Excellent!”
great location, social atmosphere, clean
Everything here was great! The location is convenient to Old Town sites, walkable to Night Market, and great street vendors just across the street. Everything was very clean and comfortable. I arrived super early in the morning and they allowed me to take a shower and hang out in the common areas until my bed was available. Lots of friendly people. Staff very helpful in booking transportation and activities.

Great hostel”
Atmosphere, staff, value.
Great! The whole place is kept clean and has a light and bright atmosphere. The dorms are very reasonable with a locker assigned to each bed. (I was in the 12 person dorm and had no complaints.) There are multiple chill out areas. A downstairs seating area for eating/drinking, easy to find people to go out with down here or just have dinner with. An upstairs entertainment room, A/Ced, it's a nice place to lounge, read a book, watch one of their movies on the large screen, use the provided computers or wifi, play a game etc. the staff were super helpful, they helped us book a cooking class and were very knowledgable. There is also a small rooftop terrace (which they could decorate more) but still offers a cool view of the surrounding area. I would definitely reccomend!

location,staff,atmosphere
I stayed in female dorm for 6 nights,it was great experience except the last night,a girl in my room brought two men into the dorm at about 4am,they opened and closed the door so heavily and talked so loudly that woke all of us up and couldn't sleep. Then one guy slept with the girl, the other one slept on a empty bed.The guy slept with the girl left after about half an hour, the other one slept in the room until morning. It was so terrible that I never meet in other hostels, the staff should be more strict to manage their guests. It's a high recommended hostel if without this terrible experience!

Fun Social Hostel, Good For Making Friends”
The Guests, The Staff, The Location
Overall I had a great stay at Hug Hostel. I would totally suggest staying here if you are a solo traveler who is looking to meet other people. I met many new friends here both in my room and sitting in the dining area having coffee or a beer. People are very friendly and when sitting out in the dining/cafe area you can either join them at their table or they will ask to join you! On the flip side, if you are a traveller looking for lights out and silence at 10pm, this is not the places for you. Hug Hostel is a fun, lively place and people are up all hours of the night enjoying their stays in Chiang Mai. The staff at Hug were also great. Very friendly and accommodating and if you are planning a trip or are looking for something to do in Chiang Mai, the front desk has many suggestions of things you can do both overnight and day trip, free and organized group tour.

Hug is the best hostel I've stayed in on my trip so far. The staff is super friendly, so helpful, and They organize really fun activities. The bar / lounge is great and makes it really easy to meet people. The beds are really hard but other than that, I have no complaints.

Great staff, new hostel”
New, Staff friendliness, location
This hostel is only 2 months old when I stayed in it, so it's pretty new. The beds are a little hard, but they change your sheets every day. The staff is amazing, helping you do anything you need to. They learn to call everyone by their name, which is quite impressive. It's located right at the north gate so you can walk to most things, with a night food market right across the moat/river.

A fantastic hostel ”
The Staff, The social, The cleanliness
Stayed here with my boyfriend for a few nights whilst in Chang Mai. The staff we're amazing and really helpful. The hostel is really new and modern and the rooms were spotless. It was very social and great for meeting other travellers. The only negatives were that the beds were a little hard and it's a little bit out of the way, but not massively as it's still within the old city. It's a great hostel and I would I highly recommend it to anyone else visiting Chang Mai.

Dolores Umbridge's newest venture”
the rooms were nice enough, the bathrooms needed a bit more attention though and the drainage issues in the men's showers were pretty grim, they sorted that the next day though. the staff were friendly although the walls were not- as much as a hostel needs rules this place was reminiscent of Hogwarts when Dumbledore got screwed and that nasty woman from the Ministry took over- eeeeverywhere you look is a sign telling you not to do something and 'this' isn't allowed. Ironically, although most of them are there for safety etc and are common sense, it actually makes you feel a bit on edge, and fairly patronised. also, if the bar downstairs doesn't want you to bring in your own alcohol they might want to try serving something other than beer (except for soft drinks it's literally the only thing on the drinks menu). the breakfast muesli was great though! the fried eggs with toast were not- the outside of the eggs looked good but the yolk was solid as if it'd been cooked on the lowest heat for 20mins- which it had because that's how long it took to get to the table. I'm a chef and it seriously takes some work to get a fried egg THAT wrong. Saying that it did have quite a good social scene near the bar and the view from the (small) rooftop area is good. there are definitely worse places to stay in CM for the price but there's certainly room for improvement. 50/50 on whether I'd stay there again but my partner didn't like it so much.

Elephant pants convention”
location, good common areas, wifi ok
Very popular hostel among young cliche backpackers who seem to only wear elephant pants and singlets while carrying oversized backpacks with too much stuff. Dorm rooms are too big with too many people crammed into the room, so you have to deal with a lot of annoyances from other guests. When I arrived, every single other person in my dorm room was sick, coughing and sneezing all over the place. Hostel has tour group services and a bar on the main floor, and a decent sized common room. Location is just inside the city walls, so it is not too far to walk to most places.

Great location, everything good except AC”
Staff, rooms, cafe
Good stay but our air conditioning was broken. They took care of me and moved my room but the AC was not very good in that room either. They also completely shut it off from 11-2 so if you want to chill inside your option is the lounge area which is air conditioned well.
