We booked the george town suite. It was very spacious especially the bathroom. Everything was with a colonial touch. Very good way to start your holliday in Penang as it is famous for its colonial heritage. If you stay at this hotel you really get the full experience. The service of the hotel is excellent. Rooms are cleaned twice a day. Fresh fruit is brought to your room every afternoon. There is a butler service availble 24/7. So whenever you need something just push the button. Staff speaks english very well. Always very polite and friendly. Our rate included breakfast, which was a joy every morning. There was so much choice in food. pancakes and waffles are freshly made according to your choice. Staying at the eastern oriental was a real value added to my vacation in Penang. It made the experience complete!

There was a bathrobe and bedroom slippers to ensure maximum comfort and the bath items consists of the usual + a body Lotion (ok, commom) and get this - A Hair Band for ladies to tie up their hair! Isn't it considerate? :) Most importantly, we get to enjoy daily shuttle bus to Golden Sands Resort and we get to enjoy all the beach facilities without paying the exorbitant rates of a beach resorts. Location wise, it is centrally located within 5 minutes walk to Komptar Shopping centre and is very convenient because we get to walk across the roads to reach a series of local shophouses which include pharmancies and coffeeshops which is great in times of medical emergencies. We also ultilised their swimming pool. The deck chairs were knitted out in cushions for maximum suntan comfort and we also get to enjoy their steam room and suana. However I think their steamroom thermostat was faulty. The weak steam was cold and mainly only the water mist was on, the heater simply couldn't heat up. Carpark has limited space but all areas on the ground level were within line of sight by the carpark guard. Very reassuring for drivers like us who are driving our own car to Penang. We did not go for hotel breakfast but I did take a peep and the breakfast fare were quite comprehensive. On the whole it was a wonderful experience and we have gazetted this as our official hotel for Penang for further visits :)

I love everything about it - its central location, the wonderful staff, the hardware (nice rooms), the non-smoking policy, the local food and taxi stand right outside the hotel, the free CAT bus you can catch at Komtar... Sunway Hotel has a non-smoking policy, though in reality there is 1 floor that allows smoking. The management could take the stand of disallowing smoking totally and make Sunway one of the very few hotels in Penang that does not allow indoor smoking. If guests are found to smoke in their rooms, the management should take strict action and insist that the guests abide by the non-smoking policy (or checkout), and verify that the misconduct is not repeated. Sunway has very nice hardware; the rooms are renovated and look new and pleasant. Coupled with a non-smoking policy and enforcement, it should appeal to contemporary travellers. The staff was very friendly, helpful and customer-oriented. I did not find any hotel employee who was lacking in service. For the other reviewers who rated them negatively, I think you need to remember that it takes two hands to clap; if you smile and ask them nicely, they will reciprocate in like manner. I thought their service was excellent. Extra info on the taxi fares - RM45 from the airport if you purchase a coupon from the airport limo counter outside the airport terminal; RM40 to the airport if you just take a taxi outside the hotel. I am a contented customer and will definitely stay at Sunway Hotel again for my next visit to Penang.

The hotel staff helped us by giving us Agoda.com customer service to rectify our room reservations date to change for 1 night stay instead of 2 nights. Got a mail from Agoda.com that they refund me the balance of RM329.00 after minus our our room stay for 1 night and it will take at least 30 days to get back my balance of money refund. The online booking is rather confusing otherwise we enjoyed our stay very much at Cititel Express Penang. Will definitely be back next time on holiday in Penang

Oh yes the Dragon, constructed using recycled mineral water plastic bottle is still being displayed in the Lobby. Great for photos!

But once we get to know them, we realise that the price is quite affordable while the environment and services are really heart touching. Before we do the booking, the bring us to 3 rooms to have a look. They never hesitate to reply our doubts and questions. We feel like home coming as they treat us like an honourable guest although we have only done a booking for one night. Two thumbs up for Armenian and definitely 5 stars rate for overall services. The best out of the best.

This was my second visit to Kimberley Hotel and I would really recommend it to anyone travelling to Penang. The location is just perfect and central to almost all the attractions and awesome food. They have a range of room sizes but all are very clean and comfortable. The best thing about this hotel is the wonderful staff. At first i was a bit hesitant to booked in this hotel. By the name itself 1926 Heritage Hotel, it crossed my mine antique houses, of course! when its old it has something different. However it was a bit too late for me to looked for any other hotel online. (i.e. i booked the hotel less than a week before my flight to Penang from Johore. and because it was a late night ...At first i was a bit hesitant to booked in this hotel. By the name itself 1926 Heritage Hotel, it crossed my mine antique houses, of course! when its old it has something different. However it was a bit too late for me to looked for any other hotel online. (i.e. i booked the hotel less than a week before my flight to Penang from Johore. and because it was a late night flight. i decided to booked rather than look for a hotel by the time we got there ).But contrary to all my weird imagination.. the hotel's atmosphere is completely different. Once inside, i felt like im just a foot away from home. From accommodating staff to the room itself.. very nostalgic.. I also got the experience of being able to feel how governor used to live.Wow!!!truly high-class.. In the morning we had complimentary breakfast buffet style. Food is good. The location of the hotel is not so far away from Komtar (main bus station).. If your business is to mainly to (jalan-jalan)scout around, do sight seeing it is best to walk. Find and appreciate all other heritage buildings which are not even included in the brochure's map..once you do all the sight seeing, it is not so hard to find your way back to your hotel since buses passes in its main road.

Garden food court is a few steps away (where the famous kimpo duck rice is located ).. maybe the building is a little bit old (the others have the newer and better appearance than this one.. but of course they are more costly).. almost every grab or uber driver know where it is.. this hotel is near to all of point interests in penang (3-6rm by uber). i book family room for 4persons..with breakfast..the food is almost the same for 3days.. but looking at the price it is good lahh.. very reasonable.. and the staff is very helpful.. they changed the bed sheet and towel everyday..so happy to stay in this hotel for 3nights

We stayed in Hotel Neo Plus Penang for the first 2 nights and were very reluctant to change to the next hotel. True enough, Neo Plus was way better than our second hotel in many areas like location, room size, and cleanliness, breakfast spread and facilities. Firstly, the ...We were staying in Penang for 4 nights and booked 2 different hotels as there were some issues. We stayed in Hotel Neo Plus Penang for the first 2 nights and were very reluctant to change to the next hotel. True enough, Neo Plus was way better than our second hotel in many areas like location, room size, and cleanliness, breakfast spread and facilities. Firstly, the location is excellent and is within walking distance to many attractions like Jalan Magazine, Jalan Armenian and best of all, it is very near (less than 10 mins walk) to the best Nasi Kandar stall in Georgetown, Deen Maju! Even when you use Grab or Uber, it will take you less than RM10 to reach Fort Cornwallis (depending on demand). Secondly, we got the family room that can accommodate the 3 of us, and it was spacious. The room looks spanking new and the toilet was clean and comfortable. From our room window, we could also see Komtar, the tallest building in Penang clearly and that was quite a sight to marvel at, especially at night. Thirdly, the breakfast spread was decent but tasted great. It will sure be able to satisfy your morning hunger and keep you energized for the later walk around Georgetown. The menu also changes during the two days we stayed at the hotel. Very simple fare like rice, noodles, sausage, chicken, salad spread, bread and buns, fruits, porridge, cereals and some others. They also have an egg station where you can order any type of egg you desire. Decent, simple but filling. Lastly, the swimming pool on the top floor can be considered small but the view was stunning. Be careful of the rough edges around the pool as it is rather sharp and not fitted properly. The management can perhaps install a drinks and snacks bar on top to make the place livelier. Other small mentions include the mini mart that is located in the hotel lobby, great for buying drinks and snacks. There is also a cafe at the ground floor and we received 1 complimentary drink each. The drink wasn't great but

1st time we came to Penang, we stayed here because of the location. It is at the very top of jalan penang and there are so many things around. Bars behind the hotel, places to eat within 2 minutes walk, street market within 3 minutes and at the end of the street market, shopping centers are pretty much accross the road! I mean, you don't want to step out of the hotel 1st thing in the morning to see some locals sleeping on the street, do you? Because that's what you'd get if you stay at the hotels on jalan penang. The band they constantly have performing each night is very good too. Sometimes after a hot day walking around or shopping or whatever you do in penang, you just want to relax and have a drink or two and listen to the band singing your all time favourites and do shout outs when you request a song (or 10!). We came back to penang a year later. And even though we originally wanted to stay in a resort around batu ferringhi, we decided we loved bayview the 1st time and we'd show that appreciation by returning. And were we glad we did. We arrived in the island quite late and was exhausted. We checked in at about 11:30 pm and Izhan (forgot the spelling of the name) asked if this was our first time in penang, so we told him we were there the previous year. After what seemed like 5 seconds, he thanked us for returning to bayview and upgraded us from superior room to premier! That's not even the next level of room up (superior then deluxe then premier then suite). At 11:30 at night after a long flight, I don't ever remember having much energy but I was jumping up and down. So thank you! Overall, aside from location, value, facilities available and all other things they advertise, experience like mine is not something you always get at other hotels. Thumbs up

We checked in to this hotel, everything was fine and up to our expectation. Room ia clean and comfortable, the only thing for me was the pillow iis too soft for me. We visited some places in Penang the next day. We walked a lot in Penang hill and we had a good foot massage in the shop opposite the hotel, it was really nice. We went to Gurney drive and enjoy all sorts of Penang food. We took a flight back to JB on the 3rd day. Graet journey we had and full of momories...

It's a great location for staying on Penang. You may not to worries about foods, drinks and entertainment. There has a convenience store just at the lobby and also, beside the hotel there got a shop selling few type of local product (example: Penang White Coffee and etc.). Fully stocked with all amenities. The in-house breakfast has a good selection, but the eggs, sausage and potatoes are always lukewarm at best. I hate cold foods for breakfast! The Wi-Fi is intermittent at best. I see no repeaters or Wi-Fi extenders in the hallways. Usually I get about 10 minutes from time to time then it disconnects. It seems that it usually disconnects right in the middle of me doing something important. I then go down the road to an internet café to send my important emails. We come to Penang every year (for 10 years now) and stay in hotels from 3 weeks to as much as 3 months. This was the first time at the Merchant Hotel. Even though the room is a five star room and the staff is great, I will never return because of the intermittent Wi-Fi.

However, we had a pleasant stay. The staffs are friendly, the room is clean and even our booking is without breakfast, the hotel only charge us additional RM12 per person for buffet ...We recently went to Penang for medical purpose. But honestly, GLOW should be rated 4 in terms of service, cleanliness and rooms. Their buffet breakfast was really good for a 3 star hotel. There were pastries, savouries (like rice or noodles) and cereals. Their scrambled eggs are awesome and keeps running out fast, so be sure to get yourself a generous scoop! They also had a pool and a pool bar, which my friend and I frequented for the ambience. Their in-room service was also efficient. When we checked in, there were no towels so we made a call to reception. We went out of our room after that. When we returned, we wanted to put a call to reception to remind them about the towels, but to our pleasant surprise the towels were already there. Impressive! One thing which I feel they could improve was to have 24-hour in-room dining. Yes there are a lot of eateries outside the hotel, and they have a restaurant from 9am to 5pm, but it'll be nice to have the option of munching something at night in the comfort of our room. But that's a small matter. I will definitely come back to GLOW on my next trip to Penang!

As i bring along my notebk, it only charges 12Rm for one day, it's acceptable for me. I found it's easy to walk around the hotel. nearby got Dr. sun yat sen Centre.u can discovery...it's the first time i try to stay in Tune Hotel in Penang. i found very comfortable, clean and new room. The breakfast was amazing, with a "proper" hawker frying prawn noodles and char kway teow outside, as well as the kitchen offering roti can...First time we had stayed at this hotel but we were very pleasantly surprised. The rooms included some free soft drinks, the rooftop bar had complimentary tea, coffee and ice cream, and they showed movies up there in the evenings. I would very happily stay there again.

This is my 1st stay at Eton Hotel. Usually, the room sizes of hotels in Penang Island are small, but I was surprised with the room size with the low room rate. Staffs are very friendly and nice. Great location, good shower & nice decoration. But there was bad smell from the toilet when I step in to the room, and very limited car park is another disappointment. Overall,...This is my 1st stay at Eton Hotel. Usually, the room sizes of hotels in Penang Island are small, but I was surprised with the room size with the low room rate. Staffs are very friendly and nice. Great location, good shower & nice decoration. But there was bad smell from the toilet when I step in to the room, and very limited car park is another disappointment. Overall, it is a very good hotel. Definitely will be my first choice on next trip.

Safe & pleasant to walk & find the Landry shop where my ancestors set foot in Penang ie Kuala Kangsar Road. Found the “past neighbourhood still full of energy & activities” like the butcher & sundry shop. This location is most ideal & strategic to complete my purpose. Staff is overly polite to assist & most helpful even to book a Grab to my next stay, Hotel G in Gurney. Love this row of old houses with high ceiling to create a serene & tranquil atmosphere. Nostalgic even because this lobby was the house of my schoolmate in the 1970. The room was more than adequate with delightful ancient touches, especially with the flip open windows and the most surprising ceiling fan. I enjoyed my 3D2N stay in Areca Hotel most wonderfully. Travelling in a group with 4 generations, young boy to an elderly in a wheel chair, we all loved the hotel. Feels just like a top end four star hotel less the swimming pool. Great location - walking distance to Penang road where all the local shops for the cheap sleepwear, t shirts & jerseys, medical oils, five spice powders & tau sar piahs. Not forgetting the famous laska, cendol stand and nasi kandar shop yummy just located 10mins away from the hotel. The night food centre too also 10 mins away. If it was easy access for me with a overactive kid & a wheelchair bound, you all will love the place. Lastly, my 5 year old son discovered a penang rapid bus travelling from the hotel to komtar & batu ferringi (sun shine coast with horse riding) & gurdey drive for RM1.50. Will definately be back with my work buddies!

Great location in Georgetown penang. Hotel has its own unique flavor and most importantly the room and toilet was clean and comfortable. Very friendly and helpful staff, check in and out was fast as well. Read some reviews that you can hear some karaoke going on but I found it to be very tolerable during my time there. To sum it up, I will definitely book this hotel again when I visit penang again.

The whole room and the washroom are equipped with bright light. Clear TV channel too ! And the bed is so comfy & lovely enough for couples . About the location , it is located strategically and super near to tourist spots (wall arts) , restaurants (the famous Nasi Kandar Beratur & Jawi house) , food streets (Chulia Street) , cafés (longest café in Penang-ChinaHouse) and there is a reflexology shop which open until 12am (good service with reasonable price) . All are reachable in walking distance . Nearby also have a bicycles station which you can rent it and hourly charged . **We prefer to use UBER and GRAB in Penang due to the traffic . You can easily call for cab around this Armenian Street .
