Nice, clean and confortable hotel friendly staff”

Friendly and attentive staff, quality and cleanliness of rooms, very good breakfast buffet

I traveled to Kathmandu on business and the Yak and Yeti provided for all of my needs. The staff at the business center were very helpful with all of my requests, including locating business contacts when I had trouble due to telephone number changes. The breakfast buffet was very good with a large selection. The fitness center was well equipped and the staff attentive. The front desk staff was helpful in arranging for a car and driver for meetings and ensured pickup of a package I left for a potential customer on departure.

Splendid”

This is my second time staying at the Yak & Yeti. The grounds are beautiful and our stay was trouble free. The services were excellent as well. Hard to believe it is in central Kathmandu with the amount of space around it and how quiet it is from the noisy streets. Great value overall.

Great Place To Stay”

First trip to Nepal, so after the Visa On Arrival, extended time, lack of understanding on my part, get your bags, then locate the Hotel Staff waiting across the street in the dark, we headed to hotel. Not a long journey, however dark and streets not busy. Surprise I got a room upgrade, from Heritage Deluxe to Jr Suite, Thanks!! Room was fabulous, large a well appointed. Only issue, some moldy smell, amplified when you opened the closet, behind toilet side of bathroom.. Ordered room service, burger was very tasty, hot and delivered quickly. Breakfast was good reasonable selection of items. Had dinner 2 nights buffet or from menu provides good choices. Location not too isolated, near King's Way, short walk 8 minutes to Palace, 15 minutes to Thamel. Would have been nice to have ATM, on hotel grounds. Something about arriving late, poor street lighting, looking for money in strange place. Near midnight most staff goes home, and the the lobby area lighting gets reduced.

Old is Not Always Gold”

location, grounds, cleanliness

The hotel experience was satisfactory. The reception room service, and room were alright. This hotel lacks sparkle and upbeat performance. Its an aging institution and it could use an overhaul. There is, for example no comparison with the standards of the Hyatt in Kathmandu. Those two hotels are e n different league and, to be fair, the prices at the Yak and Yeti are much cheaper. I consider the Yak and Yeti to be a four star hotel. The excellence in surroundings service and food is just not there.

Best hotel at the best location of Kathmandu”

Lovely hotel, great staff, very convenient location

In total, we stayed for two nights (11th and 13th December 2012). its a very nice hotel with a historical background. The old wing of the hotel is a royal palace renovated and converted for the guest accommodation. The new wing, which was built later and where we stayed is a modern building. We had a garden view room and it was very nice in terms of comfort and cleanliness. The bathroom with a bathtub was nice and clean although the fittings are a bit old. The place is a calm and peaceful abode in the heart of busy KM. Darbar Marg, The Royal Palace, Thamel, shops and restaurants are all within short walking distance. We found the staffs of the hotel are eager to assist whenever we looked for one. Mr. Amar Raj Sharma working in the front desk specially took us for a tour of the old wing palace when we expressed our interest to know a bit about the palace. We found the gentlemen playing the piano in the evening near the pub area very interesting. He seemed to be very knowledgeable person regarding music and took the initiative to play some of our favorite ones. He didn't miss any one that we requested. Though its a large establishment, the staffs all around made us feel at home. We will definitely return to this place on our next visit to KM.

Big room, great location, excellent service”

Location close to Thamel

This is a 5* hotel and at this price you expect 5* service and quality. And mostly this is what we got, the room was big and mostly worked well, the service was faultless, especially the staff on the Customer Services desk. The location is great, easy walking distance to the shops/bars/restaurants on Durbar Marg and not far to Thamel. Be warned, Nepal is suffering from electricity cuts and the bath/shower water is luke warm at best. Not the hotel's fault I understand, but then a generator would help. Excellent breakfast. But, why does a hotel have to charge US$20/person for an airport transfer when the taxi fare is US$7 for 2 people? And why does a 5* hotel have to charge 1000 Nr for 24 hours of internet access, when there are plenty of free WiFi connections nearby. These charges are a rip off!! Would I stay there again? Probably not, it's fine if you are on business but if it a holiday then Dwarikas is far superior and worth the slightly extra money.

Good hotel but 4* not 5”

Great location, good food, cooperative staff

This hotel is slated as a 5* hotel but is a medium 4* they lack good service and the hotel needs an update to consider itself 5*. The rooms are small but the beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms were very good. Breakfast was very good but they did not offer an egg station. The Indian/Nepali food was very good! It is convenient for walking around Thamel and other areas as well and I think all the cab drivers know where it is! It is a little pricey for what you get but so are most of the other hotels in Nepal!!

Good quality hotel at about affordable prices.”

Nice 5 Star hotel in a good location only 20 minutes walk from Thamel. You wouldn't believe that you are in the centre of the hectic city because it is away from the main road and has big, nicely tended gardens surrounding it. Only one concern for Muslim guests is that the hotel advertises the restaurant as "Halal" which it is incorrect as pork is served at the buffet and was in the Caesers Salad ordered from the menu. The waiter was questioned and his response was that the pork is Halal as it is imported from Europe. Mmmm......Incorrect! Aside from that it's good place to stay, well trained and courteous staff. Good value.

Not a five star hotel”

There is nothing wrong with the Yak & Yeti. Location is good, garden is nice, food is ok, staff is friendly and rooms are spacious and with good views. Just don't expect five star standard. Our room, in particular the bathroom, was relatively worn. Shuttle car was battered. In-house restaurant, The Chimney, is not expensive and service is very good, but food is somewhat on the unexciting side. We found the in-house travel service on the expensive side, and were not warned that the hiking trip we wanted to take from the closest 2000m mountain top was a waste, as the smog/mist/fog hid the Himalayan mountain ridge we thought we would see. Guide was good, though.

Five Star Hotel? Not Convincing Enough!”

Disappoiting service and facility for a 5 star

I have been Yak and Yeti for its outstanding dinner buffet many times during the last several months. The comfortable public space, beautiful and relaxing garden outside, and the great dinner buffet convinced me to try to stay in their room for the first time. However the experience was not good at all.Yak and Yeti's facility is quite disappointing. First of all, in the bathroom, the bath tub is so old that you can feel its bottom kind of collapsing. The tissue paper they provided in bathrrom was not put in any container...and it was not even fully loaded. There were no complimentary teethbrush, toothpaste, and shaving stick. There was hair of previous guest on bed, and the bedding was not very comfortable. And the worse things are: housing keeping people will knock on your door quite often to see if you need house cleaning, it is good that they work hard and try to serve you but the frequency was a bit annoying...The phone in my room was not working so I had to go down to the reception for ordering food. The reception people could order food for me there but they actually just gave me their phone letting me talk with room service people directly. I forgot my pillow in the room when I checked out and when I tried to contact the hotel, they didnt seem very enthusiastic to look for my pillow. I checked out 3 days ago and yet didnt get good response about the lost item. But to talk about the bright side, the garden outside is really beautiful, I like swans and ducks around there. This hotel provides buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday..which is quite unique in Kathmandu. I will come again for food and the garden, but probably not for their room...They really need to remodel rooms and improve service to make itself a more convincing five star hotel.

Peaceful and serene with an old-world charm. Helpful and polite staffs

I already reviewed the hotel and submitted the same to Agoda on my stay at the hotel on 13th December 2012. A lovely hotel with a peaceful environment. Situated in the best location of the city for sightseeing, shopping and nightlife activities. Very Helpful and polite staffs eager to assist you whenever needed. Good room, clean bathroom and a nice garden view from our deluxe room at the new wing. Will definitely return to Y&Y when we visit KM next time.

This is not a five star hotel”

First of all, this is not a five star hotel. Not even a good four star. It is rather an average four star hotel. Good points: Perfect location, good traditional decoration and relative cleanliness. Bad points: Yak and Yeti is an aged hotel with many parts and pieces of furniture falling apart. Yes, the bathroom was brand new, but the carpets in the room were pretty old and stained. The swimming pool was not properly maintained and the sun benches were falling apart. Furthermore, the service is completely unreliable. Few days prior to arrival i asked twice if the Sunrise restaurant was going to be open. They reassured me it was. Nevertheless, when i arrived i found out that it was closed for restorations. To make matters worse, my reservation included a fruit basket. Although i asked four times for it, it never made its way to me. This is bad, very bad service. To conclude, this is an average four star hotel and thus overpriced as a fiver. Wouldn't recommend it.

A great start and finish to our Nepal adventure”

Location, First Base Camp, Food

As the entry point to Nepal this was a great place to start. We had the money and it was a short 9 day trip, so we spent a lot more than you really need to in Nepal, but got good value from it -- located near shops, museums, we walked each night over to Thamel for dinner and back which was fine, the staff were friendly and helpful (it is 5 star so no less than you'd expect of course) and the breakfast buffet and dinner buffets are pretty good if you want a good feast to start or finish your day. We walked everywhere from here to see the city sites. If you need a car / jeep / minibus, I think the travel desk is very expensive though, and so for a day trip or one-way to Pokhara or something, you are better to stroll around Thamel for a much better price. It was a great place for us to start and finish our trip, though arguably a lot more expensive than many people may choose to spend. For us on a short trip, we could justify it.

The hotel is a well run, establishment with a host of professional and attentive staff - nothing is too much trouble and all you have to do is ask - do enquire about an upgrade or book a shangrila club room , which has access to the club room facilities and the personal attention, of I’m sure the hotels, most valued staff . Headed by Bhakta , who took service delivery to the next level - we would highly recommend the upgrade and the chance to experience the hotels complimentary snacks cocktails & a range of drinks from cold remidies to gin & tonics , together with the warm welcome of Bhakta

the hotel is close to town however the yak and yetti needs to be refurbished. our accomodations were on the business floor which cost more then std. however the room was worn the business lounge was too and the business office had a terrible smell. the breakfast buffet was average but the view of the grounds was very nice and the grounds are the best feature of the hotel. i walked through the casino during the day and saw that this too was neglected and overdue for renovation. the electricity does go on and off, but the generators do go on. the yak and yeti has a long history and the architecture and remnants are still there. certainly not a 5 but perhaps a 4
