Dark and dingy rooms, would not return”

Whilst the building is beautiful and the location is great, we would not return. Several problems: - We booked and paid in full a few months in advance only to arrive and be told the room type we booked was unavailable and as a couple, we were given a room with two beds. The receptionist would only offer for us to check availability again the next day - Room was dark and dingy with only a small window that looks into an adjacent room at the hotel. Combined with paper thin walls there was limited privacy and even with all the lights on it was too dark - Bathroom was tiny and shower had blocked drain. Shower was fixed on the second day but there are backpacker hostels with better bathrooms - The aircon roars loudly like industrial machinery. Lucky the weather end of January when we stayed didn’t really require aircon but summer in Mexico City is very hot and it would be impossible to sleep in that room Overall feel ripped off / poor value for the price paid and would look for a different hotel next time in Mexico City.

All started at check-in, I booked a room on Agoda which was different than the one they wanted to give me (another category). They wanted to downgrade me saying that the room I booked on Agoda is different than the one they got in their system… so they asked me to pay more from my pocket. Of course this was not fair and they didn’t even try to call Agoda while I was desperate since I was not able to reach them. I changed various number with different country and finally I could talk to an agent who tried to solve the issue but couldn’t. So I had to wait 3 hours in the lobby, they didn’t even bother give me a coffee or suggest to give me the room in the meantime we solve it. Anyways at a moment I decided to pay the difference because I was tired and they didn’t wanted to refund me since it was non-refundable. I got the suite which was almost 500 usd per night and I was staying 3 days BUT despite the size of the room, the AC was super noisy, the furnitures old, amenities not everywhere, it was smelling weird like humidity and the mini-bar was locked. When I ask the staff who come in the room, he said that i need to pay an extra deposit in order to open it which is somehow very funny to consider that a client paying 500 usd per night which for this hotel is the top category would not pay a 2 usd coke in the minibar…whatever I had to go down just for that and I must precise that I already had an other deposit for the room. I had no special attention from the hotel for my whole stay and most of staff were very cold some didn’t even bother to smile or to answer my greetings, I was kinda shocked. The hotel itself is not well maintained. It’s a pity because it could be much nicer but they don’t care about the details. My room was very far and the elevator not working or very slow when it was and indications very bad. I think if you have the curiosity to see the hotel, you should just go there for a lunch. Only the lobby worth the visit. Breakfast was limited, staff not at

Poor Service ”

Small room, upon check in no toilet amenities whatsoever in the bathroom, opps....one left over shampoo, called to request, waited 30 mins, no feedbackl, i went down to the front desk to request by myself. It shouldn't happened in this establishment.

Grand Hotel with a Great Story - Almost Ruined by Staff Member”

Positives - Really nice stately hotel. Room was nice adequate space. Close to great restaurants. Negatives - Street noise at night from nearby bars. At check-in I asked to open an account to charge items like restaurant, etc. Clerk affirmed. After dinner and signing a chit, the waiter literally chased me through the lobby saying that I didn't have signing privileges. Pretty embarrassing. eh??

Such an amazing hotel. Full of history and beauty. Get a suite and soak it up. The king size bed was one of the best ever. I have stayed here several times and constantly dream of the place - fantastic.

Photogenic hotel, nice history, value for money ”

We enjoyed our stay here, we stayed for 5 nights. The hotel is 110 year old, it has its charm. We love the lobby interior but It is more like a 3.5 star hotel not 5.

The Geneve is an old friend. I first stayed there in the early 1970s and repeated my visits to the hotel several times in the following decade. I had not been back for at least 30 years, but I wanted to make a last trip to Mexico City and relive some youthful experiences, so I chose the Geneve for a couple of nights. I was not disappointed. The hotel has aged more gracefully than I have and I enjoyed my brief stay. The staff was very helpful, the room was comfortable, the ambiance pleasant. I don't prefer flashy and sparkly places, so the Geneve is the sort of hotel I really enjoy. If you find you are willing to get around the city by Metro and learn the system (really pretty easy) and the best times to travel, the Geneve is within a short walk to the Insurgentes station. If you are a tourist who wishes to use other sightseeing arrangements, the helpful staff can arrange things for you. I'm happy to report that over the years the Geneve has maintained excellent standards.
