The friendliest hotel we stayed in our trip. ”
I have only good things to say about this hotel. It's not your 5* luxury hotel, but it is the friendliest and the owner and staff made you feel so welcome. When we checked in, the 2 young reception staff were all smiles even though they spoke very little English which was better than our non-existent Japanese. When we asked for direction to a local restaurant, the owner decided to drive us there instead of explaining to us the route in his limited English. When we returned to the hotel, we were given cool towels and a cold local dessert. When we checked out, we were given bottles of energy drinks and sweets to help us keep alert on our way ! I don't think any 5* hotel would do that. During breakfast, the owner (I should have asked his name) personally cooked and served breakfast. We had black pork shabu shabu for breakfast ! The owner's family all came out to bade us good bye when we checked out!
kind and delicious”
the price is cheap and the staff is kind and beakfast is delicious, specially the pork shabushabu is best
Only saved by the breakfast!”
Room was really really old and worn down. Filled with smoke smell. Faces a Kindergarten so be prepared for Kids screaming and crying early in the morning. Could not rest after coming on a late flight.
Hotel near shopping street with nice Japanese brea”
It is an old hotel but room is considered clean and comfortable. Staff are helpful with our queries and even offer us ice cream when we were microwaving food in the lobby. Breakfast is the best.. Japanese style and have everything we wanted for a Japanese meal. I was surprised to see kim chee and fulikake. Very worth it for the room price we pay.
A Perfect Stay”
From the moment I checked in, the stay was great. To begin with the staff was very friendly and helpful. Many nights I would be greeted at my return with some ice cream or other dessert. The breakfast was everything would could expect. I was never disappointed with the quality of the food. The room was larger than most I have had during my stay in Japan. The bed was very comfortable. In short, I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone staying in Kagoshima. The port with ferry to Sakurajima is a 10 minute walk at most. With a tram stop about 3 minutes from hotel, it was easy to travel everywhere I needed.
A relaxing hotel to unwind in”
The location is good, as the hotel is located near the local tram as well as major sightseeing attractions such as Sakurajima. Check in and check out is fast as well, and the staff are all very friendly and polite. They even offered us an energy drink when we checked out early in the morning, which really surprised and touched us. The hotel room is very spacious, which makes it ideal for families. There are vending machines and washing machines located on my floor; not sure if it is the same for all floors. The bedding is clean and the bed is really comfy as well! A good place to stay in, if you are travelling on budget.
Wonderful experience, definitely going back! ”
Our stay here was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They really went out of their way to help us. The owner is a friendly man who you can tell cares greatly about the quality of service he is providing. He also went out of his way to help us with directions and suggestions for seeing the local sights. Our accommodations were clean and modern, and for Japan quite spacious! The hotel is clean and inviting, with a lobby rest area, and local shochu tasting was a bonus! The traditional Japanese breakfast was absolutely amazing, so delicious! Also, this place had the only good coffee we had in Japan! It's very close to the big Tenmonkan shopping arcade, all amenities, as well as the city bus/tram and tourist bus stops. Post Office is also close by. Only good things to say, we loved it and would definitely go back!
Spacious budget hotel with an excellent breakfast.”
We only stayed one night in Kagoshima but can definitely recommend Nanshukan. It was as cheap as anywhere else we found and also came with an excellent breakfast included. This is all you can eat and was a great start to the day. The rooms are very big by japanese standards and although the decor might be slightly dated, we quite liked this as it felt like a bit of a throwback. The room was spotless.
Fabulous stay! ”
We stayed in six different hotels on our most recent travels in Japan and Nanshukan came up tops. The room was a lot larger than all the other places we stayed at. Although a little dated (which is totally OK), it was very clean and comfortable. The Japanese breakfast served was generous, wholesome and absolutely delicious. The one thing that will stick with us, though, is the warm hospitality. Throughout our stay, we were treated very well by all the staff, and felt like we were arriving home each time we got back from a day out. It may not be five-star in appearance, but the Nanshukan reminds us about the importance of the personal touch in the hospitality industry, something that is missing in the majority of establishments. If you ever find yourself in Kagoshima, do not stay anywhere else but at the Nanshukan. We are so glad we did and will definitely stay here again the next time we are in town.
Great hotel for the price you pay”
Very nice place to stay, it was handy to have a washing machine in my room (separate room for the laundry). The staff were friendly, breakfast was great and the location was perfect to shops, parks and railway.
this hotel owns the best breakfast set in Kagoshim”
the hotel staff is super friendly and provide vey good service whatever you ask for , he will try to accomplish ! and beside this hotel serves the best hotpot in Japan. the room is big although some equipments look a bit old. but it is acceptable. pre-book the room prior to 1 month in advanced to get a better discount.
Staff very gentle and great central location”
First, the staff is amazing in helping and giving gifts. The location is great, though a bit tricky to find if you're coming by car (the GPS is misleading). Rooms are regular size for Japan business like hotels, and sometimes with tobacco smoke. Great choice, if only for the location and the staff
Great service, dated room. ”
The rooms were dated but amongst the biggest we had in Japan (still the small bathroom though). The bed was comfy and wireless internet worked in the room. The breakfast was a big Japanese one and very tasty (even if there were 1 or 2 things you didn't like it was still great). If you sat in the lobby they'd give you green tea and they gave you an ice cream in the afternoon. Staff were very friendly and helpful (even if their English wasn't great). If you go to Kagoshima you must try the local black beef - Amazing!
Will revisit again”
Breakfast is included, there are 2 type of breakfasts, traditional Japanese style and Western style. Staff able to speak good English, which hardly find in Japan. Free energy drink as a small gesture of their "Thank You", very thoughtful.
excellent, outstanding, attentive, caring, staff. ”
YES! ONCE AGAIN, JUST A GREAT STAFF! EVERYONE! WE WANTED SO MUCH TO STAY LONGER. WE HAD PREVIOUS COMMITMENTS. WE WILL TELL EVERYONE WHO PLAN TO VISIT JAPAN TO PLEASE STAY NANSHUKAN IN KAGOSHIMA AND HAVE ALL THEIR MEALS THERE FIRST BEFORE EATING ELSEWHERE. GM MR. HASHIMOTO WAS VERY ACCOMODATING, PROFESSIONAL AND SO WERE ALL HIS STAFF. THEY WERE NOT ONLY HELPING US BUT ALL THE OTHER GUEST AS WELL. JUST TERRIFIC!!!~I WILL DEFINITELY STAY THERE AGAIN, AGAIN AND AGAIN. DOMO ARIGATO GOZAIMASU. I WORKED IN 5 DIAMOND RESORTS IN HAWAII BUT THE NANSHUKAN GM AND ENTIRE TEAM WERE REAL DIAMONDS!!
Great hotel, but kind of old”
We only stayed there for one night, it was a really good experience. I really love that the rooms are spacious, but you still get the same small bathroom. Right next door to the shopping area and only minutes away from the ferry to sakurajima.
Good Location ”
We stayed over the New Year and was only served a bowl of japanese soup for breakfast for 2 days, which was much smaller than the usual jap breakfast that they normally served. Their rooms and furniture are outdated although quite clean. There is free wifi at the ground level and free ice cream and a fish spa. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic to do what they can to make things better for you.
very nice family run house, splendid apartment”
Hearthy welcome, free ice cream at evenings by Reception. Kind service at breakfast. Big room with tatami floor and western type bed. Washing machine for free use and soap powder in room. House would need some refurbishment though Good location Helpful staff
warm welcome, good catering, friendly room”
great staff, both hotel and inhouse restaurant. great breakfast, nice japanese speaking people serving us full heartedly do not miss a vsit to sakurajima side with the ferry, visit the open air furusato onsen there take the city view bus to iso beach and have a swim in the sea the cut glass factory near the beach has a freely available tour, go and have a look
Kind staff, free perks”
While the rooms are a bit retro/dated, this hotel is clean and comfortable and a great value. Good central location, helpful and friendly staff gave us free ice cream upon check-in, free shochu and tea in the lobby, a free massage chair and energy drinks upon check-out. The only con was the tiny bathroom reminded us of one on board a space shuttle/boat or something. Overall, it was a good experience and we would happily go back or recommend to a friend!
