Expensive, but worth the money”
We are students, therefore we do not have loads of money when travelling. However, we splurged on a private bedroom instead of dorm beds and could not have been happier! The twin room was really clean, with clean bedding, complementary tea, a beautiful glass shower and a nice view on the mountain. The breakfast was included in our reservation, which is nice, and even though the buffet-style breakfast is not very warm, it is incredibly welcome. We feel like it was worth spending more money for more privacy, comfort and luxury.

Very good”
Good location for both sunrise and sunset viewing. The buffet for both breakfast and dinner are not fantastic and we did not see any top ups when trays were empty.

Very basic and smelly rooms for a lot of money”
Rooms were extremely basic, smell like Raid and the beds are rock hard. The location is great though and I don't think any of the other hotels on the Lou train are any better. When you consider that everything needs to be carried in by hand, I get it. It takes about 45 min from the cable car to hike to the hotel, so pack light. You can store the bulk of your luggage at the tourist transfer bus station at the base of the mountain. I highly recommend you take advantage of this.

The dorms are actually for 8 people not 6”
Pros: LOCATION: close to 光明顶 or the Bright Summit which is where most people watch the sunrise and the sunset Cons: if you're sharing the room with people who don't clean up after themselves or people who don't pipe down when talking over the phone, then chances are you'll have the most disgusting/annoying time in the dorm.

Amazing location ”
Fabulous experience on top of the mountain. Very warm for a winter stay (overheated?). Beds not soft according to Western standards. Bathroom smelled really bad. Good food in restaurant, very expensive but buffet was a good deal. Thankfully restaurant closed at 8 so everything quietened down by 9pm.

Not as advertised”
The hotel does not provide accommodations as advertised. As a solo traveller, I booked in the dorm for 6. However, they added extra beds in the room and put 8 people in the space. No warning.

Route on Huangshan”
If you're staying at Huangshan Baiyun Hotel and want to cover more of the mountain regions, we recommend this route. When ascending the mountain, - From the Visitors Distribution Centre (south side of mountain), take a bus or taxi to the North Gate. - Take the cable car (太平索道 Taiping Suodao) from the North Gate. - Walk 1.5 hours to the hotel, stopping by Guangming Ding (光明顶). When descending the mountain, - Descend via the south side, either walking down all the way, or halfway followed by cable car.
