgrade for 1000 yen a night. I could then stay in a more luxurious room, didn't take the upgrade as I am traveling alone, but it's a nice gesture. There is free fast Internet access in the room. Keep in mind though that it's "cable connection", so no Wifi. Wifi access is provided in a separate room called "Guest Lounge", only accessible with your room key. The hotel is located near the south exit of Shinjuku station (a 5 minute walk), so plenty of connections available. Keep in mind Shinjuku station is the busiest station in the world, so during rush hour it gets quite busy. I arrived from the airport by "Friendly Airport limousine", the standard bus transfer service. I took the Airport Limousine to Shinjuku station, from the bus stop the hotel is visible. Later it turned out that the Airport Limousine also has a stop right in front of the hotel. At the hotel they are able to arrange tickets for this bus. So when coming from the airport either bus is going to deliver you right next to the hotel. One thing to keep in mind about checking in. Check-in time is 2pm. They will keep your luggage for you when you're arriving early though. But something to keep in mind, because you can't make an early check-in. Enjoyed my stay at Sunroute plaza Shinjuku.
High standard hotel with good location”
lisa - australia - may 2011 hotel sunroute plaza shinjuku is an impressive and large hotel appearing to cater significantly to business travellers but equally accommodating to others. the service desk is available 24 hours; and well organised hotel to airport coach transportation can be arranged. service staff are numerous and exceptionally polite and friendly; and although staff speak limited english, this is not problematic. the decor is beautiful and expensive - chandeliers, leather seats, polished wood and piano in the restaurant. the reception area is massive and adjacent the restaurant where a value for money buffet breakfast (subject to extra charge) is available. the single room had all the facilities required, including a fridge but no mini-bar. access is by electronic key. the bed was almost double width and comfortable. furnishings were very pleasant and everthing was clean and had the feel of being quite new. digital tv had good sized screen. the bathroom had a shower over the bath tub; and make-up of the room meant a full change of linen on the bed as well. a separate computer room with 4 computers provided a comfortable and quiet retreat, although the computer hardware was rather old and keyboards clunky and difficult to use. overall, this is a hotel to recommend; and it's close proximity to shinjuku station is a bonus. shinjuku itself has attractions of interest including large parks.
Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku, Great Hotel in Tokyo”
I stayed at Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku Hotel during May 8th-11th and May15th-18th 2009. The hotel is situated in an extremely convenient location. Shinjuku is a busy area, but the hotel is located near JR southern entrance exit, which is a more quiet and calm area. Shijuku Shopping area (east exit) and Kabukucho are just a few minutes walk. Takashimaya and Tokyu Hand are just across the train tracks. You just need to walk across the walking bridge through the terrace, which takes only 3 minutes. AMPM 24 hours convenient shop is right across the street. Near by the hotel are a nice ramen place, kristpy cream, starbuck, local cafes, yoshinoya, Mc Donald's, First Kitchen and many more restaurants. If you're going to Roppongi, you can just take a Toei Subway located a few steps from the hotel. Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is the best place to stay whether you're a business traveler or a tourist. I'll definitely stay there again next time.
would definitely stay here again!”
Thank you sunroute plaza shinjuku for making our first trip to tokyo as one of the best trip ever! The location sure can't be beaten, it is very near to shinjuku JR (3 mins walking) and the Toei subway (1 min walking). The hotel staff can't be more helpful when we asked them how to buy ghibli ticket in lawson. The room is small but we're not complaining cause it's clean, and comfy. There's also free internet, and fridge. You can also grab bathroom amenities like toothbrush, shower cap, etc. near the receptionist area. We wish soon in the future the limousine bus schedule will become more frequent, but it's still okay because you still can take the one in shinjuku JR west exit (4 mins walking). Or alternatively you can take Narita Express to shinjuku JR. Overall we'd like to go back here again when in Tokyo :)
Amazing”
I travel a lot due to work and usually stay at 5 star hotels. Japan and Shinjuku was not a familiar territory so we didn't know what to expect with Sunroute Plaza. The hotel turned out to be a part of the best experience we had during the exhausting 9 days of walking (as u know in Japan ... you walk everywhere) for sightseeing. Agoda was great at delivering our additional request to the hotel where our room had no signs of any previous smokers (unlike other hotels in Japan that claim to be non smoking but everything stinks of it) and we got the highest floor as requested. However the double bed we reserved was not available so we got an upgrade to one of the corner suite room. It was amazing. Amazingly big (not just comparing to tokyo but to any suite room in any country at this price ... the room was huge). I could not find a spot dirty or untidy. There was a 52" LCD screen with a full blast home theater set, a dvd player, an ipod dock with speakers and even better free instant noodles to replace the popcorn. The green tea (bags) provided were premium grade, the pajamas nicely ironed were really comfortable and clean. The bathroom is also big where i noticed a hidden heater behind the mirror to keep the fog off (Brilliant!) the tub can actually fit 2 medium size people. The shampoo and soap are all premium grade. there's also a cabinet to hide 2 suitcases. The staff speaks good english and are very helpful. The Bus to Narita airport leaves in front of the hotel 5 times a day (7am, 8.05 am, 10.20am, 1pm, 3 pm) incase you miss it, the shinjuku station (both train and bus) is a 2 minute walk and the bus leaves every 30mins-1hour. We used this train station to go everywhere like Harajuku (3 stops around 5-8 mins), Shibuya (8-9 mins), Ginza (15-20mins). As the hotel is in the heart of Shijuku, it is surrounded by shopping arcades and plenty of restaurants from no star to Micheline stars. Starbucks and Crispy cream doughnuts are at the front door (just climb some step
re-visiting tokyo”
An impromptu solo trip to Tokyo after many years. Since it was a solo trip I asked around for recommendations for hotel to stay, out of 5 people 3 of them mentioned Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku. Service was excellent and the hotel staffs were very helpful and friendly. Cozy sized room and most important of all, the location of this hotel is superb. 1 minute to Shinjuku train station (yamanote line) and Takashimaya is directly across the street behind the office buildings. You definitely won't go hungry staying in Sunroute as 24hr food stores could be found around the corner. Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is a YES for my next time without a doubt!
Awesome location and very new and clean”
i really enjoyed my stay in sunroute plaza shinjuku. first of all, the location is just awesome and it is so near to the shinjuku station. secondly, the room is very well equipped with everything you might/might not need. for example i had forgotten to bring my pjs to japan but to my surprise, the hotel provided them. :) the toiletries were also very well-stocked. no worries about bringing a hairdryer with the wrong voltage/plug, the room has a hairdryer/electric kettle too. i know these are pretty basic stuff that a hotel should have but given that the room was pretty small, i was quite surprised that it was so well-equipped. the room size was not an issue as i had enough space for all my mess and i am a really messy person. the hotel has massage service as well but i didnt use them because they were really expensive compared to in south east asia where i am from. nevertheless, a thoughtful gesture given how it is so tiring after a full day of shopping in tokyo.
Sunroute Plaza Hotel / Shinjuku, Japan - June 2009”
I would highly reccommend the SUNROUTE PLAZA HOTEL in Shinjuku/Tokyo. It has a very inviting facade from street view & we were made to feel very welcomed by all the staff we approached (all staff were proficient in speaking English). The rooms themselves are very clean & are cleaned each day at your request (via placing magnetic 'please clean room' sign on our room door. We were very happy to return to the hotel to relax after a busy day sightseeing. Even though it is positioned in central Shinjuku, you cannot hear any street noise from the rooms. It is very competitvely priced in comparison to other hotels in the area. Basically you will get value for your dollar here in every way. The breakfast buffet menu is full of choice ranging from a traditional Japanese breakfast to English to French. I found this to be very considerate to all travellers. We are very happy customers & would choose to stay there again if were returned to Tokyo!
Nice Hotel to Browse Tokyo”
If I have to summarize my experience of staying in Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku in one word, the word would be "nice". Everything is hassle-free and nicely done. From checking in, asking for information, asking for amenities and checking out, everything were nice experiences for me. The location is superb. Very near to Shinjuku's shopping areas, easy access to every part of Tokyo thanks to JR Lines, Tokyo Metro and Keio subway lines, also to JR bus terminal. The room itself is very functional, it provides a lot of amenities from pressing machine, hairdryer, internet access, refrigerator, kettle, etc. Although they may be "normal" amenities for a hotel room, but considering the room size of the room I must say that those amenities were nice surprise. In conclusion, my stay at the room was very nice and pleasant experience. If I am to visit Tokyo again, I would automatically consider of staying at the hotel again.
Shinjuku Sunroute Hotel - Saiko desu!”
The Shinjuku Sunroute Plaza hotel is a great hotel - at an extremely affordable price. It is located a few minutes from Shinjuku station, in a hip and exciting area of Tokyo. The hotel lobby is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are very clean - small, but well within what you would expect for the price. We reserved an economy double and found that it was more than adequate for two people. You would never find a place like this for the same price in NYC. The bathrooms are well stocked with soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels, toothbrushes, brushes, razors, etc. The room was very quiet and included amenities such as a mini-fridge, water heater, nice television and sleeping clothes. The people at the reception desk are all very nice and speak fairly good english. The hotel also holds your luggage for you free of charge for a few hours after check-out, no problem. Overall, this is an excellent hotel for an excellent price. We did not want to leave!
Great location with a nice lobby and good service”
hotel sunroute plaza shinjuku was recommended to me by my friend and i did not regret making this choice. when i entered the hotel, i fall in love immediately with the lobby because it was unexpectedly big and spacious with a lot of sofa and comfortable chairs. as expected for the world-known japan's superb customer service, they attended to us with a smile and answered our every question attentively. also as expected of the hotel rooms in japan, my standard queen room is quite small, with just a tiny passage way to walk but nonetheless, there is still a small tv and a desk with a queen size bed. luckily we choose standard queen room as it is slightly bigger than standard twin room and it is located at a corner room. we were given level 13 which was very contented for us as the hotel only got 14 floors even though it is another building just opposite my room window. the security is good as we need to tap our card on a panel in the lift to get to our desired floor. furthermore, there is an ice machine and 2 vending machines near to the room i stayed in. the bed was cosy and nice. although the toilet is small, it seems enough with a bathtub somemore. they provided all types of amenities which you can think of and even big bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. and also, it is 0.3km from takashimaya times square. overall, i was in no way disappointed with sunroute and my boyfriend and i enjoyed our 4 nights stay in sunroute very much.
Surprise and Delight”
My stay at the Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku was indeed a surprise and delight. The location was fantastic, service was great and rooms were super clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They spoke english- which was a huge plus. Stay here was for 9 days -loved the convenient location, and it served as a great home base for the daily excursions to other areas in Tokyo.... will definitely stay here again the next time I come back to Tokyo. Another great plus about the hotel is the fact that there is free internet access and a AM PM right across the way (perfect for grabbing water and snacks). The hotel definitely exceeded expectations, especially considering that I got a great price- inexpensive, great bang for the buck!
Nice hotel. However do take note of ..............”
i decided to try hotel sunroute plaza since my wife says that this is much nearer to most of the major shopping joints in shinjuku. it is near to lumine, keio (where the 70~90+ retirees hang out!), odakyu (awesome food court!) and takashimaya. i do like the decoration and condition of the hotel lobby in hotel sunroute plaza. the staffs are also much friendlier and speak better english than the other one which i usually stay in. the lady at the reception was kind enough to upgrade us to a bigger room (with tatami mats). we got up the lift and to my horror that room was right at the end of the corridor (xx53). normally i would walk right down to the hotel reception and demand to have my room change to a beside corridor normal room. 3 years ago i had a terrible experience with the last similar type of room which a swanky hotel in penang. a room number of 1644! (translate to cantonese if you want to understand why)coming back to hotel sunroute plaza, since i wasn't alone i figured that it should be fine. the early part of the first night went well, until in the middle of the night, i saw a something which i thought it was my wife playing pranks on me. it was right besides me, i tried to shoo it away with my left hand, and it took a while before it walk away. immediately i lifted up my right hand and try to feel for my wife (lying beside me on the right). she was there! so you guess it, that something which i saw was actually something else! it's not a bad hotel but if you are more of the superstitious kind, then do make sure you don't take those end of corridor room. one more thing which i don’t like about the hotel is that food is quite some distance away (i never like breakfast from hotels, with the exception from ‘h’ hotel also in shinjuku, awesome breakfast + insane price tag!). so if you are hoping to have some nice japanese breakfast (ramen, gyoza etc..) you do have to walk some distance away. that ramen shop next to hotel sunroute plaza opens only at 11a.m!
An amazing steal of a Shinjuku hotel”
Love the hotel with its close proximity to Shinjuku Station, and what makes it even better is how easy it is to find your way to the hotel from the station. Plenty of eating places around the hotel area - there's a McDonald's, Yoshinoya and AM/PM (Japanese equivalent of 7/11 i think). The rooms are on the small side (we stayed in an Economy Double room, non-smoking) but big enough for 2 25inch suitcases and 2 shopping crazy girls. The room's cozy and the amenities provided were more than sufficient. The hotel staff were all very friendly and more than ready to help with our queries and requests. This is the second time I've stayed in Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku, and I'll definitely choose this if I visit Tokyo again. =)
