Ikoi no Mura Heritage Minoyama offers public hot-spring baths overlooking the mountains. Free Wi-Fi is available at the public areas and guests can refresh in the sauna rooms. A free shuttle is available from Minano Train Station and Seibu Chichibu Train Station, which must be reserved at time of booking. Guests can choose to stay in Japanese-style or Western-style rooms. Activity hotel - a great cultural experience”

When we arrived at the hotel we got to join a mochi (traditional rice cake)-making workshop in the lobby (apparently they have this activity every Saturday). Our family consisted of adults only, but the kids staying at the ryokan looked thrilled when they got to make mochi themselves so I felt that this would be a great place to visit for families. In the evening the hotel manager arranged a short bus trip to see the stars from the top of Mt. Minoayama (unfortunately the weather was too cloudy to see anything) and a nearby shrine called Hijiri Jinja, dedicated to Japan's first copper coin, Wadou, which apparently was made in this area. In the morning the hotel arranged another trip for guests to the top of Mt. Minoyama to see the view of Chichibu. We were all very impressed by his knowledge about Chichibu and how eager he was to teach and show us about the area. The stay at the hotel was great, the room was spacious, the food was delicious (traditional Japanese cuisine served for dinner & breakfast) and the hot spring bath was a lot bigger than imagined. The only minus is that the transportation options are limited in Chichibu, but if you time it with the shuttle bus it should be fine (there's a free shuttle bus to the ryokan from Seibu Chichibu Station at 3 or Mino Station at 3:30 if you inform the hotel and reserve in advance).
