Great Out of the Way, Small Hotel in ChiangmaiThis small converted guest house hotel is a great, relaxing place for the budget traveler to stay within the old area of Chiangmai and within walking distance of most of the tourist attractions located in the center of the city. Good, reasonably priced restaurants in the area, several markets, and bars for those interested in having a few relaxing drinks after a hard day of site seeing. Mostly quiet area. Hotel has a nice, casual garden seating area. Highly recommend.

Lovely and cozy place to stayLocated inside the old city wall, within walking distance to the night market, this is a lovely and affordable place to stay. Parking space is limited and the bathroom is on the small side. However, the staff are very nice and attentive, the place look nice and comfortable to stay, the bedroom was lovely. Overall, me and my wife had a great stay.

The best free breakfast and great ambiance The location of this hotel is at the corner of one Chiang Mai old city gates, so it was perfectly situated. It was near the market. They had bikes for rent which I think was cheap 50thb compared to other bike rentals. I actually loved the free breakfast.. and since they have a restaurant, the presentation and taste were better than I expected. I stayed at the hotel even after my check out, left my backpack and went to see other places. They let me use their shower for 150thb. It was still a good gesture even if I paid because I can't imagine doing the 17hr trip to ChiangMai to Vang Vieng, laos feeling filthy.

Lovely small hoteleven limited choice but still like the breakfast. All staff are friendly and helpful, especially the night shift male staff, just forgot to ask his name. He didnt charge me the bicycle rental fee on 2nd day, although just 50 bht per day!! The only week point is the street is too quiet in the night but the location still good, just around the corner at the north gate of Tha Pae Gate.

    Lovely two story room!”

room design, staff, 2 x flatscreen tvs/dvd players

Our stay here was excellent. We stayed in the junior pantry suite, whichwas really cute. It had a little lounge downstairs and and a lovely bed on the upstairs mezzanine. Not a huge room but what it lacked in space, it made up for in style. Big selection of dvds to borrow which you can watch from your downstairs lounge or from your bed. The bathroom is a bit small but clean and has everything you need. Breakfast is quite basic but tasty. I would definitely stay here again.

Quiet and cozy environment, delicious breakfast

Had a hard time finding the hotel but when I found it, I knew the find was worthy. Love how the hotel is built and decorated in european style, it made me felt like I am in europe not thailand, haha. The room was not big but it was comfortable, air-con, tv and dvd player were provided in the room. The king-sized bed was very comfortable. Btw, love how the hotel named the rooms by the elements on earth

    great location, great staff”

    location, comfort, staff

A classy hotel inside the Moat but away from the noisier part of town. My first time in Chiang Mai and this was a good choice. Rooms and facilities are in good shape. No mould smell common in lots of hotels during the wet season. The staff were the outstanding feature. They gave us attentive service with a smile. Advice on local things and prices was fair and not too heavily overlaid by the usual commission based self interest. Would stay here again and recommend this hotel, especially for first time visitors to CM.

Charcoa - attractive and value for money”

Good Location. Clean and attractive. Delicious well-presented food. Good value for money
Hard beds and pillows. Room small

We recently stayed at Charcoa for 4 nights and enjoyed our time there. The location is convenient, in a residential area but with plenty of facilities nearby. This guesthouse is spotlessly clean, well-maintained and very attractive and the staff were all helpful and pleasant. The food in the adjacent Charcoa restaurant is very good and reasonably priced. We noticed several local people eating there and also buying the delicious cakes and pastries. Our deluxe room was small and yes, the beds and pillows were hard, but otherwise it was well-equipped and very quiet – all good value for money.

    Charcoa Charm”

Friendly staff; quiet; clean rooms; very nice boutique design which gives homey/relaxed feel; close to main tourist area; two different entrances/exits; breakfast menu is awesome!
No pool; rooms slightly small for price; impractical outdoor area in room (stare at walls); little sound proof between adjoining rooms

Overall, Charcoa House & Cozy Hotel is a great place to stay...great food (especially the desserts and dinner menu), and good place to chill in a relaxed atmosphere; it's a warm stay here, as opposed to an overpriced, cold and 5-star hotel you can find anywhere that lacks character.

Snuggle up nice and cozily in Chiang Mai”

Hidden in a quiet lane around Chiang Mai's moat area. Lots of greenery and a nice facade which immediately soothes a traveller's tired soul upon check-in. Small yet full of character. Nice cozy room. Restaurant that serves the best expresso in Chiang Mai, along with some very fine Western cuisine available and a hearty breakfast as well. Dining can be enjoyed al fresco undisturbed, be it day or night.
No response from Charcoa after we sent in a request via its website for airport pick-up upon arrival. But got a taxi without much fuss anyway. And another bad thing is we only booked one night in Charcoa.

We booked Charcoa online through Agoda after going through various websites' reviews. Liked its cosy atmosphere that it portrays. And this is confirmed the moment we reached there; although our taxi driver has a little trouble finding the place as it is quite well hidden in a quiet 'soi'/lane. The deluxe twin room albeit small, but it had all the amenities provided with a nice private patio with an airwell. Charcoa restaurant also serves the best expresso in town, along with some very fine Western cuisine and a hearty breakfast too. All these to be enjoyed in an al fresco setting, a cool atmosphere to hang out, be it day ot night.

Warm comfortable ambience. Filling and tasty breakfasts. Bizarre enclosed prison-like terrace.
Titchy rooms. They won't allow durian in them. Staring middle-aged Italian men in sunglasses. Bizarre enclosed prison-like terrace. No BBC or cricket on the satellite service.

Worth the asking price, and on the edge of the old town with lots of back alleys to explore. Close to a main road, and so handy for cheap red cabs, if you want to get to the action downtown. Good food in the restaurant. Agreeable service. Room a tad small but with an intriguing mock-Tudor black wooden beam to gape at.
