Clean, affordable hotel close to Penn Station”
My wife went to NYC to see a broadway show, and were were looking for an inexpensive (relatively) hotel. We wanted to be close to both the theater and Penn station so we wouldn't have to worry about taxis or the subway. The Quality Inn met all our criteria, and we had an excellent experience. This hotel is located just a few blocks from Penn Station, and just a few more blocks from Times Square. You could easily walk right from your room to major areas of New York like the Empire State Building, Broadway, Times Square, and plenty of shopping and nightlife. The exact location is just a bit off the beaten trail in an area that looks pretty rundown, but there are no dark alleys you need to walk down to get here, only major roads, and we felt safe walking to and from this location even at night. The room was tiny, but that is to be expected from a city hotel, especially one at this price point. The room and bed were clean, comfortable, and warm. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We were checked in quickly, and about 15 minutes after arriving we got a call asking us if everything was to our satisfaction or if there was anything else we needed. I was impressed with the extra little bit of attention. If you're looking for a budget hotel in NYC for an event or sightseeing, I highly recommend the Quality Inn for a good sleep without breaking your budget.
great location, breakfast buffet, friendly staff”
My boyfriend and I spent a very great time in this hotel. Indeed our room were at the last floor (ask for the 15th I think) and we've got an amazing view on NYC and skycrasper !! It was so nice ! Room are not so big but enought for us, very clean and confortable. TV with a large pannel of channel, WIFI included and staff was such friendly. They helped us each time we needed. Last thing we've got breakfast included which was a buffet with quite choice of food! (you can even make your own waffle!!) I recommende this hotel which is a very great quality/price ratio for NYC !! Moreover you are in Midtown Manhattan about 15min by walk from Time Square !!! Closed of the subway station (Penn station)and so closed of all the major attractions.
Name is river hotel but”
First, I lived in NYC before. I know many other hotels in NY compaired than...not bad. Location is not crowd but definitely not super close to Timesquare. Everything is not bad but they said I can see the Hudson river in my room but I couldn't see at all :(
Value for Money”
This is a no frills hotel that have an excellent location (near to Penn Station & Times Square). The room is adequate for 2 persons and a key can be used to open and lock the safe deposit box (instead of using the battery). The room and bathroom are clean. For this location, it is a value for money hotel. There are many restaurants and delis nearby, as well as near subway stations.
Location, location, location”
We stayed for two nights on the 7th floor. The room was clean and we found the mattress was comfortable on the king bed. Wifi was fast and there were many tv channels to choose from for the brief time we spent in the room. We chose the hotel primarily for the proximity to transport. It is only a 5-10 minute walk from Amtrak at Penn Station and about the same distance to the E line to JFK. It is also close to Megabus. Macy's, Times Square, restaurants and so on were also within walking distance. The reception staff were friendly and the basic buffet breakfast saved the hassle of finding food first thing. The area immediately surrounding the hotel is rather run down but we felt safe getting to and from there. The plumbing sometimes made loud noises. We stayed organised the limited space around the bed wasn't an issue. We would stay again.
Small but clean”
The hotel is a bit distance from Penn Station but it's not hard to find. The hotel location is not at the main street so the noise of the street from the room is manageable. Front desk officer is friendly and helpful. Alley to the room is a bit small. Room is small but clean. That's the most important for us as room is only a place to sleep when we are in NY. The hotel provides amenities like soap, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Hair dryer is also available. Breakfast is included and is not bad at all. It is served at 7am on weekend and 6.30am on weekday. Going to time square is at walking distance although a bit far, just make sure to bring jacket and wearing layers if you are going on October, it is pretty windy and chilly in NY especially at night. The neighbourhood is pretty quiet so need to manage the time going back to the hotel although it was so far safe for us to walk at 11pm. There's a regular homeless 2 blocks away from the hotel at the 36th street but didn't bother the pedestrian. Taxi is easy to find, they normally at the left side of the hotel at the corner of the street. Hotel staff can also help to book a taxi but it will cost a fixed rate of usd25 to any part around the town. If you'd like to stay in Times Square area, may be need to consider the number and size of luggage as the hotel rooms are normally pretty small, it would be bother to keep the luggage in the room with small space provided.
Great Value, good location.”
Very close to the Hudson Yards Stn on the 7 line. Within easy walking distance of both Penn Stn and Times Sqr. Nice rooms, quiet hotel.
Value for money hotel”
Walking distance to the main shopping stretch at Herald's Square (Macy's, 2 H&M stores, Manhattan Mall which houses a JCPenney's store). Decent dining options around - a Thai noodle bar (serving authentic Thai good), Chinese take out, a steak house. The complimentary hot breakfast was also pretty good - eggs, sausage, waffles, toast, juice, milk cereal. Clean hotel and decent reception staff. Wifi also worked well in the rooms. One small complaint was that the room walls were a little thin, so sounds from the lift door and room doors opening and closing could be heard. Also, on the first day, a guest from another room had accidentally opened the door to my room - a potentially alarming security breach if I may say so - how could someone else have keycard access to my room? Certainly kept me on my toes for the first day.
Value for money”
For the price offered (Manhattan hotels are exhorbitantly priced), this is a steal! It's in midtown manhattan and is few-minutes of walk away from penn station and other subway/bus stations. Room is decent with basic necessities. This is a 3-star hotel so do not expect a grand lobby, or swimming pool and gym...this is more like a motel. Besides, you are in NYC and you are supposed to be outside enjoying the city's attractions, not inside the hotel. Staff are all friendly and helpful. Will stay here again.
It was fun and eventful.”
My stay was very good and I enjoyed it very much. I would recommend it to my friends or relatives who are going to New York for a holiday.
Friendly Staff and very good location”
the building is a little bit old, but all the facilities function well and I've got a sumsung smart TV in my room which is really awesome. Wifi is fast, room is clean, staff is very friendly and it is very close to time square.
Clean and Safe”
Perfect location and decent size rooms (it’s NYC so you don’t spend much time in your hotel room hopefully.) Each floor only has four rooms so it’s easy to navigate. Second time staying at this hotel and it will be my go to anytime I’m in NYC now.
good location, clean and nice staff but small room”
It is near Time Square, supermatkets and Macy's shopping mall and not far from the subway at all. it is also clean and the staffs are very nice and willingful to help us. The room is quite small for us (3 persons) but overall is fine.
The staff were very friendly and nice. The facility was very clean and location was perfect for me. ”
I like that I could walk to the Jarvis center from the hotel and also and 8 blocks from Times Square.
Great location, price high during the holidays”
We enjoyed our stay around the Hudson new area. A walk away from the main landmarks with nice places to eat.
Small but clean”
My daughter and I are from upstate ny but not very familiar with the city. We went to a broadway show and wanted to stay close to Times Square. It was a about 9 blocks from Times Square but clean and the service was good. Free wifi and very affordable. I would stay there again.
We are a family of for who spent two nights at this hotel just before New Year's. The hotel is as advertised. The room is small; it was difficult to have more than one person moving around at the same time. The street is quiet relative to other locations in Manhattan. The location is convenient to the Lincoln Tunnel, so we didn't need to drive around in Manhattan on our way to and from the hotel. Breakfast is adequate, but there is not much seating in the breakfast area and it can be tough to find a seat and get food when the hotel is busy, as it was when we stayed there. I would like to give praise to one particular person on the staff -- I do not know his name, but there was a south Asian gentleman who went out of his way to hustle around and try to help guests get what they needed at breakfast. All in all this is a fine hotel if you are making a quick trip on a budget and do not intend to spend much time in the room. Do not stay here if you have very high expectations.
microwave and water dispenser provided in common area. 10-15 mins walk to Times Square. finding food at night also require some walk.
Good services and convenient location”
services were overall friendly and good, plus 5-10 walking distance to time square and some famous spots in midtown. the room is small but it's ny hotel's issue i think.
It’s about 20min walking distance to Time square, easy to find, helpful staff, and has a few good food spots around.
