nice room, attentive staff”
My wife and I stayed at J8 for 14 nights with the intent of exploring Singapore. We don't mind a short walk and there are 2 train stations and several bus stops within 5 minutes of the hotel. This made it very easy to get to anyplace we wanted to go. Singapore is very safe, so taking public transportation any time, day or night is not a problem at all. J8 includes a nice breakfast every morning. While we were learning the public transportation systems, the staff helped us to choose the better routes to get to our destinations. While in Singapore, I contracted dengue fever - probably from a mozzie bite in the Maldives, as the symptoms hit shortly after we arrived in Singapore. I ended up in the hospital and the hotel staff helped out my wife as she shuttled back and forth between J8 and the hospital. Muyan from the front desk even stopped by the hospital to see how I was doing - try to find a hotel in the States where that would happen! We had a balcony room. It's small by American standards but clean and neat. The bed was comfortable and the A/C worked well. It did take a bit of work to get our luggage stowed around the room, (we had a chunk of SCUBA gear) but once it was stowed, it all worked out. I wouldn't recommend this room for families with kids - too small - but for my wife and I, it was perfect. We had a table and chairs on the balcony where we could sit in the evening and enjoy the view before going to bed. The area around the hotel is quiet and safe. Check out the fresh squeezed Orange Juice machines near the hotel - $2 SD for a cup of fresh squeezed OJ! We would definitely stay here again.
Very clean & comfortable budget hotel in Singapore”
We are a couple from the US that stayed in this hotel. The things that we consider in booking this hotel is its cleanliness and near MRT stations. We were so happy to see that even though the rooms are quite small compared to the hotels in US, they were clean especially the bathroom. The linens and towels were being replaced everyday and you can leave valuables in your room without fear of loosing it. The hotel manager and assistant manager by the name of Jasmund Toh and Gary Puan are very attentive to their guests' needs. Also, their receptionist Farrah and the rest of the staff in their cafeteria are very helpful and accommodating. Me and my fiancée stayed here for a week from April 13-19, 2014 and we liked the simple and yet nutritious breakfast that they served and comes free with the hotel booking. I have lots of friends and relatives from the US and the Philippines who would want to visit Singapore and I would definitely recommend this hotel. This is rated a 3 star hotel but based on my experienced, I would rate it a 5. Big and expensive hotels doesn't necessarily mean that they give the best service. A new hotel like J8 and its accommodating staff will definitely be worth your stay in Singapore... Thanks so much, Ronald & Mitch from Los Angeles
The J8 hotel is not IDEALLY located per se. But the MRT is a 3 mns walk, and the staff will be glad to call a taxi for you. The staff is great. Smiling, available and really helpful. Well, some are not that great so you'll probably end up having your favourites. The managers are really friendly too. It's really close to the city square mall when you'll find some restaurants/food courts, shops, a cinema... Plus you're just 2 stations away from Dhoby Ghaut and 3 from Clarke Quay. There's also the Mustafa center (3 mns walking distance). The area is really quiet. The meals are great. I stayed at this hotel for more than 2 weeks, and tried different rooms. The Deluxe gold is a really good value for money if you make your reservation via Agoda. It's quite spacy, the bathroom is great (With FULL utilities provided every day such as toothbrush, Q-tips, soap and shampoo, nail file, etc...) and the bed is really comfy. The desk is really big too. There's no wardrobe but you have a little space where you can hang your jackets. The plus: There's a fridge with snacks in it. It's not replenishable except for 2 bottles of water per day. You'll also find a safe and a LCD TV. The balcony room is a little bit more expensive but you can get great deals with agoda. It's quite the same as the Deluxe gold. The room is a little bit bigger, and there are more snacks. But you also have access to a balcony where you can have your coffee or even work. If you want to go to this hotel, please avoid the basic single room which is really small, the air con is noisy and the bathroom is just STUPID. You have the sink on one side, the toilets on the other, and the shower in the middle with no curtain. You will put water EVERYWHERE since it's tiny. I stayed one night in that one. Never again. Anyway, I really enjoyed my stay there. I would totally recommend it. Just avoid the smallest rooms !
Small but spacious Hotel”
We stayed with J8 for 4 nights. Checked in and checked out was fast. I didn't encountered any trouble with this hotel- I have sent them email regarding my booking via agoda and they replied right away taking note of my special requests which was all granted. All the staff is friendly and always have smile on their face. They have informed me that if we need to fix our room we need to inform them before 5 pm for the following day - I never told them even once but when we got from our tired feet the room is clean with 2 bottles of water and fresh towels. My only concern is the limited choices for breakfast most of the time I feel like I'm eating snacks rather than breakfast- I hope they conceptualize a better breakfast menu. But over all..Great job J8!! I will definitely recommend you to my friends who will be visiting SG. Thank you for our wonderful stay :)
I did not encounter any problems with my stay at J8 Hotel. The room is exactly the same shown in the pictures. Hotel staff are very accommodating. Location is good as it is near the Lavender MRT station. Bed is comfortable and the room is very clean. This hotel is highly recommended to those looking for a budget hotel to stay in SG.
We had a nice time at the J8 hotel. Although the room was small it had everything we required. The staff were very friendly. They were happy to store our luggage prior to check in and after check out (without any additional charge). Therefore we were able to do a city tour / shopping and not have the headache of pulling our baggages along. The hotel is about a 7-10mnt walk form the lavender MRT station and is also about a 5 minute walk to Mohamed Mustafas. Will defenitely stay in this hotel whenever we visit singapore.
Great 2 nights, not difficult to find. Arrived late evening (had requested late check in) the lady on reception could see we needed some rest and sped up the process. Lobby to room 5 mins. The room is the standard size for most places We've stayed in sg before but the light colourful decor, high ceilings (patio room was on the attic floor) and surprisingly spacey balcony made it more comfortable by a long way. If you want to guarantee a window and a nice stay I recommend the patio room. Breakfast was promt buffet English breakfast and a complimentary breakfast meal is served to you. There appears to be no choice of what is served to you (spaghetti/ chicken wings/ tuna sandwich) it is a different dish everyday. All the food we ate whether it was complimentary or ordered was good quality and tasty. Dining area is very nice and clean, outside and inside available, as well as a outside smoking section. Outside is very relaxing, although there is nothing in particular to look at the roads surrounding the hotel are peaceful. Worth noting there is a convenience store just a very short walk away. Getting a taxi is as easy as it gets in sg, walk to the next road and flag one down. Under ten dollars to get to most places and eateries around the central district . We will stay here again and would recommend it to couples, there is a small public playground for children but other than that the hotel doesn't really fit the family hotel criteria in my personal opinion. Although I'm sure the staff would make every effort to make all types of guests feel welcome. Wifi is fast, tv is less than basic in terms of channels, no news channel, room amenities were the usual bits and pieces, hair dryer had a kinked cable so would always have to assist. Minibar minimal but enough, there's a safe but in our room it wasn't bolted down, the whole style modern and arty. Overall enjoyed our stay and feel it's underrated at 3 stars.
The best customer services of J8 Hotel”
Only 5 min walk to the Lavender MRT or approx 10 min walk to Farrer Park MRT. It's very convenient and easy find a restaurant along the Maude rd. J8 hotel has the superb breakfast and room services. It's really clean room even the room is quite small (singapor's hotel are small size same like HK). The front staff was very helpful and kind. It's really worthy to stay at J8 hotel. Definitely will come back to stay at there. :)
EXCELLENT SERVICE - RECEPTION”
27 Sept 2019 19:37 hrs I was attended by an Indian Male Staff at the Reception who was on his evening shift who had helped me to upgrade from an earlier booking of Deluxe Gold room to a Family Room in a matter of minutes. It was a last minute decision to get a larger room when my 2 girls decided to tag along. The transaction went on very smoothly without much questioning by the staff. My daughters were so happy that they were able to come down at a later timing on the same day as I wasnt sure if I was able to make a change towards my bookings. A difference for the amount was paid soon after. Over and above, Id like to applaud the service provided by the staff of JB Hotel. Kudos to the mgmt of J8 Hotel in training the staff to have excellent customer service.
since it is just a 3-star hotel. I didn't expect too much at first. but i found that the environment is quiet good. if you need take MRT, just walk around 8-10 mins. the breakfast is delicious which will change everyday. Room, toilet is clean. One more thing. I found that I have left my personal belonging (not very expensive but it is very important and meaningful for myself, actually they can just treat it as a rubbish)when I was watching show at another place (Sentosa). So i sent a email J8 and I got response immediately which told me that they have already kept it and waiting for my call. So I got back J8 to take back my personal belonging at that night. I would like to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
We had stayed in J8 hotel for 5 nights in the Patio room. The staffs were very cordial and allowed us to check-in early at morning 10am. Breakfast were very good and there were a range of breakfast items to choose from. Everyday the housekeepers cleaned our room. Toiletries were provided and there was a mini-bar too in our room. Location was very good as well as 2 MRT stations i.e. Jalan Besar and Lavender were situated at walkable distance. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would like to recommend others too.
Exceeded my expectations”
Even though J8 Hotel is shown as a 3-star budget hotel, their staff and services were well beyond our expectations. The room was not surprisingly small, but they have a decent luggage storage room and they offered us to keep our luggage past our check out time (for the whole day) for free as well. Location wise the hotel is also very well positioned. We highly recommend J8 Hotel.
Hit the Nail”
We stayed three nights at J8 hotel and had a great time in the attic room on level 7. Location was great , staff very helpful and we enjoyed Kallang district very much. Lots of things to do all in closed by proximity and we will be back again.
Great hotel surrounded by good food”
Stayed there for 2 days with a girlfriend for a short getaway. I'm impressed with J8, it's clean and well maintained with helpful and attentive staff. What we really like about this hotel is it's within walking distance to many of local restaurants. That is one famous steamboat just across the road. I would highly recommend this hotel who are on a food hunting trip to Singapore. We enjoyed our stay in J8.
Worst Hotel experience in SG”
I made an early booking for Deluxe Silver with window(city view) about a week earlier to the date of my staycation, but was offered the wrong room. upon check-in at 2pm, the staff just issued me the room number, and did not tell me that the room that i have booked was full house. i wondered how was it even full-house if i had managed to reserve it one week before prior to the date of my stay?? Secondly, when i reached my room, at the attic. it was creepy, with balloons hanging on the ceilings, wall & stairway. then i realised this wasn’t the room that i have paid for. i remembered booking for a room with window. and not living at the attic. so i went down to the reception, and was told that they offered me an upgrade to deluxe gold. i was feeling so uncomfortable that, i do not want an upgrade and wish to remain on what i have booked and paid for. they repeatedly explained that there is no more rooms available and the deluxe silver room that i paid for has NO WINDOWS. i was shocked. and i showed them the photos that Agoda stated. They then claimed that the photos that was listed BY AGODA is not accurate. Following, the staff said that there’s a patio room with balcony available, but i have to top up $20 for the upgrade. Leaving no choice, i took the offer. for i’m already filled with anger, disappointment, fear and helplessness at J8 Hotel. I called the housekeeping for an extra bath towel, when the staff arrive, he just open the door and pass to me. i am surprised. What if i was showering at that time? where’s the privacy? I’m feeling so uncomfortable. Breakfast was ok. reasonable for free of charge for stay-in guests. Overall, i wouldn’t recommend to come back to stay again. Till today, as i’m writing this. i feel the creeps in me experiencing at j8 hotel.
You feel comfortable in the hotel”
Singapore is a small country/city. So location is not really important, however J8 hotel is located in walking distance to Mustafa shopping centre and sim lim tower electronics. Rooms are small, but cosy. You don't have to worry about tooth paste, shaving cream and a razor, everything is included.
We enjoyed our stay here at J8. Staff are friendly and very helpful. We are supposed to have a room without window but we were upgraded to deluxe with window. It was surprising and we were so glad about it. The room is small but fits the two of us. The location is great, very quiet, not much cars. Walking distance to the MRT stations and other places you can go to. A lot of food stalls surrounds the place so you wont get hungry. Breakfast is superb. Love waking up every morning and munching on it. Free flowing coffee, tea and juice as well. Will definitely go back here and thumbs up for J8! Thanks for making our stay convenient and comfortable.
Perfect choice for a budget trip”
We got a nice clean corner room with 2 big windows with a view to interesting old buildings. The stuff was friendly and helpful, everything in the room was quite new and worked well. The hotel is exactly between 2 MRT stations - Lavender (green line) and Farrer Park (violet line), 7 min of walking to any of them. The only thing that was not really good - was breakfast, it's quite poor and not really healthy (fried potato, fish burger etc). But there are a lot of small Indian and Chinese canteens around, as well as Subway, Burger King, McDonald's and other cafe just on the MRT stations. Anyway, i definitely recommend J8.
Loved the hotel and value for money”
I loved staying here at J8 hotel, it was very clean and staffs were very helpful. Breakfast was really good. It’s located in centre of city, where you can access everything(MRT,SBS, restaurants and shopping malls) by walk. I strongly recommend this hotel for other travelers from different countries.
Hotel in Old Malay Area Comes Through”
Despite a bit of an awkward start that featured a locked room safe, no bottled water and a missing electric kettle, this small hotel really came through when it mattered. The hotel has highly dedicated staff and their included breakfast selections, though limited, were well worth the extra money paid versus staying at a comparably priced hotel not offering this money saving service. This was especially important for a destination where hotel pricing, like in New York or San Francisco was, and is, extremely dear. Despite a lack of fitness facilities, the hotel comes extremely highly recommended as it is, at most, a 15 minute leisurely walk to the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit system, the City Square Mall, Little India and the Queen Street termination point for buses over the Singapore-Malaysia Causeway. This includes a local bus that stops at Woodlands Train Checkpoint for railway users. If (and when) I return to Singapore, I thoroughly intend to make a return here - especially with the addition of a new SMRT station due to open in October, 2017.
