I was disappointed that there was no ensuite or air conditioning, Manly in Summer is hot. It was my fault as I assumed there was aircon. The staff were very friendly and informative
Mark was very helpful on arrival with accommodation & parking permits. ”
The placement of the smoke detector was in a bad place in the kitchenette, as I cooked some toast for breakfast & the detector went off twice ( toast wasn’t burnt either)
We enjoyed our stay here, it was clean and comfortable, the building has lots of charm and character and its located in a nice quiet street.
If you're after somewhere within walking distance to beach, shops, ferry this is the place! Lovely clean room (bit light on for milk and coffee though) The only downside is the parking...what a nightmare! Even with a permit there's no guarantee of getting a car park...we just left the car parked most days and walked and ferried around
Not worth the advertised rate”
The Executive room is priced at $250 per night and I got it at a last minute rate of $100 per night. It's a very simple room, with a reasonable kitchenette and 1980's style simple toilet. There is no way it's worth the advertised price. There isn't much space and you will need the blinds down to enjoy any privacy. It is close to Manly beach which is a good plus but off street parking is limited to 2 hours at a time.
Dear Guest, well what a bargain you got - close to beach, transport, cafes, beautiful weather all for $100 per night in a lovely apartment with air conditioning for cooling or heating, internet, ensuite bathroom with a 2004 bathroom and double blinds to allow privacy with a heavier block out blind for night time and the kitchen had vertical drapes so not sure why you would think you had no privacy. We are in the process of upgrading all vertical drapes with the double blinds purely so they are more modern. We dont advertise this apartment for $250 per night so not sure where you got this figure from, our high season rate is around $180 per night. Despite your negative response, we do hope that you still enjoyed your stay around the Manly area and wish you all the best. regards management
Good value, very thin walls, can hear everything from next room and halls.. the parking situation in Manly is a joke. Can't Park ANYWHERE for more than 2 hours.. i don't think I'll be going back to Manly based on this alone.
Dear Guest Yes Northern Beaches Council not the best for tourists let alone residents, we all have issues trying to find parking and having to move a vehicle every 2 hours we feel for you. We do have parking permits which you could have paid for which would have saved you having to move your car every 2 hours - there is a fee for this as council only allow us a few permits which we buy to help with out guests. Upstairs yes the bedsits do have thin walls, not much we can do about that as it is a 100 year old building and we cant demolish it. Trust you still enjoyed your stay with us. regards management
Great location clean rooms. Recommend getting parking permit
Great location for a reasonable price.”
Location was an easy walk to the beach and shops. We were lucky, but be mindful the parking may not be close by. The Telly wasn't working in our room which didn't bother us but it might others. Value for money for the location . We'd stay again.
Very disappointing stay: .) southfacing - not a single ray of sun .) no soundproofing at all - one can clearly hear the guests talk, their steps, their opening & closing zippers!! in adjacent apartment .) the door leading to an allegedly private courtyard is not to be locked (deliberately or just broken?); besides this courtyard is not private at all, as other guests & staff can (and do so!) walk by. Very uncomforting as this door is the only way to let fresh air in. People pass by can look into your room and watch you sit on the bed or whatever you do. .) on first & short glimpse the furnishing looks nice - but at a closer one you realize the furnture is worn down (bathroom, kitchen, doors) .) very dirty floor throughout ( + under bed, wardrobe, side tables); although the wooden floor is really beautiful! But it needs to be cleaned before guests move in. The one thing really catching is the fireplace - but in the end it´s not enough to book in this place a second time.
So sad to hear these problems - will certainly look into floors not been cleaned properly. There are 2 doors to this apartment, one a side door allowing guests the freedom to use if they wish to smoke outside or let fresh air in. No we cannot guarantee sunshine but can asure you when it is sunny it filters in through the skylight in the bathroom and bedroom area. We will look at replacing the bathroom cabinet and have only just replaced the top kitchen doors. Thanks for letting us know things were not quite right, all the best management
They need to make the bedding smell fresh after cleaning it; rather than just clean it, cleanse it.
All our linen is collected by a laundry service who provide fresh clean linen back to us - we will pass your comments on to them as they provide the linen for most of the hotels around the northern beaches. Thanks for letting us know. regards management
Clean and simple”
Lovely wooden buildings, facilities are old but everything you need is available. Lovely area, flat short walk to beach. Set back one block from beach on a quiet, picturesque street of older houses.
Clean and comfortable - would have liked to know about providing ID for out of hours arrival before we arrived in Sydney - I understand it but you need to prepare people
Not bad for a couple of nights .”
Comfy bed but limited cooking facilities . Inadequate kitchen utensils. Very difficult to prepare a meal as there was only a microwave and electric frypan but no microwave containers and no sharp knife to cut bread or fruit and veg. Very draughty and too bright at night for sleeping.
We are not allowed to provide full kitchens due to the fear of a fire - the microwave does not require special microwave dishes the dishes provided can be used with a small plate over the top. We will look at replacing a sharp knife, unfortunately, these items often go missing and staff will be advised to double check if one needs to be replaced. Regards management
Everything good except lack of fresh air in bedroom. Had to leave air conditioning on all night. It would be good to have a window which opens.
Having read many reviews we were concerned that The Outback Lodge was going to be filthy and not fit to stay in however, our room was extremely clean and tidy. We were however, disappointed not to be given the room we had actually booked (giving you the option to book specific rooms on Agoda would suggest that’s what you’ll actually get). We had the Queen Suite which was very spacious and had a small kitchen area and sofa however it did lack storage or anywhere to hang anything (wet towels etc) and the bathroom was tiny with nowhere to put towels or toiletries. Parking is a bit of a pain but Manly seems quite keen to stop people parking all day on residential streets so this one is no different. We were lucky enough to get a permit but it cost $18 per day. There is a nice lawned area outside reception with plenty of garden chairs and the laundry has a washer and drier however, the laundry is only accessible while reception is open. It’s only a short walk to the beach and ferries
Thank you for the feedback we certainly appreciate it - yes parking an issue and we do try to help guests with providing a parking permit if one is free, however, they are in high demand and a fee is charged to cover our costs to purchase them. The laundry is shut after staff leave, howevr, most keys to the front doors of the property do open the laundry area - if you had mentioned this to staff they would have been too happy to have left it open for you. Agree we are about to put up once again more towel rails, they constantly get pulled out of the wall so we installed hooks to the bathroom area and behind the door to the apartment - we will certainly re investigate how the rails can be secured more strongly on the walls. All the very best, management
Fan in room was useless. Tap in kitchen was loose.
The hot water in the share shower upstairs would only work every now and then. Lucky it was summer
Neat and cosy. Room was a little small but suited our needs. Friendly and helpful staff. ”
Excellent location within walking distance to the beach and ferry.
What a find in the craziness of Manly school holidays! Superb, neat, calm, accomodation only a stone throw away from beach & shops. As long as you are one of the lucky ones to get your hands on a parking permit, then you can walk anywhere.. that’s when you really feel you’re on holidays. Self contained & very comfortable. I definitely will be back. Thank you :-)
Christian Varming & Adam Varming (son)”
I have previously been a guest to The Outback Lodge and know what to expect, but this time was a disaster. The "room" they offered me and my son was dirty and not fit for guests. The bed was still with linnen from previous guests. The coach next to the bed had only 3 legs and there was a bad smell of oil. The toilet was dirty and when it should be flushed we were told to use the water from the sink. We were told that there had been a double booking, and they were not prepared for our arrival. We refused to take the "room" and had to find a hotel in Manly for the week. I argued for a refund of my money, but the owner declined with the words: " We are running a business, and if we should refund the money for all our guests..." - I finished her sentence: Then you will be out of business! - In all: a bad and sad experience. I have paid your company for something I did not get and expect some kind of refund. I look forward hearing from you. Kindest regards, Christian Varming
