"My first time staying in a daiwa roynet hotel. It's slightly more expensive than other Japanese business hotel chain but I book it for the bathroom photos I saw, and it didn't disappoint! It's a real bathroom with separate shower and bathtub, not those plastic compact ensuite bathroom you normally find in low price hotel chains! If all daiwa chain hotel is like this, I can't wait to be a loyal member from now on! The location is great, right next to the tram station with easy connection to the dogo Onsen, next to main shopping street and express bus stop; a few minutes walk to the matsuyama castle entrance. Everything is convenient. Dogo Onsen is a must try experience if you enjoy Japanese hot bath in general, but I actually enjoyed the bathtub at my hotel room more! That's how much I like the bathroom!"

Essential Matsuyama Travel Tips

Traveling to the Matsuyama Station Area can be an exciting experience, especially with a few handy tips in your back pocket. First and foremost, having a basic understanding of the Japanese language can go a long way. While many in the service industry speak some English, learning a few simple phrases such as *arigatou gozaimasu* (thank you) or *sumimasen* (excuse me) can enhance interactions with locals and show appreciation for their culture. Language apps can also be a great resource for translating signs and menus, making your exploration smoother.

Currency is another aspect to consider before arriving. Japan uses the yen (¥), and while credit cards are increasingly accepted, it's wise to carry cash for smaller shops and local eateries. ATMs that accept international cards are available in convenience stores like 7-Eleven, making it easy to withdraw cash as needed. Tipping is not customary in Japan, so simply expressing gratitude verbally is appreciated. When dining, it’s common to pay at the register rather than at the table, so keep that in mind to avoid confusion.

Etiquette plays a significant role in Japanese culture, and being aware of local customs can enhance your visit. For instance, when entering someone's home or certain traditional establishments, removing your shoes is expected. In public transport, it’s considered polite to keep conversations quiet and to refrain from using your phone. Additionally, when using public baths or onsens, ensure you follow the proper washing and bathing etiquette to respect local traditions. Understanding these cultural nuances not only enriches your travel experience but also fosters a deeper connection with the local community.
