An exceptional experience ”
This place is something extra, staff is extremely friendly and helpful with exceptional service in every detail. We stayed in a tent that was clean and fresh. Food was excellent with a bbq at night that you shouldn’t miss.
All though the staff were extremely accomodating to any needs we asked and tried to fullfill any questions we had considering the the language barrier they did very well.the pricing of this place was way too high in regards to the amenities.it seems like the staff were on a very tight budget and had to minimize food options but still charge extreme prices.
Hard to find- No Sign at all! WAZE led us to the wrong place too, so had to wait on the side of the road for 45 mins while they sent someone to find us. Breakfast on the safari jeep was poor yet very expensive. The staff were very friendly.
It wasn't as nice as we expected”
Okay so it depends what you're looking for. We were expecting it to be nicer but it does look nicer in the dark. The food was nice, big portions. The tents are ragged and ours came with a couple of rats. We, to be fair were fine with this but if you're expecting luxury this is not for you. Limited facilities, okay for a one nighter.
Friendly Staff and good food”
In the middle of the nature and quiet place.
A must-go camping site. Staff are warm n nice Serving big portion of food and really delicious Having a wonderful camping experience
Amazing experience ”
Our stay at Eco island was our favourite experience in Sri Lanka. Priyashantha and his team made us feel like we were family, the service was on a par with a five star facility and the food was also the best we have had on our visit to Sri Lanka. The location is so close to the park that it only takes a few minutes to enter the gate. We would highly recommend a stay at Eco island and are looking forward to our next visit already.
Having never gone on safari before I'm not quite sure what I expected but this place was amazing. Very rustic and remote but great service and food. The tents are very comfortable the adjoining bathroom is clean, well equipped and quirky. The stars at night were like you were in an outdoor planatarium, has to be seen to be believed.
Great experience, nice staff”
Our best stay in Sri Lanka. This place is different from what you can experience in the city, It's basically a tent camp where you get to sleep in a conformable tent at the border of Yala National Park. The staff was extremely nice and the food was incredibly good! They've organized a barbecue diner and it was really nice under the starry sky. We organized the safari with the hotel and it went well. They even came to pick us and drop us in the closest town when we arrived/departed. If you're in Yala for the National Park and Safari, I would definitely recommend you this hotel.
Worst stay of our trip to Sri Lanka”
We only stayed 1 night left the next morning, we had booked for 4 nights, could not face another night .Electricity only from 6pm till 10pm, we were the only ones there, tent was pushed into a bush, no fan, absolutely hated it. Nothing there, it seems to me they have just put 3 tents in a field no camp fire, had dinner and went to bed, as we had no electric after 10pm, did the safari the next morning and left, the taxi he ordered for us charged us 10,000 rupees which was 3,000 to 4,000 over the normal rate for that journey to Tangalle from Yala only cost us 17,000 from Colombo to Yala. Total rip off all round. Will request a refund.
Due to the location of the tents, there was no airflow. Without AC or fans, this made sleeping very difficult. The staff was good. The location was poor.
Lack of transparency re pricing”
Up until the bill and trying to leave we had a great stay in a idyllic setting. Sadly due to poor English and no information regarding prices of food and drink we were shocked at the bill for two dinners and some beer and wine. There was a distinct impression staff have been told to try and flog as many extras as possible and as you are a captive audience you are easy prey. Most annoying of all was agreeing on a time to leave to catch a bus they kept us waiting so long for the bill then put us in a tuttuk that promptly run out of petrol we missed it. The overpriced food and drink left us feeling ripped off and spoilt our stay considerably which is a shame as up until then it had been truly magical
The tents and food were great, go out of season as the safari was far too busy
nice landscape was great! ”
At 23:30, when my husband wanted a shower, no hot water. Tried to contact the front office, but didn't work. For an accommodation USD 200 per night, this should never happen. Not a pleasant stayed. But the set dinner was valuable, and great. Really enjoyed it!
Our stay at Eco camp at yala”
The stay was comfortable but the ride to the site was bumpy. They should do the road up and make it more accessible for the traveller.
glamping at its best!!”
Perfect, we were upgraded on arrival to the premium tent with a proper bathroom and electricity. Food was delicious, 4 courses every night and all brilliant. Safaris were well priced and definitely worth booking, saw everything we wanted and the guide was great. Very helpful staff with extras like transfers, laundry etc. Definitely recommend!!
Camping with style, easy access to safari”
We booked one luxury tent and one basic tent. The luxury tent had a large spacious bathroom inside the tent with a well working flushing toilet. The basic tent had a shower and toilet outside so more insects. Both tents clean with fresh sheets and towels. Sleeping in the mud hut would have been an experience. They are also building two tree houses. We travelled with two children (14 and 10 years of age). We booked the all inclusive which you need to do if you wish to stay at this camp site as it is isolated from the town or other hotels. The food was average but plenty of it. The staff were attentive and accommodating. The driver who collected us from Tissamaharama and who drove us on safari was fast and gave us a bumpy ride. We didn't mind too much as it was all part of the fun. If your travelling with a driver and hire car there is no driver accommodation. One night enough for us, bring books, cards etc if you like a little entertainment other than the camp fire. Safari excellent saw large variety of animals.
Definitely worth staying for! ”
The hotel was right next to the Yala National Park, they greeted us with drinks and hot towels. Really liked the fire they set up and night and how the tent was really new and well equipped. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking to stay in a campsite at Yala!
We had a great three days at Yala eco camp. The camp is about 20 mins from Yala main gate in its own patch of jungle teaming with bird life – with the occasional monitor lizard languidly strolling by. The staff are incredibly helpful and the home cooking fantastic. Cold towels and fresh juice or coconut await you on return from safari. A fifteen minute walk from the camp and you are by a freshwater lake – great for bird and crocodile watching and a spot of fishing (which the kids loved). The accommodation is rustic – so if you want air conditioned luxury or a boutique safari camp this is not for you. If however you want peace and quiet, no internet distractions, are not freaked out by the jungles other micro inhabitants and want easy access to Yala (where we had some great leopards and elephants sightings) then it has much to offer.
A place to visit nature”
We wanted something wild and different. The staff were great and the place was truly close to nature. A definite must do for all those who like a bit of peace and quite and lot more nature.
