"On the Tuktuk peninsula on Samosir Island, within easy walking distance of the ferry docking point. A new, small hotel with friendly, but unobtrusive, owner. A small but varied dinner menu; meals were individually prepared and of good quality. The room was very clean, bed comfortable and breakfast time was flexible to suit individual guests - a choice of American, Continental or Indonesian breakfast menus. Shops and other restaurants/cafes within easy reach. Overall a very pleasant place to spend a few days."

"The venue is located very close to the ferry drop-off. There is not elevator, so you may have to climb 4 storeys to take your breakfast or go to the swimming pool and back, but if you know it, it is ok. The view is nice, the staff is quite dedicated. The breakfast is decent (the waffles are great). The swimming pool is clean and good. The surrounding hotels are a bit noisy at night, so you need to bring earplugs. We went for Chinese New Year, so I guess the prices where a bit up, and quite pricey for Indonesia. But there is not much choice around Tuktuk anyway. You can walk to surrounding restaurants that are nice. The hotel will arrange motorbike rental, etc. I think it is equivalent to 2 stars in Singapore, so you would expect a lower price, but the supply of rooms is limited in Tuktuk. But the lake is so good that you don't go there for the hotel anyway. "

"We had an absolutely wonderful experience. The suites all had lakefront access except some which were on the top of the hill. Some people might want an overview of the lake. The waters at Mas looked cleaner than those of the other cottages. Probably because it is more populated on the TukTuk town side (Mas is further away from the Tuktuk town). There isn't a pool here, because you already are in one. We had a wonderful experience except for that one hotel staff that can get a little irritable if you ask her a few too many questions. She also seemed to like caucasians more than asians.. I don't know, Could just be me. Otherwise 4.5/5!! "

"Samosir Cottages was the best hotel we stayed during our 2 week holidays in North Sumatera. we really had the best experience there. The hotel was modern, clean with good facilities such as 2 nice and clean swimming pools with gorgeous view over lake Toba, big, nice restaurant, nice comfortable terraces to enjoy the beauty of Lake Toba, table tennis. We could also enjoy live music on Wednesday and Saturday evenings in the restaurant. The room was nice, clean with a bath tub, tv, balcony and very comfortable bed and linen of high quality and long desk, many electricity power plugs, and a fan. They did not provide AC since it was cool there. The room was quiet since it was not so close to the lake but we could enjoy the best view of the lake from their nice terraces. We are looking forward to staying at this hotel again in the future. Thank you Samosir Cottages and Agoda who had given us nice rate. "

"We definitely enjoyed our stay at Gokhon Guest House. We got a room on the second floor, with a beautiful lake view. You can also go down for a dip/swim in the lake. Facilities were basic, hot shower available. Wifi available too. They don't have a restaurant at the guest house, but there are other places to eat nearby, so it's not a big deal. They also have bike rentals available, so we rented a motorbike from them for IDR100,000 a day (around USD7-8). The best part about Gokhon is definitely their services. The guest house is run by a local family, and they were super friendly and helpful. They also have a "library" at the guest house, so you can check out some books to pass the time. The only downside to Gokhon is that it's right next to the main road, so it can get pretty noisy with the motorbikes zooming around, especially at night. We were there in August, and there was some construction going on next to Gokhon, so that caused some noise in the daytime too, but we would be out anyway, so that didn't bother us too much. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Gokhon, and would go back again! "
