Typically, when I told my friends that it is at Geylang, they judge. But this (considered new) hotel has the thing if you wanna laze around; it practically has a Smart TV and that in itself is a steal for the money, considering the least. It also has a mini-fridge that's stocked with drinks so you'd don't have to worry about dehydration. The staff is overwhelmingly helpful and friendly, and it feels almost like home with the way they treat you. The hotel's minimalist approach in their interior decor is appealing to me, as well. And the place is right smack near the part of Geylang, where the hustle and bustle of nightlife are at.

I honestly hesitated to proceed the payment when i booked this hotel because of the reviews. Well, its not the best you can find there but its comfortable enough to stay with your family at a cheapest rate. They have big beds, room cleaning is available but you have to tell them. They don't offer bfast but you can borrow a kettle/pitcher if you want to make your coffee. Iron is available to use and laundry facilities too. You just have to ask. 😊 Its very near aljunied station so everything is already accessible. but be careful going out late night and midnight though especially if you're alone, or else you'll see the night life in geylang. lol. goodluck!

Near mrt , just need some walk and across a road to paya Lebar square. Convenient store just next to hotel ,petrol station . Is raining day for my 3 night stay, hotel have umbrella to borrow too.No issue if find breakfast early in the morning like 7am. paya Lebar square 5 minute walk From hotel,Many restaurants already open. Food variety and nice to eat. Food at Cafe 2b next to mrt entrance is cheap and yummy too. Front desk is helpful , room is clean.

Pro/s - location! Located in Geylang where hawkres, cheap foods and other cheap stuff can be found. Close to MRT. 5-7mins walk to Al Junied MRT. Close to the city whether by cab or bus. Very near ShengShiong grocery (u can buy your 'pasalubongs' there!) All my requests were given and granted. 1. Rooms and sheets were clean. 2. Hot and cold shower 3. Daily drinking water provided 4. Non-smoking rooms 5. Clean lobby and hallway 6. Not dusty rooms 7. Beds were big!! We stayed in a suite and it was big enough to accommodate all 4 adults and 2 kids. There's even room for more. 8. Staff were courteous. Pauline and Jenny of reception. And Milo of housekeeping. All were polite and respectful. 9. Daily Housekeeping 10. Toiletries and towels were provided 😊 Cons - couldnt think of any Will I recommend this hotel? DEFINITELY! Will we check in again? WITHOUT A DOUBT! This is a vey comfortable hotel in Geylang area, althought it was abit far from the MRT station. The enviroment was good, silent and comfortable, LCD TV was mount on wall with some local channel. Room space wasn't big but enough for solo traveller. Staff was quite friendly and helpful, serving with smile. Cleaner did their job well too. Overall was satisfied at this rate!

Pros: - Rooms are exactly same as shown in the picture. - Towels changed daily and bottled water provided daily. - 10 mins walk to Kallang MRT Station and walking distance for bus station. - 10 mins walk to Kallang McDonald's & Kallang KFC (I found the food tastier at Kallang Maccas & KFC). Cons : - I did not have any cons for this hotel. First night we got into the hotel, our grab driver bit scared us about "Geylang being Red Light zone" however upon our stay we did not see any of such things around the hotel and not even the street when we walked at night. this hotel is clean and aesthetically pleasing. It is a nice hotel for a budget friendly trip. The staff were friendly and very discreet. The only issue is that the walls are very thin. You can clearly hear your neighbors across the room and adjacent to yours. Not for children but good for couples and solo travelers. Overall, it is a nice, cheap, and convenient hotel in the Geylang district.

Fragrance crystal is clearly a budget hotel. But for about 50USD per night its a great value for the money. Its rather new built, staff is friendly, its calm and comfortable if you want to sleep. Located in geylang, one of the redlight districts. You will see prostitutes on the street at night. But on the other side you can get nearly everything from food to haircuts to groceries in the middle of the night. After checkout at 1200 i could deposit my backpack. And after i got back to pick it up around 2100, i could use the shower/toilet room right next door. This was a big plus.

I have stayed in several hotels in Geylang - the only affordable area for me in Singapore,(which has just been classed as 'the most expensive city in the world' by The Economist for the 2nd year in a row), and this was by far the best. Yes Geylang is the of Singapore, however, this is Singapore so it is still an area that is well maintained and has great infrastructure and is easily accessible by using the MRT - Aljuned being the nearest station.The hotel is also in one of the nicer more residential streets and I didn't see any hanging around the corners.The receptionists were efficient and friendly. The room was of the modern minimalist functionalist variety, which I like. The beds are clean and comfortable, the free WiFi was fast, the shower was hot and the pressure strong, the toilet/shower-room is modern and functional. There is an in-room safe and tea and coffee making facilities, the flat screen TV was also good although not much choice of channels. Finally, the rooms have great sealed - I think double glazed windows - so nice and quiet, no noise from outside. Highly recommended. I'll be staying here again.

Location is good, clean, and safe. There is a cheap Indian restaurant on the corner that serves excellent food (get the mutton briyani and prata with teh ice). 7-Eleven is nearby. Walk to Aljunied MRT takes 7-15 minutes depending on your foot speed. Hotel lobby is sparse, just a bench, front desk, and luggage storage. Room is small (as most budget SG hotels are), but it is very clean and has a window! Bathroom is tiny but clean. Expect to get the whole bathroom floor, toilet, and sink wet after you take a shower since there is no divider. But leave the exhaust fan on overnight, and it will dry quickly. TV has limited channels, no bidet in the bathroom, space for luggage is limited, door is thin so you can hear people passing by in the hallway. Otherwise, it is an excellent hotel in Geylang given its location, cleanliness, and window! (Don't be put off by Geylang being the red light district. SG's red light district is not at all like other countries'. It is safe and clean.)

The hotel is actually on a Geylang road. So basically it's opened on mainly road. Unfortunately if you bring luggage with you, it's quite burdensome since you have to drag your luggage around 500m along the main road. The nearest station is Alijunied,closer than Keylang station. For Muslim who seek Halal food, it's so easy because Geylang has so many choices. The staff is so humble and helpful. WiFi is fast, along with big room and also TV. The hotel is also clean and plus I can early check in H-3 hours without being charged. Definitely will come back again

I spent 10 days at Hotel 34 and was pleased. It's among the best budget hotels in Geylang. The front desk and housekeeping staff were consistently helpful, friendly and professional. 5 minutes of walking will get you to wonderful Chinese and Indian eateries or to a small Fair Price market to buy food and beverage supplies. The Alljunied MRT is less than a 10 minute walk. Taxis and buses are plentiful. Next to the Alljunied MRT station is a fantastic Western restaurant called The Ranch. I stayed in a room on the 7th floor. The elevator/lift was consistently dependable. The room itself provided adequate space and was cleaned daily. There is a large window with a nice view. I requested a non-smoking room and there was no hint of smoke when I arrived on day one. The small fridge worked well. There is a dedicated hot water heater for the room that is activated by a switch on the wall just outside the entrance to the bathroom. The shower is positioned in a sitting half-tub that requires you to take a fairly high step to get in and out of. I used the tub to do daily hand washing of my laundry. The free Wi-Fi was outstanding. I was able to make Skype video calls and watch HD movies without issue. I have been staying in 4 and 5-star hotels in Singapore for the past 10 years. I have frequently come to Geylang for a dinner but have never stayed in the area. My mistake. It's authentic and affordable. You won't find the glitz, glamour and shopping of the Orchard area but you'll meet warm, friendly people of diverse ethnic backgrounds and eat delicious food. The prostitution/red light district that Geylang is commonly labeled by should not distract you. It is very well controlled and will not encroach upon your stay unless you actively seek it. For those who want an affordable, comfortable, well-managed, budget hotel, I have no reservations in recommending Hotel 34.

Location of this hotel is right in the middle of the red light district but it's okay since there are lots of eating places around and it's quite safe to walk around. Actually quite fun to observe the hustle and bustle of Geylang. Hotel room seems to have been recently refurbished and it all looks clean and wonderful. The size of the bedroom is quite large compared to other hotels in this area. The reception staff were extremely helpful and efficient. I would go back to this hotel again if I was to stay in Geylang again. Especially appreciate the free wifi in the bedroom which works beautifully.

good location on geylang were in transpo is very accessible like bus and mrt..although it is on the city center but u can rest well because of the neighborhood...not too far from hawkers area were u can eat local foods fit for ur budget...staff are really nice..they are willing to assist and will give u tips and instructions in going around SG...rooms were cleaned everyday..they replaces towels and refill toiletries daily...

We had a nice stay in the New Happy Hotel. The reasons why we picked the hotel are the free wi-fi and the smoking room. I haven't tried the speed of the wi-fi because I purchased a StarHub prepaid internet card at the airport, but the smoking part is welcome since sometimes it is difficult to spot a designated smoking area. After eating at the cheap restaurants nearby, we just go back to the room, open the windows and smoke. With the use of my google maps android app and the Singapore Tourist Pass unlimited bus and MRT rides, navigating Singapore was relatively easy from the hotel's location. Even though Geylang is supposed to be the red light district, the location does not look seedy. The area looks peaceful in fact. The room is what you can expect from a budget hotel. We also received a friendly and helpful reception.

located just 50m from geylang, singapore; ideal for those who like another experience of nightlife in singapore. best time is from 9.00pm onward till early morning. stroll along the geylang road and you will see the leisurely life style of some singaporean on this part of the city which is 180 degree different from the hectic life of most singaporean who live in the city centre. there is plenty of good food around; from the chinese simple meal of a " fried kweetow" to the more expensive dishes a la cart " sea food & lobster". good to spend a day or so at this part of singapore city. highly recommended to stay at hotel 81 - geylang.

I called the hotel a day before our arrival in Singapore. The person at the other end of the line confirmed our reservation and was very willing to answer questions regarding transportation options, directions, and tours. It only took around 15 minutes for us to reach the hotel from the airport. The hotel looks like a converted and refurbished condo/apartment, which is okay. It actually is one of the better looking budget hotels in Geylang. PROS: The room and its washroom were compact yet tidy. The linens were also clean. Lighting and air conditioning were adequate. There is a 24-hour mini grocery store in front of the hotel and it is very near shops/restaurants which sell reasonably priced wares/food. Geylang is a red light district yet we never felt any threat of criminal activity even while walking in the area around midnight coming from our tours. The rooms were cleaned everday and our towels were replaced promptly upon request. CONS: It would take one around 15 minutes to walk from the hotel to the nearest SMRT Station (Kallang). This is manageable, but we found it challenging to walk this far coming from and going back the hotel when it's raining, and it was raining all throughout our stay in Singapore. OVERALL: This is a very good option for the budget traveler.

Compared to 2 other budget hotels rated 2 stars I stayed in Geylang area last Sept & Nov 2009, 81 Palace is better although it is rated 1 star. Room & bathroom is cleaner and also designed better. Better room paint color and floor tile also creates better ambiance. As other budget hotel, the room is small. But better furniture placement in 81 Palace hotel room creates ‘bigger’ space for guest. What I love the most is free & fast internet connection. Simply bring a laptop and ask the IP address to front desk to get connection. Very good access to public transportation, i.e. only 3 minutes walk to bus stop serving route to Orchard (bus #7), 8 minutes walk to Aljuined MRT station (EW 9) where I can get easy access from/to Changi airport and all other connected places. As in Geylang, we’ll find reasonably cheap and good (Asian) taste food everywhere near the hotel, cost ranging S$ 2.5 – 5. Although I haven’t tried all hotel in Geylang, I can say that 81 Palace is one of good budget hotel choice.

My impression is that Singapore is a tough place to get a low priced hotel room in that isn't a complete pit or a backpacker hovel. So, a number of these hotels in Geylang actually work pretty well if your budget is closer to USD 50 than USD 150. I suspect that the dual use feature of Geylang hotels (presumably, a lot of the rooms are rented by the hour) is what keeps the prices low. Geylang itself, apart from the rather 'robust' nightlife has a. fantastic, inexpensive open air restaurants, b. pretty good electronics shopping, c. great access to the MRT, d. is ground zero for buying some of the best Durian in the world.

the hotel is such a great place to stay. it is easy to find because of its large name on the front of the hotel bldg and close to the aljunied mtr station. there are lots of shops and places to eat plus convenience storea near the hotel. the wifi is fast and stable. the aircon is very cool and hot water is available 24/7. there is an electric kettle plus ceramic cups to use and free coffee sachets for 2 on the first day of stay. the room is clean and the toilet with bath is spacious too. the elevator even talks. lol

i stayed in deluxe room for 5 days. for those who doesn't expect too much unnecessary luxury things(swimming pool, gym, etc) for their stay, it is good one to select.. you will have all basic amenities in the room.. they provide complimentary 2 water bottles, shampoo, soap, tooth brush, etc everyday in your room. provided with a cubboard and a locker key to keep things safely.. hotel staffs are helpful.. one thing to remind is that it is not the decent place for family stay.. its because of the place (geylang) and may not be due to hotel.. of course, in front of the hotel there are many callgirls calling for short-term customers. all geylang hotels offers hourly stay to support them. you or your family may be uncomfortable because of these activities.. but since it is singapore, all depends on you.. if you are not interested, just straight away tell them "no...not interested" and you won't be disturbed at all.. this hotel offers monthly, weekly stay discounts as well.. overall, i like the stay in hotel101 for the reasonable price in singapore.

We are a well travelled couple and our expections for a good hotel are cleanliess, friendly staff and reasonable location, then the rest shall come along nicely! And Golden Star Hotel is one such example. To be critical, only the size of the room and surrounding are worthy of making an arrogant fuss about. The queen bed is overwhelming when first entering the room and take some planning to get belongings placed efficiently but soon used to limited luggage space. Location is at the boder of night district so can appear disorderly late at night but this is Singapore no one will actively hassle you unlike many 'sides streets' in other major cities Just book this!

I have stayed in Geylang many times in a variety of the hotels. They are all pretty much in the same condition ... they all need a paint inside and could do with new furnishings and bedding, shower curtains etc. ... but cleanliness and good WiFi is very important to me so on that basis I would say that the Darlene is the best I have stayed at. Furthermore the hotel reception staff were very helpful and friendly and even remembered my name every time I came back in

We had a great stay at Hotel Fuji. It is just a few minutes walk from the MRT or around 15SGD taxi from airport. I'm not sure where the previous negative reviews are coming but the hotel is clean. Also they say Geylang is a red light district but to us it seemed like a regular neighborhood. The lady receptionist who checked us in when we arrived was really nice and also the other lady who checked us out. Overall couldn't rave enough about our stay at Singapore.
