Beautiful hilltop ocean views ”
The Islanda hotel is a lovely property on a small hill with an incredible view. It is quiet, unassuming and relaxing. The pool is lovely. The staff are all fantastic and make you feel at home. Koh Mak is a beautiful peaceful place to spend some time and this property is a good base for doing so.
Fantastic hotel with astonishing view”
islanda is more a hotel than a resort with great rooms, the most fantastic view from the restaurant area and infinity pool. the staff is really nice and the owner is a super enthousiastic women willing to help with everything. arrange your trips (diving, snorkeling, cooking class, boat, transfer etc) with her so you can save your cash for on the island as there is no atm. hotel bill can be paid with visa. location is not at the beach, but we found this an advantage as there are less sandflies. walking to the south beach is 5-10 min. walking to north beach is closer, just go to cococape resort and walk through to the beach. snorkeling is quite nice there also (at the pier and rocky area next to it).
New Boutique Hotel with a Modern Touch”
(NOTE: Stay here during slow season) Amazing to have this small modern hotel on a remote island like Koh Mak. Modern room with all the trimmings (hot shower;satellite TV; free wi-fi,infinity pool..) True, it has to have the best view on the island; however,to get to the beach it is a 15 minute walk away from your area. Also (detail here)if I was the architect-designer of the hotel,I would have placed the length of the hotel (rooms) facing the beautiful sea instead side-ways. I would have place the pool in front of the hotel,& the restaurant on top (4th floor). But designers many not understand that people like privacy. From you balcony you can see the sea at an angle and into your neighbor balcony, (poor design). From your balcony you look over the pool, and to the restaurant. Not much privacy, but this is a minor detail for some people. So, no privacy on the balcony, people at the open air restaurant, infinity pool can look up and see you including your neighbors in the next room. I like privacy when I am on the balcony. So I give the architect low marks when designing the layout. It is a small plot of land but the 6 rooms on each floor could have faced the sea instead of sideways. It was slow season but... the restaurant staff should be trained better in how to take care of customer. You do not deliver a plate of rice before you place the eating utensils or placemat. (DUH) You do not sit there and look at your phone making the customer wait to order another dish or beer. The food was excellent when it was delivered, but the restaurant lacked professional training. Sad for such a classy place. --but this is Thailand and most Bangkok owners do not believe in paying good salary for good staff or doing good training. They think staff will learn through osmosis. The manager (Thai woman that spoke good English ) was above the norm-fantastic. I even saw her helping out in the restaurant and mopping the deck after the rain. That is a good manager!!!!!
Best on Ko Mak”
I stayed here last week, and I enjoyed this resort and also Ko Mak. The views are amazing, the staff are all wonderful. The pool is just perfect, same as in the photos. This would be the best resort on Ko Mak. I took a Thai cooking class at "Smile Ko Mak" cooking school, and it was well worth doing. You can hire a scooter from the resort which is a good idea, so you can look around the island. The only downside is the pool closes at 7pm, I think 8pm would be better, also there are no English channels on the TV, but these are not major issues. I am sure you will enjoy this resort and the lovely staff as much as I did.
This was our first stay at Islanda and we based our expectations on their website. The resort mostly lived up to its advertising with some exceptions. Pluses: undoubtedly the best pool view on the island...we could have just stared for hours and did. Staff was very friendly and polite even with some language barriers. They often went out of their way to send us to different sites and sounds on the island. Our room, which was on the back side (garden view) was very clean with great a/c Location: very well located near the junction of two streets that lead everywhere on the island. You are about 10 to 15 minutes walk to several bars and resorts. Quiet: extremely quiet even for a quiet island almost to the point of needing some noise. Negatives: swim up bar doesn't exist period Some of the pool feature (dragon fountains) haven't apparently worked for a long time The owners/staff were really strict about keeping the place clean and controlled with lots of notes and rules..
Clean and Pleasant with Helpful Staff”
We spent three nights at Islanda Resort and found it quite agreeable. Wonderful view from the restaurant and pool. Staff was very helpful. We were given free tickets for the boat to Koh Kham. The hotel does sit atop a small hill and the return walk from the nearest beach entails a steepish ascent for about the last 100 meters or so.
Stunning views and great rooms”
We enjoyed our 3 night stay at the resort. The view from the pool and restaurants area is just mind-blowing. Every day we were so amazed by how beautiful this island and the surroundings are. The owner lady is very energetic and friendly and she helped us a lot throughout our stay (for example when we needed to see the island doctor for a small health issue). We had dinner in the restaurant twice and they catered to our special requests (vegan) by making us delicious fried rice with tofu and veggies as well as fresh spring rolls. The smoothies were delicious too! We thought the prices in the restaurant were fine compared to other places on the island. The room is not brand new but it's nice enough. You get a private balcony with the cheapest room which we enjoyed. The bathroom is quite big and the room had everything we needed (fridge, AC, mirrors, shelves, lamps etc). Daily cleaning was convenient and the staff did a great job. A few things could be improved: - The bathroom needs a fan! There was no air circulation whatsoever in the bathroom which was annoying - The walls are paper thin and we could hear our neighbors every night and morning. When staff was cleaning the rooms close to ours, we could hear them talk loudly at 9am which was not very relaxing. - Smoking should be forbidden by the pool and in the restaurant. The wind blew the smoke towards us and it was not pleasant. Apart from that, we had a really relaxing and great stay and would stay here again! (note: on our last day, some obnoxious Germans checked in. they didn't know we understand/speak German as well and talked loudly about the staff and owner and were just rude. They tried to get cheaper prices for massages and shuttles which can be booked through the hotel - we were so embarrassed! Thailand is not all about getting cheaper and cheaper prices and haggling everywhere. I personally think it's much more important that all staff gets paid fair wages and that they do their job and enjo
We stayed at Islanda for 5 nights. We found the resort to be lovely with awesome views. The staff were really helpful and kind. We forgot our charger and they had it returned to us on Koh Chang. We would stay here again.
Lovely Hotel with amazing staff”
Our stay at Islanda resort was absolutely wonderful! The staff was super service minded, so helpful with everything and great with our 13 months year old daughter. The location was perfect with lovely surroundings. A short walk to the beach and near-by restaurants.
Best staff ever!”
Beautiful hotel, located between northern-west and southern beaches of Koh Mak. This hotel has the BEST STAFF that I've experienced - very helpful, honest, especially staff manager! I hope I could visit this place again.
Nice stuff and fantastic view ”
It felt that I was home at Islanda Resort. Not child kindly, but nice for two adults. + Very kind stuff. + Fantastic view from restaurante and pool
Very good hotel”
We had a very pleasant stay, the staff is really helpful, the pool is great and the view from the resort is amazing. The only downside to our stay was that we wanted to stay longer but then the price went up by 50%. According to the front desk at the first of November high season starts. We were at some point the only guests and when we left maybe 3 out of 18 rooms were booked. But the lady at the front desk still couldn't extend our stay for the same price. We took a resort at the other side of the island for the last two days at less then half of the price of this resort. I checked availability and the suite was always available for the two nights we wanted to extend.
Great view, friendly staff, very clean ”
The view was impressive. The place itself was very clean. Just prepare for big mosquitoes on the island. If you can ride a motorcycle, you will have a wonderful time . You can explore the whole island. There are many activities to do, going to Koh Kham is suggested, beautiful place, especially my almost 3 years old son could enjoy the beach there (no beach at the hotel). The outstanding thing for us was the staff. At the hotel, they were great, especially Khun Noy at the front desk. She was full of information. Lastly,on the way back , in the boat in the middle of the ocean, we just realized we took everything out from the safe but the car key. I made a call and it went through the main office in BKK, the lady (maybe the manager) was so helpful. She took care of the problem for us. Finally, our car key arrived with the last boat of that day and we only had to wait on the land less than an hour. Wonderful people!
A great place to stay”
Everyone was very accommodating and friendly, and it was worth far more than we paid. It's a fairly small place so there isn't the oppressive mega-resort feel to it. Since it was recently built, everything is new and clean and we had no problems with mosquitos indoors. There is also a free shuttle service to and from the pier, and they were waiting for us when our boat docked even though we hadn't notified them of our arrival time. They speak good English as well, and the restaurant food is good and moderately priced with a bit variety of dishes. Finally, the mattress was fairly comfortable as compared to other Asian hotels I've stayed in, and it's an easy walk to anywhere else on the island. The only downside is that they only had internet in the lobby, and a weak wifi signal at that.
Great Views, Clean Rooms, Nice modern resort”
Overall really nice place with friendly staff. It's a short walk to a couple of the beaches and the main road but it is nice to have such a great view from the top of the hill at breakfast. Rooms were really clean and pool deck was great to relax on when you wanted a change from the beach. We had some problems with the air conditioning but staff swapped our room for us. There are probably a lot of cheaper places to stay on Koh Mak but this would definitely be amongst the best finished.
Best view on Koh Mak”
We have been to this resort for the third time ... it simply has one of the best view on Koh Mak.
The resort is situated well for access to the beaches of Ao Kao or Ao Suan Yai, maybe a ten minute walk either direction. The view is excellent for dining. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Islanda is amazing. Peaceful, best views on the island, staff are lovely.
Beautifull Resort, far away from the Beach”
The Resort is magnificent, in design, style and comfort. The view from the Hotel is beautiful. The Service is above expectations. However the location, considering the beach is important for your stay, is not good. The closest beach is 15 min away down a steep hill, which when coming back is quite tiring, and is a private access only. The published fotos give the wrong impression about this. Another point to be advised is the steep fare for the speed boat from the mainland (the only way to go), which in our case (2 adults, 1 Child) was more that the daily rate at the hotel.
Quiet and romantic with outstanding seaview”
We had a quiet and nice stay at Islanda. The staff really gave good service and the food was nice too. The seaview from the pool or restaurant or balcony were very nice. Me and my girlfriend were there to get engaged and we had a very romantic couple of Days. If something negative, not so easy to get down to beach, but for us the pool was enough.
