Well located hotel with charm ad history”
The hotel is well situated at the edge of the town centre, and has a small car park, making checking in and out much easier, as parking can be a problem in this area. Our room was smallish but adequate, and the bed comfortable and clean. This is an old building, complete with creaky floorboards and door keys made of real metal. Compared with modern luxury hotels, the place could do with a facelift, but there is a charm to these places. The public rooms are very pleasant, and fitting for their period
Breakfasts were good, and served at the table; nice and formal, without the daily buffet fight in many hotels these days. There is a small garden room with a bar; very pleasant after the evening walk.
Location is excellent, being next to most of the nicer restaurants in town, and within a 5 minute walk of the harbourfront with its huge array of bars and restaurants.
Ask about the rugby photos behind the bar. The owner has some great connections and memories.
A very pleasant stay. I think we'll be back.
