I have one complaint. Last year, we stayed at the hotel. I had been asked to visit the Penang Club, of which I am a member, to present my autobiography. While there, in the first ten days in September, 2011, I visited the Bombay Shop, in the Victory Annexe arcade, in the E&O Hotel, and presented the Indian lady there with a signed copy of my book, "Life is what you ...I have one complaint. While there, in the first ten days in September, 2011, I visited the Bombay Shop, in the Victory Annexe arcade, in the E&O Hotel, and presented the Indian lady there with a signed copy of my book, "Life is what you make it", which contains references to the E&O Hotel, with some pictures taken in the ballroom, in the autobiographical section on Penang. She said that she would like 12 or 5 copies to sell and I said that I would make inquiries of the publisher, Melrose Books. I did so, and wrote to the Bombay Shop with my findings, on 12th December, 2011. I received no reply, and, on 17th August, 2012, wrote again, enclosing a copy of the previously letter, and saying that my wife and I would be visiting Penang from 30th August until 7th September, 2012. I offered to bring with me 12 or 5 copies of the book to save on postage. No reply had been received by the time we left and so I packed five copies of the book as we were reaching the baggage weight limits. I had hoped that I would replace them with a copy of your book, "E&O Hotel; The Pearl of Penang". On visiting the Bombay Shop, however, the Bombay Shop Supervisor, Merlene Narcis, told me that she would not buy any of my books, and when we arrived back home, there was an email dated 29 August 2012 waiting for me stating that "I just received your letter and I would like to inform you that we are unable to purchase your books. "We apologise for any inconvenience caused as I do not remember that I have made any agreement with you with regards to the books." Obviously, to prevent excess baggage, I could not purchase "E&O Hotel; The Pearl of Penang". I am annoyed by the non-response to my previous letters, and by the implication that what I stated was untrue. Copies of my letters are available for your perusal.

What a nice weekend we had. We stayed in “Traders Club” rooms and it is well worth paying for the premium. You have your own reception in the 16th floor and they supply food, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), snacks, etc for free. You have nice views from the city. However, I recommend taking breakfast in the lobby where there is more variety. The best of the hot...What a nice weekend we had. We claimed that we were on a honeymoon and they gave us a cake as a gift in our room saying “Happy Honeymoon”. The room is at par with world-wide high-end hotels. The hotel is at a 10min walk distance from Penang Road’s top bars and restaurants. We took the hotel’s free shuttle to its sister’s hotel in the beach and spent the day there. NOTE: Please make sure you book ahead a seat in the shuttle with the concierge. We will definitely stay there again!!!

Bus stop near by which has buses to reach various places of interest, such as Penang hill....and the hop-on-hop-off stop is nearby too. Shopping malls such as Time Square, Komtar and 1st Avenue are within walking distance. Too busy sight seeing and shopping :) no time to try ...First time to Penang. Bus stop near by which has buses to reach various places of interest, such as Penang hill....and the hop-on-hop-off stop is nearby too. Shopping malls such as Time Square, Komtar and 1st Avenue are within walking distance. Too busy sight seeing and shopping :) no time to try out the various hotel facilities such as fitness room and swimming pool. Will still consider Sunway Hotel if I'm to visit Penang again.

Kalau untuk ke mall kita paling habis RM 5 naik grab.

Had also made some comparison between the hotels that are grouped in 1 area - finally decided to settle at The Wembly. It was fuss-free. Arrived at Penang International Airport and Ubered to our hotel. It was less than 5 mins waiting time, and it only cost us RM14. Arrived at Penang International Airport and Ubered to our hotel. It was less than 5 mins waiting time, and it only cost us RM14. Had checked with hotel on the airport transfer rates but was 3 times more. It was near a 30 minutes drive and we arrived at the hotel on the dot of check-in time. Welcomed with Popcorn and Drink but we were not offered for. However it was a nice & unique gesture. We had a quick check-in and up went to our room. Unloaded our stuff, had some rest before we headed off to explore. We started late on the 2nd day and went to the malls nearby - 1st Avenue, Pragin Mall, Komtar Tower. These mall are interconnected by bridges. It is easy to get familiarised too. We returned back to the hotel in the early evening and was surprised - a handmade towel eleplant was placed on our bed, with a hand written note. Being a hotelier, I thought this is a small yet a WOW factor that can leave good impression of the associates working here. Thank you Vasan from the Housekeeping Department. Rested for 2 hours and headed out towards McDonald Times Square. Headed in straight to Times Square and there isnt much things to see. There is a food court / food fare area where it is connected to another Mall - M Mall. M Mall, it has different themes - each level is categorised by different countries. Their settings were really cool and sets vivid memory for tourists. Note 1. Remember to always bring a water bottle with you while on the road 2. in my penang trip i stayed in the hotels on the beach area and on the last night switched to this hotel in george town. made the right decision because after the relaxation in the resort hotel, i can concentrate on exploring george town on foot 24 hours. the location couldn't be more ideal for me 'cause i'm not an early sleeper and the surrounding offers plenty of pubs...in my penang trip i stayed in the hotels on the beach area and on the last night switched to this hotel in george town. made the right decision because after the relaxation in the resort hotel, i can concentrate on exploring george town on foot 24 hours. the location couldn't be more ideal for me 'cause i'm not an early sleeper and the surrounding offers plenty of pubs, food stalls, convenience store (but not messy and sleazy). the hotel is fairly new and one of the few high rise buildings in george town, so you can see the hotel in the distance while wonder around the streets. room has good view of the city, clean and comfortable. i thought about staying in one of those unique antique hotels but figured that modern comfort suites me more and think i made the right choice. my flight is on 15:50 and i was allowed to delay the check out time until 14:00. one of the best value for the money hotel i stayed any where.

Restaurant and convenience store are connected to the reception lobby. While booking a room, you can add a comment saying that Room with a window having a street view not an air duct view. Hotel is 7 story building on Armenian street. View from 7th flr is really great, in day and night. 7th flr terrace remains open from 9AM to 11PM, you can enjoy couple of beer with friends. Was travelling solo, had a beer with Qasim, He is one of the senior and friendly employee of this hotel. Most tourist attractions are on walking distance. Hotel is near to Komtar, nearest transport hub on walking distance, you can catch bus to all routes in Penang & airport bus for every 30 min

Our stay at The Royale Bintang Penang Hotel was a really enjoyable stay. The hotel is very conveniently located to anything and everything you would want to see. The rooms are clean and spacious. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant also provides a very comprehensive and well rounded morning buffet. The hotel is very conveniently located to anything and everything you would want to see. The rooms are clean and spacious. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant also provides a very comprehensive and well rounded morning buffet. The manager who greeted and seated us was especially pleasant and it was a nice welcome. I would also like to say that management is also very pleasant. I wanted to mention this because we ran into a nicely dressed gentlemen who must have been the general manager in the elevator and then outside the restaurant. I am sorry I didn't get his name, but he took time to explain some of the history of his hotel. His warm and friendly manner was greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to have a memorable stay in Penang.

I wanted to stay in this part of Penang near the shopping and eating areas and booked at the Kimberley. I was a bit nervous with this choice after reading so many bad reviews. Upon arrival I was met with a very efficient and quick check in staff. After getting in my room I was pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful and clean room. The air condition worked perfectly and the shower was one of the best if had in asia with plenty of pressure AND no flooding in the room as mentioned in some of the reviews. The TV had enough English speaking and sports channels but the internet was so good I just plugged in my chromcast ant watched my favorite channels. If I want to be picky I could say they didn't serve bacon. I'm surprised someone didn't complain about that. Breakfast had an Asian flair with the noodle dishes, chicken, rice and vegetables. They did have scrambled eggs, baked beans, and chicken ham sausage. Not a proper Full English breakfast but excellent for the room price paid. And let's not forget the excellent security guard who goes above and beyond his job to assist with bags or offer assistance with any questions one may have.

However it was a bit too late for me to looked for any other hotel online. (i.e. i booked the hotel less than a week before my flight to Penang from Johore. and because it was a late night ...At first i was a bit hesitant to booked in this hotel. By the name itself 1926 Heritage Hotel, it crossed my mine antique houses, of course! when its old it has something different. However it was a bit too late for me to looked for any other hotel online. (i.e. i booked the hotel less than a week before my flight to Penang from Johore. and because it was a late night flight. i decided to booked rather than look for a hotel by the time we got there ).But contrary to all my weird imagination.. the hotel's atmosphere is completely different. Once inside, i felt like im just a foot away from home. From accommodating staff to the room itself.. very nostalgic.. I also got the experience of being able to feel how governor used to live.Wow!!!truly high-class.. In the morning we had complimentary breakfast buffet style. Food is good. The location of the hotel is not so far away from Komtar (main bus station).. If your business is to mainly to (jalan-jalan)scout around, do sight seeing it is best to walk. Find and appreciate all other heritage buildings which are not even included in the brochure's map..once you do all the sight seeing, it is not so hard to find your way back to your hotel since buses passes in its main road.

Only con is the stingy supply of toilet roll; one roll per day. ...There were plenty of eateries and shops available around the hotel. We stayed three nights. Breakfast was good and served on the 11th floor; very scenic view of Penang. Hotel provides two bottles of drinking water daily. There's kettle and complimentary two sachets each of 3-in-1 coffee and tea bags. Only con is the stingy supply of toilet roll; one roll per day. Walking distance to Komtar (slow, leisurely walk takes about 20 minutes). There's free shuttle buses (City Area Transit aka CAT) near the hotel to Komtar with 15 minutes interval and a 24-hour Express convenient store within the hotel.

All the staff is friendly especially the chinese security at main door, he is very friendly and kind to great us and help us take a lot of luggages. We booked the 2 bedroom apartment, living room and 2 bedrooms is spacious, quiet, and modern interior design. Living room have fridge and washing bay for me to cook porridge for my young daughter. Last, surprisingly that hotel breakfast is simple and delicious. Everyday different food, enjoy 2 day breakfast at hotel, it have nasi lemak, fried mee, fried rice, sandwich, red bean, potatoes wedges, hot dog, egg, curry chicken, curry fish, coffee machine, salad, bread and others. If we visit Penang again, we will definitely choose One Pacific again!

We stayed in Hotel Neo Plus Penang for the first 2 nights and were very reluctant to change to the next hotel. True enough, Neo Plus was way better than our second hotel in many areas like location, room size, and cleanliness, breakfast spread and facilities. Firstly, the location is excellent and is within walking distance to many attractions like Jalan Magazine, Jalan Armenian and best of all, it is very near (less than 10 mins walk) to the best Nasi Kandar stall in Georgetown, Deen Maju! Even when you use Grab or Uber, it will take you less than RM10 to reach Fort Cornwallis (depending on demand). Secondly, we got the family room that can accommodate the 3 of us, and it was spacious. The room looks spanking new and the toilet was clean and comfortable. From our room window, we could also see Komtar, the tallest building in Penang clearly and that was quite a sight to marvel at, especially at night. Thirdly, the breakfast spread was decent but tasted great. It will sure be able to satisfy your morning hunger and keep you energized for the later walk around Georgetown. The menu also changes during the two days we stayed at the hotel. Very simple fare like rice, noodles, sausage, chicken, salad spread, bread and buns, fruits, porridge, cereals and some others. They also have an egg station where you can order any type of egg you desire. Decent, simple but filling. Lastly, the swimming pool on the top floor can be considered small but the view was stunning. Be careful of the rough edges around the pool as it is rather sharp and not fitted properly. The management can perhaps install a drinks and snacks bar on top to make the place livelier. Other small mentions include the mini mart that is located in the hotel lobby, great for buying drinks and snacks. There is also a cafe at the ground floor and we received 1 complimentary drink each. The drink wasn't great but

1st time we came to Penang, we stayed here because of the location. It is at the very top of jalan penang and there are so many things around. Bars behind the hotel, places to eat within 2 minutes walk, street market within 3 minutes and at the end of the street market, shopping centers are pretty much accross the road! I mean, you don't want to step out of the hotel 1st thing in the morning to see some locals sleeping on the street, do you? Because that's what you'd get if you stay at the hotels on jalan penang. The band they constantly have performing each night is very good too. Sometimes after a hot day walking around or shopping or whatever you do in penang, you just want to relax and have a drink or two and listen to the band singing your all time favourites and do shout outs when you request a song (or 10!). We came back to penang a year later. And even though we originally wanted to stay in a resort around batu ferringhi, we decided we loved bayview the 1st time and we'd show that appreciation by returning. And were we glad we did. We arrived in the island quite late and was exhausted. We checked in at about 11:30 pm and Izhan (forgot the spelling of the name) asked if this was our first time in penang, so we told him we were there the previous year. After what seemed like 5 seconds, he thanked us for returning to bayview and upgraded us from superior room to premier! That's not even the next level of room up (superior then deluxe then premier then suite). At 11:30 at night after a long flight, I don't ever remember having much energy but I was jumping up and down. So thank you! Overall, aside from location, value, facilities available and all other things they advertise, experience like mine is not something you always get at other hotels. Thumbs up

It's a great location for staying on Penang. You may not to worries about foods, drinks and entertainment. There has a convenience store just at the lobby and also, beside the hotel there got a shop selling few type of local product (example: Penang White Coffee and etc.). More, over there still have some food courts just nearby the hotel and around 16 minutes walk or ...It's a great location for staying on Penang. The front desk staff is excellent; the room was a 10+ rating. A perfect room with a good bed, full closet, fridge, safe deposit box, good TV, good size desk and chair with multiple electric plugs. Fully stocked with all amenities. The in-house breakfast has a good selection, but the eggs, sausage and potatoes are always lukewarm at best. I hate cold foods for breakfast! The Wi-Fi is intermittent at best. I see no repeaters or Wi-Fi extenders in the hallways. Usually I get about 10 minutes from time to time then it disconnects. It seems that it usually disconnects right in the middle of me doing something important. I then go down the road to an internet café to send my important emails. We come to Penang every year (for 10 years now) and stay in hotels from 3 weeks to as much as 3 months. This was the first time at the Merchant Hotel. Even though the room is a five star room and the staff is great, I will never return because of the intermittent Wi-Fi.

Booking was a breeze with Agoda, they have connected me with the hotel via email regarding my request for airport transfer. Glow was very responsive. I was quoted MYR45 each way and was assured that the driver will be waiting outside the airport on the day of our arrival with Penang. He said that it was from the hotel. It was a plus point since I was thirsty during that time. When we reached the hotel, the driver said that he can give me discount and only need to pay MYR80 for 2-way airport transfer since he will be the one to also bring us to the airport. So I paid. Also offered if we will be interested for a tour, unfortunately we have already booked a tour with viator. No issues with check in. It was quick and easy. We were surprised how spacious the room is, even the bathroom is spacious. Bed and pillow are comfortable. Room design is pretty modern. Again no issues with the room. Breakfast was ok, spread was limited. The exact spread the following day. Coffee shops in vicinity were still closed at 7am so we were forced back to return to hotel to eat breakfast. Price is MYR26.50 per person. The only thing which ticked my off was when I called the operator (front desk) to ask for bath towels and bottled water. By the way they do not have housekeeping line so the call gets routed to the operator. I understand that it tends to get busy at the front desk but I think the staff should learn how to properly respond to calls like mine when they are unable to attend to my request. The staff said "Let me call you back because I am busy" (with an irritating tone). Few mins later, the recep called again and apologized as she was busy earlier and asked again what was it that I need. Overall I am satisfied with the service and would recommend Glow for you to try.

I am just half way to my stay at this hotel but I was somehow tempted to write a review. Whether by accident or pure instinct, I had booked this hotel without even looking into the one of the most critical aspects of choosing an accommodation. If strategic location is one criterion for choosing a hotel, I will rate it 5/5. When this fulfills your expectation, things like facilities in the hotel would be secondary. After all, this is a no frills hotel with the right necessary basic needs. Anyway, a 24 hour convenience store is just below the hotel. I will definitely patronize this hotel again the next time I visit Penang.

When I arrived on day 1, I was greeted by the friendly staffs and their manager at counter, Rita Lee took the effort to remember my name and addressed me by my name. Throughtout my stay, I was greeted and addressed by my name. Ask yourself which hotel you had went to had greeted by your name throughout your stay even from day 1. Even 5 star hotels do not do that unless you are VIP. Location wise, once you are out of the hotel, round the corner there is a local coffeeshop. Opposite the hotel there cafe and restaurants. 5mins walk to Komtar bus terminal and Pragnin mall. 10mins walk to Penang street art and many museums around that area. Room is fantastic. Nice pillows, soft bed and bathroom comes with the traditional Japanese wooden bucket and stool for bathing. Love it so much. This hotel even provide free 2kg laundry and free happy hour drinks at their rooftop bar. A lot of guests are couples and I can sense the sweet looks on their face. If anyone wants to visit Penang, this is the hotel you should go.

The internet worked fine. The staff are friendly and helpful. Lovely comfortable cafe with superB ice-cream. Must try the special made ice-cream with local flavour which you cannot find else where. I high recommend this hotel to those who love to experience the true Penang heritage.

Standard Queen room is just small but is enough for a couple. The transparent toilet was an adding point of the room. Most of the staffs are cheerful and helpful. The main problem of the hotel is poor sound proof and the soft pillow. I can't sleep well the first night due to the neighbor high volume talking and door sound in the middle of the night, i woke up and saw that was 3am. Two soft pillow is not enough to support my neck, if they have harder pillow is better (this is a small issue, so I didnt bring up this issue to the staff， will bring my own pillow in next visit). the compressor of aircorn outside the window also a bit noisy.. The location was great! there are food stalls along the street (morning), night time also have few restaurant (ban mee, seafood) which we didnt try, but saw quite many ppl eating ban mee. the night stall is just 5 min walks opp Lorong Selamat, but dont know that stalls were off on Wed. so we had our dinner at Koufu Western Food which is beside Lorong Selamat. the lady boss was very friendly and helpful, we enjoy the food there, is cheap and delicious!! The Thai Massage opp Eton Hotel was great! highly recommended !! is not expensive and they all from Thai with skill. I only had my foot massage due to the pain of my neck and shoulder (had the massage the day before at Perangin Mall), when I told the counter girl who can speak fluent Mandarin that I can only choose foot massage due to the pain. She asked her colleague to simply massage my neck and shoulder after my foot massage (without charges). how thoughtful is she.. I really felt relax and the pain has released. We told bus driver to alight us sat Georgetown.First time, we walked 25 mins then located CM. Subsequently, once u familiar with the route, around 10 mins from CM to shopping malls n komtar . Most of the days, we walked to most of the places we interested. U can also take free bus (CAT). Get the map from airport. V useful n pretty easy n accurate. Room : we stayed at room 207. New, spacious, and clean. Complimentary 2 bottled water each day, toothbrush, toothpaste,shampoo,shower wash n handwash. However, no slippers. Breakfast : really impressive given it is a 3 star hotel. Coffee machine, tea, different type of bread n spread. Fruits n many choices of eggs n other dishes. They even have one vegetarian main.my sis I were delighted as we are vegetarians. Love their : free afternoon tea, free evening drink, free daily 1 kg laundry, lemongrass fragrance throughout the hotel, water dispenser for cold, hot n room temp water at each level. Saved a lot of money on water. Great thanks to the staff,who helped to decorate the room for my sis bday. Complimentary piece of cake from bread history. We were touched with their sincerity , creativity and excellent service. The lobby also beautifully decorated with Halloween theme. V creative. All the staff I encountered were friendly, helpful, speak good English and made us feel v welcome.

Great location in Georgetown penang. Hotel has its own unique flavor and most importantly the room and toilet was clean and comfortable. About the location , it is located strategically and super near to tourist spots (wall arts) , restaurants (the famous Nasi Kandar Beratur & Jawi house) , food streets (Chulia Street) , cafés (longest café in Penang-ChinaHouse) and there is a reflexology shop which open until 12am (good service with reasonable price) . All are reachable in walking distance . Nearby also have a bicycles station which you can rent it and hourly charged . **We prefer to use UBER and GRAB in Penang due to the traffic . You can easily call for cab around this Armenian Street .

The location is great--just around the corner is the famous Line Clear Nasi Kandar restaurant, which I went to several times. Also, the Red Garden food court which is open in the evenings was just around the corner in Leith Street. I really liked it here, for the money I think it is great value. In fact I've got to go to Penang again in March and have rebooked the same room.
