Another complaint is the loud music from a discotheque nearby so it could be annoying to light sleepers. Food-There was a huge selection at breakfast, we particularly like the freshly made fruit juice, but the local food is not up to standard, especially the roti canai which was hard and dry. We would suggest that they cook the roti canai upon guest's request instead of cooking them in advance. Service-There was a huge difference in the service standard during breakfast when we were seated alfresco on Day 1 and indoors on Day 2. On Day 1, our plates were never cleared and we had to repeatedly ask the waitress to come over to clear them. It was an eyesore to eat with all the empty plates in front of us. They even forgot to bring our coffee and we had to re-order a second time. The service was certainly lacking and not up to expectations of a 5 star hotel. On Day 2, it was totally the opposite, with the waiter constantly clearing our plates and asking if we needed refill of our coffee. Then, we were given a survey form to fill up and of course we gave the waiter a pretty good review. We were wondering if service was particularly good because of the hidden agenda of that waiter (go figure!). Overall, we find the stay enjoyable and the location is excellent. Being one of the best hotels in Penang, the service could have been better.

When out walking, wealways knew how to get back to our lodgings by spotting the Komtar tower. Our room was immaculate and beautifully appointed. We found it central and within walking distance of everything in Georgetown. A great location for exploring the areas that are not on the tourist guides and a minute away from the best roti's at the intersection of Jalan Magazin and Jalan Dato Keramat. Breakfast at the hotel was brilliant with a huge assortment of food available from all different nationalities. The staff were friendly and helpful.

My room is situated at the corner facing behind, yet the noise from the road is audible. I did prepare ear plugs but that didn't save me from the dogs barking at 2am for half an hour. Apparently the resident (house) behind kept a dog outside the garden at night. Thankfully it didn't bark the second night. If you are someone who is sensitive to noise, best stay in a hotel instead. The only reason I stay here because I am attending an event nearby.

After hearing previously that we missed having roti canai, the restaurant manageress initiated with the chef and surprised us with specially prepared off-the-menu, two sets of roti canai for each of us! We even had Chef's present at our table upon service. We were your average hotel guests but we felt exceptionally privillaged.

Wouldn't mind staying there again.

We are trying to look for a clean and comfortable room with good price while walking around Penang. Once we found Armenian, we thought that the prices will be really expensive. But once we get to know them, we realise that the price is quite affordable while the environment and services are really heart touching. Before we do the booking, the bring us to 3 rooms to have a look. They never hesitate to reply our doubts and questions. We feel like home coming as they treat us like an honourable guest although we have only done a booking for one night. Two thumbs up for Armenian and definitely 5 stars rate for overall services. The best out of the best.

If your focus is on cement construction and internal appointments, this one has it all. It is a very good city hotel with all the facilities you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Some hotels of this standard rate themselves as 5 star. The hotel is a short walk from the ferry from Butterworth, but having done that with luggage, we recommend getting a taxi from Butterworth train station to the hotel if you are coming that way. The walk is most unpleasant with luggage. On our return trip to Butterworth, the hotel arranged a taxi for us, and it was worth it. The hotel is located close to the heritage area, and it is easy to get around with buses or walking. Little India is close by. A variety of restaurants are not too distant, and there are plenty of street food options close by if you are game. We found it easy to get around the island with buses - they are modern, airconditioned and cheap. All our encounters with staff at this hotel were pleasant. The included breakfasts were first class. Our room was clean, big enough, comfortable and serviced daily. Some rooms may have ocean views across to Butterworth - ours didn't - but the haze was so bad while we were there that we would have been disappointed had we paid for views. Laundry services outside the hotel were hard to find and distant. The hotel laundry prices were not prohibitive. We enjoyed our first visit to Penang and had no regrets about choosing this hotel as our base.

One thing that make my wife very happy is the cleanliness of the hotel and the rooms. We got to know that this hotel was only opened 3 months ago and is still in the "soft launch" stage. Hopefully, they are able to maintain the cleanliness which is the most important criteria. Location wise, they are located opposite the Komtar and is very convenient. Hawkers are located within 2mins walk from the hotel and they serve very famous local fares. They are also within walking distance to the famous cendol stall. They also own a very nicely decorated cafe besides the hotel where they serve you welcome drinks. One can sit down and enjoy a nice cup of coffee and snap pictures which can turn our to be very beautiful. Checking out was a hassle-free task with the two friendly and efficient ladies during the day shift. The only setback is the limited parking place inside the hotel. Also, wifi is a bit weak. Nevertheless, we have no complaints about this hotel and in fact, we strongly recommend to our son who is planing to come up for holiday next month. We were not expecting much from reception anyway, just wanted our keys to get to the room. Check-out was pleasant and fast too. When I extended the other night, that was done very quickly and promptly as well. ROOM Room is a nice size. The one we stayed in (240) was in a corner and had a Queen size bed. These corner rooms are nice because when you open your door there is a little area for shoes followed by steps going downwards into your actual room. You will then find your bed, a small TV, a wardrobe and dressing table + side table by the bed, and a electric kettle to boil water. There is sufficient room and space for 2 people to comfortably live in. The bathroom is large for a budget hotel. The only downside was the thin looking towels in various shades of white (some older, some newer) and the shower holder was spoilt although the shower head itself was working. Very minor issues for me personally and my bf did not mind either. Overall we were very pleased as the room is extremely clean, some mosquitoes but only if you open the windows at night. Caught a glimpse of the other rooms on our way in and out during our stay. Some rooms have a large and nice balcony facing the car park and pool. Very pleasant and nice if you want the extra space and fridge. (Our room had no fridge, but we didn't really need one) HOTEL AND SURROUNDINGS It is quite a walk from the reception to our room, but we didn't mind. They do have breakfast which is mostly noodle and rice dishes, but also some eggs and toast so a little bit for everyone. I would definitely stay here again though simply for the location. It was a 2 minute walk from the best food area in Penang, The Red Garden Food Paradise. There is all the different types of food there and we ate there every night, got something new each time, and was never touted of it.

This is our second stay in this hotel. The first stay didn't impress us very much but it is indeed just opposite Loh Guan Lye Hospital, so it is a convenient place to stay for my Mum's medical check up. At our second check in, we met a very friendly staff who is dedicated to his job very much. He is very helpful in providing information. The apartment that we booked is very spacious and clean and it's so much better compare to Family Quad room that we booked at the first visit. The apartment is equipped with big refrigerator and basic kitchen amenities. The hotel also sells 600 ml water bottle at RM 1 only, so it just worked out very well for us since during our 3 days visit it always rain in the afternoon.

Firstly, the location is excellent and is within walking distance to many attractions like Jalan Magazine, Jalan Armenian and best of all, it is very near (less than 10 mins walk) to the best Nasi Kandar stall in Georgetown, Deen Maju! Even when you use Grab or Uber, it will take you less than RM10 to reach Fort Cornwallis (depending on demand). Secondly, we got the family room that can accommodate the 3 of us, and it was spacious. The room looks spanking new and the toilet was clean and comfortable. From our room window, we could also see Komtar, the tallest building in Penang clearly and that was quite a sight to marvel at, especially at night. Thirdly, the breakfast spread was decent but tasted great. It will sure be able to satisfy your morning hunger and keep you energized for the later walk around Georgetown. The menu also changes during the two days we stayed at the hotel. Very simple fare like rice, noodles, sausage, chicken, salad spread, bread and buns, fruits, porridge, cereals and some others. They also have an egg station where you can order any type of egg you desire. Decent, simple but filling. Lastly, the swimming pool on the top floor can be considered small but the view was stunning. Be careful of the rough edges around the pool as it is rather sharp and not fitted properly. The management can perhaps install a drinks and snacks bar on top to make the place livelier. Other small mentions include the mini mart that is located in the hotel lobby, great for buying drinks and snacks. There is also a cafe at the ground floor and we received 1 complimentary drink each. We found that catching the buses added to the trip and our two teenagers learnt a great deal about the culture and local people through mingling with the locals. Buses are also a lot cheaper. Breakfast at the hotel was buffet style and especially helpful if you have two teenage boys to feed. We also experienced Hi Tea at the hotel which was buffet style as well which managed to satisfy two hungry teenagers. During our whole stay there was never a mention of not having enough to eat and in fact, at times, the offer of dessert was turned down… amazing!

The cleanliness is good, I cannot say it's excellent, nice pool but no any pool towel, have to bring room towel, have no choice in breakfast, the hotel management should change the menu in daily basis. Provided salt instead of pepper for fried eggs, lucky i noticed and they changed it to pepper. Its seems the cook is new (foreigner), just smile for everything we ask. Excellent free parking for hotel guest, since it's a old building, parking are a bit narrow, careful when you drive a big cars,nice location, friendly reception, value for money for those who prefer budget stay with family, need for power point and a bit slow wifi.

The Wi-Fi is intermittent at best. I see no repeaters or Wi-Fi extenders in the hallways. Usually I get about 10 minutes from time to time then it disconnects. It seems that it usually disconnects right in the middle of me doing something important. I then go down the road to an internet café to send my important emails. We come to Penang every year (for 10 years now) and stay in hotels from 3 weeks to as much as 3 months. This was the first time at the Merchant Hotel. Even though the room is a five star room and the staff is great, I will never return because of the intermittent Wi-Fi.

Just pity the indian egg lady cooking none stop for the waiting guess (perhaps have two cook instead of one) but yet she wasn't complaint at all. I would say its a good hotel and a 5* worker. Keep it up.

But honestly, GLOW should be rated 4 in terms of service, cleanliness and rooms. Their buffet breakfast was really good for a 3 star hotel. There were pastries, savouries (like rice or noodles) and cereals. Their scrambled eggs are awesome and keeps running out fast, so be sure to get yourself a generous scoop! They also had a pool and a pool bar, which my friend and I frequented for the ambience. Their in-room service was also efficient. When we checked in, there were no towels so we made a call to reception. We went out of our room after that. When we returned, we wanted to put a call to reception to remind them about the towels, but to our pleasant surprise the towels were already there. Impressive! One thing which I feel they could improve was to have 24-hour in-room dining. Yes there are a lot of eateries outside the hotel, and they have a restaurant from 9am to 5pm, but it'll be nice to have the option of munching something at night in the comfort of our room. But that's a small matter. I will definitely come back to GLOW on my next trip to Penang!

When we found out, hair on the pillow and realised all pillows and sheet hasn't been changed. floor still dirty (there was even nails left on the floor). The bed liner were really messy for hotel standard, blanket were out from the linen, bed sheet was untucked under the mattress. They didn't make the bathroom tidy . They left open body wash bottle, and the bathroom left uncleaned. Honestly , we are more satisfied with the previous staff services compared to the current services . So we really hope we will see some improvements in the future because this is not the first time we came here .

She was very tactful and nice person with sweet smile. She put an effort to explain to both of us on the hotel facilities with free snacks, ice cream and coffee + tea at the rooftop. This is my first time having this facilities in a hotel. Not only free snacks but also free house wine & soft drink from 5.30 - 7.30pm if I remember them correctly. On top of that, they do provide free popcorn and movie every night at 8.30pm. Me and my hubby tried on the first night and is awesome together with windy and cooling weather. They do have jacuzzi & gym facilities to be occupied by the hotel guest. We are so surprised with the arrangement from the hotel management for our 1st year wedding anniversary. Even though is just a normal bed decor with swan but it meant a lot for me n my hubby. Thanks to the management or housekeeping department. This hotel is near to prangin mall just 5 minutes walk. It also near to upside down museum, walking distance about 11 minutes to the famous teochew Chendul. U must try them. I had 3 bowls and my hubby had 2 bowls of them which both of us don't really like Chendul at all. Just a small tip: don't queue up when u decided to dine in. Just get urself a seat in the kopitiam and there will be a uncle asking around would u like to hv any Chendul. The service is real fast but too bad, me n my hubby queued for more than 15 minutes. 😓 Beside that, I was amazed with the breakfast served by the hotel. They do hv live station such as char kueh teow, roti canai, roti tissue, omelette & etc. On top of that, they do serve fresh fruit juice but only 1 type. Is more than enough. There were also no less than 3 malls, with a cinema and wide variety of restaurants within 5-10 minutes walking distance. You should definitely opt for breakfast. It is a nice buffet spread, with a variety of choices: both Western and Asian, hot and cold food. The room was cleaned daily, good toiletries were provided as well as water bottles, and the staff was accommodating. They supplied us with adapters, and answered as many of our questions as possible. I would recommend getting a map of Penang before arriving at the hotel--they seemed to be out of it everyday we were there. Hot commodity I suppose? In any event, I would certainly recommend staying here. You could take the bus to Upper Penang for some Western nightlife spots like Soho Freehouse and Slippery Senoritas. I suppose one could possibly walk there within 15-20 minutes, however just be aware with Western spots come Western prices.

The main problem of the hotel is poor sound proof and the soft pillow. I can't sleep well the first night due to the neighbor high volume talking and door sound in the middle of the night, i woke up and saw that was 3am. Two soft pillow is not enough to support my neck, if they have harder pillow is better (this is a small issue, so I didnt bring up this issue to the staff， will bring my own pillow in next visit). the compressor of aircorn outside the window also a bit noisy.. The location was great! there are food stalls along the street (morning), night time also have few restaurant (ban mee, seafood) which we didnt try, but saw quite many ppl eating ban mee. the night stall is just 5 min walks opp Lorong Selamat, but dont know that stalls were off on Wed. so we had our dinner at Koufu Western Food which is beside Lorong Selamat. the lady boss was very friendly and helpful, we enjoy the food there, is cheap and delicious!! The Thai Massage opp Eton Hotel was great! highly recommended !! is not expensive and they all from Thai with skill. I only had my foot massage due to the pain of my neck and shoulder (had the massage the day before at Perangin Mall), when I told the counter girl who can speak fluent Mandarin that I can only choose foot massage due to the pain. We were thrilled with the gesture and have to say that throughout our stay, we found the staff friendly, attentive and responsive There a few of things that the hotel could improve on. First, wifi strength in the hotel needs to be improved on. We were each given passwords for our devices. My friend had brought her Apple TV which failed to load - there was simply no connection. Phone devices were ok but signal strength was not the best. Secondly, there is no door separating the shower/toilet from the dressing room which was quite inconvenient when you are sharing a room or are in need of some privacy. Management should look into this - it wouldn't take much to install a door between the areas. Double glazing would be nice too, to block out the street noise (luckily this area is quieter part of the city) and the adhan/calls to prayer.

Breakfast was exceptional with choices for both western and Asian guests - I actually chose the Asian food as it was so delicious (you couldn't get better in a five star restaurant at dinner) - and there was so much more than just breakfast dishes, where on earth would you get orange bread pudding or crème brulee for breakfast? (I seriously had to resist!). Not only was breakfast fantastic but there was free coffee, tea, cookies and ice-cream available 24 hours a day. The rooftop bar was a great place to relax with a drink (one free every evening) and watch the streets below. Staff were particularly friendly and helpful. The hotel was spotlessly clean, every time we left our room or returned from an outing there would be staff cleaning - morning through to night! The 'free' tour (not exactly free, you pay 20 MYR but get vouchers to this amount to spend at 2 of the places you visit) was fantastic, a great introduction to the city with a tour guide who has so much knowledge. The hotel is in a great location, central to all the city has to offer and on the bus route to further places such as the National Park. The only criticism I cam make is the music played in the corridors - a loop of about 3 instrumental 'elevator music' songs that drove me mad - especially late at night. So - no need to look any further - the perfect hotel is here, and if you think it's expensive think again - the extras you get save you so much money, it's nearly like getting a free room!!

There is even a garden where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and surf the Internet. The best thing about the hotel however is Jesse. He is stellar, always smiling and very quick and attentive to fulfill our requests. His laughs are contagious so be careful when you talk to him! He is engaging and a great conversatiionist with an array of topics. He knows customer service and it is very well appreciated by us. We walked away with heavy backpacks but a light warm feeling about our experience with the hotel and GT because of Jesse. Hope all your dreams come true Jesse! We will miss you!

What I love about this hotel is the care they offer their guests. This boutique hotel have the most amazing staff. I had tummy trouble during my stay and was sick the entire time. Miss Christine helped me with my laundry concerns and told me directions where to eat. Miss Irene helped me buy the medicine for my diarrhea from the pharmacy across the hotel. And Mr. Tony was so so so kind enough as to accompany me in the early hours of the morning just to show me where the 24-hour clinic was located in Little India. I'm deeply touched by the genuine gesture and I would never have expected to receive such excellent customer service from them. I'll be forever grateful for their kindness. I'll definitely book with Armenian Suite Hotel again in a heartbeat!

Basic amenities like TV (with standard but limited Astro channels available), safe box, fridge and adequate of numbers of cloth hangers were available but our major gripe was the missing of hot kettle and cups (there were hot water dispenser and plastic cups available in lobby but the cups were too small to make coffee!). Bedroom is overall clean but the sound proofing is rather bad as the bedroom assigned was literally downstairs close to the streets. Location wise, that's where this hotel shines with 24 hours convenience store just right beside and there are one porridge shop just opposite the hotel which i am highly recommend. Also 24 hours laundromat just within vicinity.
