An Amazing Experience”
Island Garden Resort in Pangubatan! A truly awesome place if you love peacefulness, natural beauty, strolling down the beach. I have been in the Phillipines since July, stayed many places and Island Garden is my and my husbands favorite. On August 27th we had an experience of a lifetime. Here at Island Garden, baby sea turtles were hatched and we were able to watch them dig themselves out of the ground. We watched them race for the sea, at which time they are scooped up and placed in a net cage at the floating dock. This enables them to get stronger and have a better chance at survival. We have made 2 trips to the dock to check on them. I'm still amazed I was witness to such a moment. Management and Staff are some of the finest people I've ever met, Thanks to all of you. From boat rides, to bonfires to lazy strolls on the beach, to beautiful sunrises, you will find it all here at Island Garden Resort in Pangubatan!

For those looking for a relaxing private hideaway”
GETTING THERE: From the nearest port (Kaputian), the resort is a 15-20 minute ride on rocky roads that snake up and down mountainous terrain (there are some serious angles on this road). If you have enough funds (and a possible heart condition), better pay for the resort's transport service. Otherwise, you'll need to make do with hiring local motorbike services (thrill seekers will get a kick out of this). LOCATION: Located on the other side of Samal Island facing away from Davao City, with no commercial establishments nearby. Naturally, the drawback is that there are no dining or entertainment options around other than what's offered in the resort. Nonetheless, I absolutely LOVED that it's isolated from the rest of the world. No competing sound systems, no noisy crowds, you have the beach all to yourself. FOOD & SUPPLIES: As I said, you're limited to what they have in the menu (and pantry). You'll either need to call in advance to check what they have in stock (and maybe request for some items off-menu), or bring some of your own stash and pay a small corkage fee. The food we had was okay, nothing exotic or out of this world. It would be great if they have more choices though. Their dessert/sweets page (consisting primarily of ice cream and fruit shakes) was marked NOT AVAILABLE through it because of periodic power interruptions which made cold storage difficult. "TECH" AMENITIES: The only television in the resort is a large flat screen with cable programming, located inside the restaurant. You either compete or agree with other resort patrons regarding which channel to watch. Their WiFi spot is in their gazebo area near the beach, with connectivity getting spotty in the farther cottages and rooms. OTHERS: The staff is quite friendly, and there are very little distractions from your relaxation time. Value for money is good. I wouldn't mind going back here and I highly recommend this place.

Coming back soon ”
I really don't know where to start... The best resort I have ever stayed at!!! I traveled to samal for a relaxing weekend getaway, but I ended up in a different place which I will not name here. Luciky for me I was rescued by a local and taken to this resort in pangubatan, this is true island paradise. If you are looking for budget and using agoda to book your relaxing holiday on samal do the right thing and book it here. I can also confirm that every photo you see here only shows you a fraction of this places beauty. In the end I extended my stay for 8 nights, thanks to the best managers :) Try diving on the reef Try the spicy wings and the kinilaw Go to the waterfalls

It's like a hidden PARADISE. Highly recommended resort. ”

Superb Resort!”
This is one of the best resort I've been so far. If you love adventure, this is one for you. Going to Kaputian is really fun. From Sta. Ana Wharf (Davao City), you'll ride a boat for an hour and ride "habal-habal" (motorcycle) for 30-45mins going to the resort. The moment I arrived there, I know that my long travel is really worth it! This resort has the friendliest and most accomodating Manager and staffs, with picturesque view of nature. Their food is soo delicious and really well-presented once served. The rooms (treehouse and cottage rooom) where I stayed are big enough for me. This is also a nice place to stay for couples and family. If you're looking for quiet and relaxing resort, you're on the right page. I want to commend IGRP for the overwhelming surprises they gave to me. I celebrated my birthday away from my loved ones on this resort last July 7, 2013. Sir Bong accompanied me to Kaputian to attend sunday mass with no extra charge. They offered a thanksgiving mass to me for my birthday. And while having my dinner on that same day, they prepared an acoustic birthday song for me and a "resort-made birthday cupcake". I feel so special. Thank you guys! I'll definitely recommend this resort and I'll go back to your resort soon(with family and friends)! God bless IGRP Management and staff.

Serene Place”
This is actually my second visit -- the first was in 2013. I am glad to report that the place has not lost it appeal and hasn't aged -- it's still as lovely as it was. Value for money -- we had some problem here because the listed price in Agoda is higher than the walk-in rate at the hotel, but I hope that Agoda and the hotel can sort this through. The hotel price does not include the travel from the wharf to the hotel (cost can depend whether you ask for a van or go there by habal-habal aka motorcycle). The price difference between hotel and Agoda rates can already cover the van and some meals at the hotel. Location -- this is a lovely place, the beach is so clean, the water is so clear. Walk a bit to the area where there are no rocks and you can swim to your heart's content. Wade to the hut in the middle of the sea and snorkel (we didn't get to do this bit because we thought it was just a hut, apparently there's a ladder going down where you can view the fish and marine life). Travel time to this place requires patience though -- from Davao city there are several options to get to Pangubatan -- via Sta. Ana Wharf or Sasa Wharf, and an hour or so ride. It's worth it though. Cleanliness -- very clean, the design of the cottages are well-thought-out. Staff -- Jeff is the name of the staff that was very hospitable. I think they are low on people right now, and they cook your food when you order. So order your food in advance and tell them what time you would be having your meal, so they can prepare it and you can have more time by the beach than waiting for your food. You can also request to have them serve the food by the tables by the beach. Facilities -- there's no swimming pool, and there's no need for it. Wifi is great, the cabanas and cottages are free to use, there are common washrooms and baths near the beach.

A place to relax ”
We had a good stay. It could have been better if we stayed longer so that we could have enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere there. The place is very remote and far from both wharf in Samal Island (Kaputian Island Wharf and Babak Wharf). We traveled for almost 2 hours from Davao City and a portion of the road is not yet cemented. We felt that the travel was really long. But it was worth it. The room was okay, food was okay, service of staff is very good. I like the lounging chair near the beach shore. There were several cottages to just laze around. During the island hopping, they assigned 1 resort staff to be our life guard, really nice service from them.

Friendly, quiet, accommodating.”
We booked the night before. I contacted the contact person the following morning regarding the check in. (We were late because check in was 12nn, we arrived at around 2:30 to 3pm). As we were traveling by bus (going to kaputian worth 50php/head) to the Holy Infant Gas station by the bus terminal in the remote island, i am very glad there was a signal, and i was able to call the contact person for a paid shuttle to pick us up there. However she failed to let me know if the shuttle would indeed pick us up. Me and my friends, 9 in total ended up riding a motorcycle or Habal-Habal at 60php/head versus the island garden shuttle worth 500 fitting all 9 people because it is a crosswind. Some were not very sure of the safety of a Habal Habal through the mountains for 30mins. But being in a province, that is their mode of transportation and it became an adventure for me. Personally i enjoyed the Habal Habal. Anyway upon arrival to the resort, I was relieved that after the habal habal, is the resort. It was lovely and i like that it is by the beach. They have a bar and the Cignal TV cable that 5 people can connect to the wifi. The dormitory room have bunk beds that fits 10 people (one bed each) and it is air conditioned. (The room style fits the place being in a beach too.) We did not have restroom problems and water runs fine. The staff offered me a discount of a 100php on the ride back to the port now for 1000 pesos because its all the way to the port for the following day because of the trouble we had going there. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating too. (We were also lucky, that we saw a pawikan trying to lay her eggs! The people were just all snooping that's why she went away.) Overall i am glad for a safe (no abductions happened) and enjoyable by the beach trip!

The best resort on Samal Island.”
This resort is a little slice of paradise. It is serene, beautiful, well-maintained, and well-managed. It is the only resort on the East side of Samal Island, where the ocean water is much cleaner. Resorts on the West side of Samal island have a lot of trash in the water from Davao. If you plan on visiting Samal Island, do yourself a favor and stay here.

Superb!”
We strongly recommend this place to couples who would like to spend their time in a very romantic place. People are very friendly and they ensure that they deliver excellent service. We would definitely go back and stay in the hotel again in the future. Kudos to the staff of Island Garden Resort in Pangubatan

Fantastic, Romantic Getaway”
This is our second time staying at Island Garden Resort. It was just as wonderful as the first time. We stayed in both the treehouse, and the air conditioned room. The treehouse was an amazing, romantic experience that is completely unique to anywhere that I have stayed previously. I am excited to stay there again in July. We love the air conditioned room. It is wonderful as well. The food is fantastic, the staff are so friendly and attentive, the prices are reasonable, and the beach and ocean are pristine. We have already booked to come back and stay in July. We are also planning our wedding here in September (the date has moved up from November). The manager (Merlin) and his wife are so friendly, helpful and accomodating. The staff really goes above and beyond to ensure that everything is perfect. This is our special, romantic paradise spot, and we hope to return many more times. Thanks to the staff there and see you next month :)

Awesome Davao Experience”
This is our first Mindanao trip, and the stay at the Island Garden Resort made our 9th Anniversary, very special. The treehouse was lovely, the sound of waves and cool breeze serve as lullaby during night time. Even though the signal and internet connection was not stable, just the beauty of the place will make you fall in love with the resort. Special mention to Christian (booking specialist) who assisted and entertained our queries before our stay, to Kuya Aying- the habal habal driver who made the rough road trip, bearable and safe, to Jan-Jan who accompanies us in our snorkeling activity even though waves were so high, and lastly to JEFF who made sure all our needs and expectations were met. The place was lovely, but the best thing they have is how good the people (staff) are! Will definitely come back to this resort, and hopefully they'll have more options in their menu. 😄

A peaceful gateway”
This was the best experience we could imagined, plannning to stay in a cottage next to the beach. The resort is beautifully located in a quiet region of Samal Island. Sleeping in a cottage was a great experence, the room was clean and cosy. The staff, especially Jeff was great, very welcoming and helpful all the time. The food was delicious and the portions were enough to feed two people, everything fresh and local. I would definitely recommend this resort if you want to get away from it all and just enjoy the moment.

my review”
We enjoyed five days at Island Garden Resort. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly and arranged motorcycle hire for us to visit other local areas. They were also helpful and considerate with transport arrangements to and from the resort. It is a peaceful place set on a very scenic beach, which is a little rocky in places where one swims but there are sandy areas if you investigate. We were told that there was good coral areas suitable for snorkeling at either end of the beach but when we visited in July it was somewhat windy and the the sea was rough at times so we didn't get to verify that. The food is good but a slightly larger menu could be helpful for a longer stay. We would visit again.

Go there now when it is still tranquil”
Others here have already said a lot about the place. Yes it is nice, friendly people and pleasant landscaping, and at this moment it is still quiet and peaceful. Very remote location, you WILL need their expensive shuttle to get there from the Kaputian jetty. The Fan-cottages are good value for money, much more so than the AC-units which are not near the sea. Food is good and the prices acceptable. Management somehow inexperienced in hospitality but very adoptive and flexible and listening to guests suggestions. Sadly, the sea is not swimmable – very very rocky, plus – at least a few hundred Meters North where we walked one afternoon – there are thousands of sea urchins hiding in and between the rocks, so watch out or u will be stung. They have big plans for their resort but I assume the peace and tranquility they actually want to retain (and there are many signboards in the resort reminding people to avoid noise and be considerate) will be a thing of the past then. They are already building a lot more cottages on a hill across the road, where they will have a Pool (with slides, which means hordes of screaming and yelling local kids, who will annoy the overnight guests) plus even a Zipline going from the hill to the seafront. It seems the place could easily become an amusement park in the future (they already have a canopy walk on the premises). Another very irritating fact is, that they still feel the need to cater to local “daytrippers”, even though there are already plenty of other low-budget places in the vicinity catering to this group of customers. Which for example means that if you are an overnight-guest, you will probably see all those nice sunbeds taken over in the morning already by local families who rent those for a handful of Piso. Particularly as the number of overnight-guests will double, considering the many new Cottages that are being constructed on the hill at this moment. Plus those daytrippers are invariably noisy, so the peace will fade away.

Relaxing fun in the sun”
Absolutely amazing, don't be discouraged by its remote location and honeymoon feel you get from other reviews we had a fantastic time, went scuba diving, explored the island both by foot and motorcycle, got to see bat caves, waterfalls, went island hoping etc.. All of which the staff help us set up. Very reasonably priced we were both under budget by the time we came home even though we did something everyday plus food and transportation. The local people are amazing, I highly recommend you venture outside the hotel and meet the locals, we got mangos, bananas, some other local homemade food given to us. Everyone was extremely hospitable and friendly. Get a massage! It was amazing and again very reasonably priced. I can't say enough good things about this place. We stayed at the treehouse but there are other options, the food was good, the place is very well kept and by speaking with staff they are working on adding more amenities. There is wifi for those of you that need to be connected with the world. I highly recommend this place

Relaxing, Romantic beach front with great staff!”
My girlfriend and I had a fantastic stay at the resort. The staff are extremely helpful and attentive, and are so friendly. I almost felt embarrassed because we were so spoiled. The european manager (Merlin) and his wife were so great and attentive as well. The prices were very reasonable and we even got a discount on our return transit. Merlin and I exchanged many emails leading up to our visit, and he was so helpful and friendly in making sure that we had everything we could possibly want/need. They're even helping us plan our wedding at the resort in November!! The resort itself is wonderful. The gardens are lush and the ocean is right there. The beach is beautiful with extremely clear water, and canoe type boats that we could use free of charge. There was also a floating raft/gazebo to swim/paddle out to which was great to relax and swim off of. The scenery was incredible as well. Despite being in an extremely remote location, I could still watch NBA playoff basketball on the big screen at the outdoor bar. Wonderful! It took me a bit to get used to no hot water and bad water pressure, but I have learned that that is the norm in the Philippines. Needless to say, we have already rebooked to return in June and in July! Thanks again for the wonderful food, service, sun, beach and romance. It is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, or to enjoy with your family. :)

A peaceful weekend indeed”
This resort is a gem. I've always wanted a treehouse facing a beach front. I booked this resort because I wanted to get away from the crowds, the night parties, and simply enjoy a pre-holiday weekend. I saw they had a couple of tree houses and I was sold. Going to the resort is the hard part, but is easily worth it. The resort is very quiet, tucked away from the busy resorts of Samal. The beach has white sand, albeit a bit rocky for serious swimmers, but perfect for chilling. A few meters away from the shore lies a floating bar that is perfect with a few drinks in hand. The staff are some of the warmest people I've met in all my travels locally and abroad. The restaurant is good, offering nice Filipino/Asian fusion cuisine. And the tree house is just great. I lied down and just let the waves put me sleep. Outside the tree house is a couple of hammocks, and a couple of recliners perfect for reading your favorite paperbacks while listening to your music. Highly recommended. Will definitely go back.
