“Super lousy guesthouse.”
Having stayed at many hotels and guesthouses in different countries, this time was the worst experience. I must leave a review to warn everyone. Originally, I thought this guesthouse was very good because it was my first time staying there. My parents were visiting Yilan for the first time, and I wanted to take them to what I thought was a great guesthouse. It turned out to be the worst. The check-in time for the guesthouse is 3 PM, but due to our schedule, we arrived late, around 8:15 PM. When we entered the room, it was a shocking 33 degrees Celsius, feeling very stuffy, and the entire room smelled of mold. After running the air conditioning for half an hour, it still wasn’t cooling down; it took an hour to drop the temperature by only 1 degree, and the moldy smell lingered. The sink was rusty and hadn’t been cleaned. The towel rack was very dirty, obviously never washed. The toilet had major flushing issues; it took around 10 tries to get it to flush properly. I mentioned the issues with the air conditioning and the flushing to the owner, and they said there were no problems at all. They just walked away, even though there were rooms available and they didn’t change our room. Then there were more issues in the room: there was an incredible amount of dust, the TV screen was broken (though it displayed something, it was very distracting), and when I tried to use the Blu-ray player, the remote was also broken. Out of curiosity, I opened the cabinet under the TV and found it filled with mold—little black spots everywhere, which resulted in my skin becoming sensitive in the following days. The fridge in the room didn’t work properly; to chill drinks, I had to carry them down to the basement fridge from the third floor, which was extremely inconvenient. The next day during check-out, my family had stepped out. Due to a small issue, I only went back to my room around 11:15 AM, planning to quickly use the restroom, grab our luggage, and check out. Upon entering the room, I found that our luggage had been disturbed and the air conditioning had been turned off. The owner had entered the occupied room without permission and insisted that we had already checked out. They had our phone number from check-in but didn’t call to notify us. I mentioned it was difficult for my elderly family members to use the restroom, and we would leave as soon as they finished, but the owner insisted they come out immediately, rushing us to leave. It only took 2 minutes for them to use the restroom; was it necessary to act that way? They said our delay could inconvenience the next guest, but my check-out was at 11 AM and the next guest was at 3 PM—four hours apart, yet I was still told we would delay someone. I will never stay here again, and I won't recommend this guesthouse to friends or relatives visiting Yilan in the future.
