    Home away from home”

Friendly owner Center located Nice breakfast

Hyosundang had been a home away from home for us & Mr. Lee, the owner of the very homey hanok, was like a father to us! As we were a large group of 7, Mr. Lee kindly accommodate us at Hyosundang II, which is one if the biggest hanoks amongst his three! Hyosundang II is located VERY near to Anguk Station (walking distance of less than 2 mins!) & very close to a few 7/11s as well! From here, Insadong (artistic streets & Ssamziegil) & Buckhon Hanok Village are just within walking distance! There's a lot of very artsy & nice cafes here, you can do a lil' bit of cafe hopping within this area. It's one of our favourite area in Seoul as it's less crowded & a stroll along the streets of Buckhon always gives us good surprise (eg. rooftop cafés, ramyeon in a hanok restaurant, street singer, small boutiques & many more)! The hospitality of Mr. Lee, his wife & the lovely ahjummani who prepared our home cooked breakfast deserved a mention! We had bibimbap/ American toast on alternate morning as breakfast & Mr. Lee made us Kimchi tofu for a few nights & had drinks with us in the hanok though we went back late! Our stay with Hyosundang made us good memories in Seoul & that of course was due to our very kind, hearted host! P/s: Don't bother filling ur bags with the maps/ brochures at the airport cause Mr. Lee has lots of those at his Hanok & he gave good recommendation of the places to visit. He was even kind enough & print us a map with little written notes on how to get to a BBQ restaurant!

    Kamsahamnida for a fantastic experience!”

Traditional decor, Under-floor heating, Welcoming hosts

The way Seoul’s natives barge past you on the Metro, we hadn’t felt very welcome in the city; that was until we checked into Hyosundang Hanok Guesthouse. Our hosts were very sweet and helpful. From cleaning off the suitcases we had just dragged through the snow, to bombarding us with complimentary towels, and – despite the language barrier - advising us on places to visit. Sleeping on the matted ground had never much appealed to me, but proved surprisingly comfortable. The charming traditional rooms, coupled with ‘ondol’ style under-floor heating, making for a base we couldn’t wait to get back to of an evening. The shower was clean, strong and hot… and I already mentioned the abundance of towels. I’ve noticed there have been a couple of bad reviews lately; but struggle to see why. My guess would be they owe to the biting winter weather, -14°C, enough to make anyone cranky!

    Nice little Korean Traditional House”

    Location

we stayed 2 nights at hyosundang hanok guesthouse. our room is small but very warm. need to share bathroom with other guests. i really like the location, 2 min walk to anguk metro station and nearby the sightseeing places like insadong and palace area. even airport bus stop is 3 min walk only. it's so convenient! but the house is a small lane where taxi cannot enter, though there's sign on the street, still not easy to find. owner speaks a little english and very polite and nice. our breakfast is included and it was really nice. the room is separated with only paper doors against other rooms. so at night, you don't really have any privacy. cannot talk too loud, because the old grandpa still lives in the main house, and he sleeps quite early.

    Great Hanok experience ”

Great Hanok experience subway station Airport bus

Great Hanok experience Very Friendly host, close to cultural attraction in Seoul, close to subway station and Airport bus, korean immersion 9.3 Great Stay in this guesthouse, is very helpful and friendly and is always ready for help and advice. All started before going to Seoul when I received a small email from him explaining how to find the guesthouse from the Airport bus station in Anguk, very close (around 200m)but email very useful as you must not miss the small street between Hanna Bank and Kodak. When we arrived the room was quiet small but very comfortable and the heated ground is marvelous when the outside temperature is sub-zero like during our trip in February. We arrived quiet late and advice us a great restaurant near the guesthouse that was still open at this time. A traditional korean beef stew was our first meal in Seoul (he even helped us to order). I must say that our first impression was really good...and the second even better. The guest house is just close to the main cultural attraction in Seoul and the subway station (Anguk station line 3) is just 5mn away, from there you can go to every corner of Seoul. Morning breakfeast is simple but consistant and is a good opportunity to chat with other guest who can advice you place to see and go. Overall a great experience and a good opportunity to meet great people. The only drawback might be the bathroom that is outside of the roomm, but very minor (2m away from the room only)

Friendly owner. Clean room. Good place to experience staying in Korean Traditional Hanok. Close to subway (about 3 to 5 mins walk). Airport bus stops very close to the guesthouse (next to subway exit). Take note to check if you are staying in the Hyosundang main guesthouse or house 2 because the two are not next to one another.

Unique traditional experience, very friendly owner”

Unique, traditional, very near subway and shopping

Our 2 night stay was unbelievably unforgettably unique. It was freezing cold outside but so warm and cozy in the room. I think this is the nearest traditional guesthouse to the subway, compared to other hanok guesthouses which are usually further away. Tv and cable is all available in the room. The friendly and helpful owner had the details all worked out: slippers, towels, ondol, all other essentials, homecooked breakfast. . The toilet is shared with other guests in the house, so you gotta wait for your turn. But the experience and the cleanliness is the most important. Highly recommended!!

    service quality, hospitality, cleanness

I booked a guest house named 'hyosundang', for my plan to visit 'Bukchon' area where you can find some traditional korean lifestyle. The guest house is run by couple, and the husband has been living in Bukchon with his parents for a long time. The couple was very kind enough to bring the breakfast into my room. I also appreciate them for helping me find the nearby post office and send the things I bought overseas. They have outdoor bateroom in the yard but they were clean and warm without any problem. With all this pleasant experience, I strongly recommend this guesthouse in terms of service quality, hospitality, and cleanness.

Great experience in traditional Korean Guesthouse”

Traditional accomodations, good location, friendly owners

Having stayed in several Seoul hotels in the past I felt I was ready to go for the more traditional Hanok guesthouse experience. The owners spoke enough English to make me welcome, although I arrived at the first house and had to move to the second. My room was everything I wanted - a simple bare floor with folded futon-style floor mattress and quilt. The heated floor made everything very cosy. As a westerner I did find the mattress hard , but that was all part of the experience. The location is great - between the Incha-dong shopping area and the traditional royal area. The subway station and airport bus is a short walk away. Recommended for those who want traditional accommodation with easy access to modern Seoul.

    location

The thing I liked the most was close in Insadong. To collect data in Insadong, I had to do a photo shoot with dozens of shops. To replace heavy equipment, I often come in at the hostel. At that time, just across the street, it was very convenient. Also, there was a Gyeongbokgung near hyosundang. It's a five-minute-walk away. Airport bus stop in front of the hyosundang to go to airport was so great.

Hot hearty Korean breakfast, Easy access from airport, Central location to cultural exploration

Easy access from Incheon airport: Take bus 6011. Listen to English announcement. Get down at Anguk Station. Look for Starbuck. From Starbuck, walk towards Coffee Bean and Hana Bank. Turn into the lane between Hana Bank and Kodak. Walk straight (flat road) around 90-100 steps. Guesthouse is on the right. Central location :10 min to east is Gyeongbok Palace. 10 min to west is Changdeok Palace. 10 min to north is Bukchon Hanok Village. 15 min to south-east is Jongmyo Shrine. Only guided tour allowes. English tour at 10 am, 12pm, 2pm and 4 pm. 10 min to southwest is shopping area Insadong. Need 2 days at least to explore the whole area. Only 2 external toilets shared by 5 rooms. So imagine queueing outside in winter for the toilet! However, hot hearty breakfast by Mr Lee and Co makes up for it. Enjoy!

Amazing place - unique and prefect location ”

    location & uniqueness

Great guesthouse with a cozy traditional feel. The location could not be better, easy walking distance to all the sites. Located basically in the Bukchon Village area we were able to explore the historic areas of Bukchon and also the artistic district of Isadong. Also very close to the Changdeokgung Palace and Gyeongbokgung. We went in the winter and Seoul is very cold, but the rooms and even the bathrooms had heated floors. The guesthouse owner is very friendly and made just breakfast every morning. Best guesthouse we have stayed at in a while.
