Wonderful Experience!”
The place was fabulous. Great location, intimate, quiet and friendly. From the Guesthouse, you can walk 1 minute to reach a little food place, and boil the eggs into the hot spring water. highly recommended!

Beautiful cozy place to stay”
I used a private room, very comfortable, stylish and clean. Despite there was no private WC or shower, there are 3 small but really nice onsen that can be used privately.

Not many choices if you're hiking Kumano Kodo. Wasn't thoroughly impressed with this place but it is what it is.

A great affordable spot on the Kumano Kodo”
Yunomine Onsen was a great little town along the Kumano Kodo. We stayed here an extra night for a rest day after some big miles on the days before. J-Hoppers was a busy, but fun hostel that was a nice change from the mostly quite expensive options along much of the KK. The baths were EXCELLENT and the kitchen and food options were great as well.

One of the best places I stayed in Japan!”
After hiking all day on the Kumano Kodo, we were so happy to arrive at J-Hoppers Yumione Onsen! The private onsen was wonderful medicine for our tired muscles. The staff was so nice in accommodating our request for an extra night! The space in our private room was generous and clean. The kitchen was great and we were glad to be able to buy snacks from the lobby since there isn't much in town. I would highly recommend.

Happy haven in idyllic mountain hideaway”
Not knowing what to expect from the village, we were pleasantly surprised and especially delighted with our guesthouse which was luxurious with its own 3 onsen (1 even outside), huge communal living space and nice kitchen. Everything was really new but they had preserved the traditional charm of the previous ryokan perfectly to create an authentic Japanese space with all the comforts you could need- they even have food for sale at very reasonable prices as there isn't much in the way of restaurants in yunomine itself. The room itself was very clean with a nice view, plenty space and comfortable beds. We had a lovely couple of days between walks resting up and treating ourselves in this place. I Can't recommend the staff highly enough- a warm welcome, super helpful advice on activities and practical travel information, thank you so much, the perfect end to our holiday.

Clean, friendly, and quaint ”
So far as a budget traveler in Japan this has been my favorite place to stay in Japan. Yunomine Onsen is a really cool little town and walking over to Kumano Taisha Hongu was easy and fun. Now as far as the hostel went, I loved it. Two onsens (one outdoor, two indoor), clean bathrooms, spacious bed cubbies, they sold food, sold beer, free coffee, and rice was made at 6am and 6pm everyday. They people who ran it we're superb and I will be coming back for sure on my next Japan trip!!

Exceptional”
We spent just one night here but wish it could have been longer. Perfectly situated in Yunomine Onsen and in the centre of Kumano Kodo hiking. The facilities were clean and quiet and the onsen meant you didn’t even have to leave to soak and relax. I would recommend checking out the town too with the excellent onsen and delicious onsen eggs. The staff were so helpful and polite also. We hope to return here in the future.

Excellent hostel in limited village”
This hostel is small, quiet and there is always an available onsen bath to use. The staff are very helpful and arranged a taxi for us the next day, as well as guidance on possible walks. The lack of hot meal was a real consideration for us, after a long day of hiking. There is only one restaurant in Yunomine after all (by the temple in the village - closed on Mondays and Thursdays). We ended up eating in the restaurant, but most people in the hostel cooked meals using the pasta and sauce / packet curry mixes provided in the hostel. Kitchen facilities are nice and big enough for more than a few people to cook. And because people are tired from hiking, it's a very restful place to sleep! By far the cheapest place to stay on the Kumano Kodo.

affordable rate for a great experience”
Guesthouse is around 3-min walk to the Tsuboyu, the public cooking basin, and the bus stop although you have to climb some stairs. If you continue climbing up past the guesthouse you will end up at the beginning of the Dainichi-goe trail. Staff are friendly and willing to help. They have nice selection of snacks, food, and drinks for sale. They have free rice for everyone starting at 6 pm and you can buy some curry, wild boar meat, sardines - vegan options available. You can mingle with other guests in the kitchen and the dining area. Dorm space is clean and not that small. There are three private onsens - small, medium sized ( good for 2), and an open air one. Here is where you take a bath - usually gets busy before dinner but very nice to soak into in the early morning. Shared toilet. There's a shared space (3 sinks) where you can wash your face, brush your teeth, and dry your hair.

Unique hostel with on-site onsen”
Stayed here for two lovey nights mid-way through the Kumano Kodo, which is notoriously hard to book affordably as a solo traveller, so this hostel was a welcome respite for both weary muscles and my pocketbook. That they have three onsens on-site was such a luxury!

Lovely stay!”
We stayed at J-Hoppers for one night. It was great, especially the (private&outside) Onsen. Futonbeds are comfy and you can buy some basic ingredients to cook dinner yourself. The rice porridge for breakfast was yummy (bring bananas to make it tastier). Enjoy!

Very entertaining evening with host.”
Host has a 30 inch TV (?) with a netflix subscription. As terrace house is very popular amongst such travellers and stay type, it was played during my stay and everyone had an enjoyable time discussing about the show and exchanging of newbie japanese language. Host is proficient in english and share rooms were really clean with tatami mats. Has 3 onsen rooms on first come first serve basis, but you have to pay onsen tax separately from your booking on agoda. Outdoor onsen is clean and enjoyable. Host provides free rice from 6-10pm so you just need to bring canned food or instant noodles.
