Feel free like a century ago”
Leaving on Gran Via is already a right decision for a traveler in Madrid. The street is very beautiful consisting all from a perfect ensemble of beautiful buildings in modern, art deco, mudekhar and Madrid-barrocco styles. The Catalonia Gran Via Hotel comprises a nicely looking construction with preserved interior of the beginning of the XX century. A traveler can feel the breathe of that times indeed. Moreover the hotel has walk distance approach to main sightseeings of the city with numerous shops and taverns on the way. The room was not good, it was just old. It was clean and the cleaning is in the high level actually. But the furniture, decoration, doors etc. are just old. I always ask for a non-smoking room, but this time there were two ashtrays inside; there was no other trace of smoking but... The hotel staff is friendly and ready to give a hand. There are lots of guests in the hotel, but the noise-isolation leaves much to be desired.
I feel satisfied”
Undeniably the best location. Located on main road. A lot of shops and restaurants around. Less than 5 min walk to metro. Hotel facilities and conditions are in a good shape. Rooms are slightly bigger compared to usual European standards. A convenient stay.
It was a good stay except with the problem with the AC”
The AC was not functioning when we enter the room. We called the front desk to fix it. Though it was fixed it was not really at par to what we've expected in terms of the AC considering also that it's summer in Spain.
Great hotel, tiny rooftop pool”
The location was great for going out, however the rooftop pool is so small that it's hard to even lie next to the pool. It's practially the size of a large bath. The staff are however very friendly, hotel of good standards and very clean. Breakfast is cheap but not a great selection.
The hotel, being centrally located, was very convenient for shops, restaurants and places of interest in central Madrid. Everything was within walking distance. The only issue was that we were initially allocated a twin room on the lowest floor, which had a musty smell. We had requested a double. However, when we requested a change the hotel was able to accommodate us on a higher floor with a double room, which was clean and fresh.
Great location and great service.”
We stayed for several days and enjoyed a good room, helpful staff and great drinks and service in the bar, good breakfasts but a very odd main meal menu when we went to the restaurant. Would recommend the hotel but not the restaurant for dinner.
The hotel is very centrally located on the Gran Via and within walking distance to major sights such as Sol, Plaza Mayor, the Prado and Reina Sofia museums. We stayed in a very comfortable and spacious room and found the staff on reception to be friendly and helpful. The only downside was the service in the attached bar/coffee shop - it was slow and unfriendly. But that apart, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and given its excellent location will definitely stay there again.
Pleasant stay with hotel staff rendering friendly services. Small reception area with only 1 or 2 staff on standby. The room is rather small but clean. The room furnishing is pretty alright for the price paid.
A cozy hotel”
The hotel is located in the heart of Madrid. You can easily find restaurants, shops, and metro stations nearby. The breakfast was okay and the room was very clean, and they were kept in a very good condition. However, the door closer was not working for almost every room, whilst the door was not soundproofed. You can hear the "bang" sound when someone closes their room's door, and also the noise from the corridor. It was really frustrated if you want to have a good rest. Besides, the staff at the front desk was not well-trained. One of the lady there did not know anything about the transportation of reaching Segovia and Toledo, even though she apologized for it.
Great location, probably the best location in Barcelona, right next to the Cathedral, and close to La Ramblas and El Born. Great for the subway with Playa de Catalunya just at the top of the street. Beautiful hotel, lovely rooms and the staff were fantastic. The pool isn't huge, but then none of them are in Spain, it's certainly big enough to relax in. Very impressed, hope to return to Barca in the future, and only one place I would stay!
Fabulous hotel, great location ”
This is an excellent hotel for sightseeing in Madrid, the location is close to underground stations, almost directly across the road you have a stop for the hop on hop off sightseeing bus tours, there are plenty of coffee shops, supermarkets and restaurants on the door step although I can recommend the hotel for food. We had dinner one night where I ordered the steak, it came seared on the outside but 'blue' on the inside. They cut it into strips and then placed a hot stone with a heating flame under it so that you cooked your own steak, strip after strip to the exact way you like it , The terraced pool was fabulous, although small, the pool itself was clean and chlorine & chemical free as it is a salt water pool, the concentration of salt is unnoticeable but much better for your skin. The only down side is the toilet roll holders need moved 6 inches back as you have to sit at an angle to use the loo! Room 512, fabulous sound proofing, road works right outside, we didn't hear a thing.
AC not working. outdated rooms. unhelpfull staff”
i had a very bad experience at this hotel . The first night I had to change room because bathroom was so small there was no space to fit my legs when sitting on the WC Next day they moved me to a new room and guess what?, AC not working. And their technician could not fix it. They put a air cooler in the room which made noise but no cooling. Next day I complained to reception Mr Jose Maria was there. He was EXTREMELY RUDE, unapologetic and just would surge his shoulders and said we can't do anything about it I will never ever come to this hotel again My room no. 329
Magnificent, Magical Madrid.”
Amazing architecture, always look up there's so much more to see. Fabulous food. The Palace was breathtaking. A bus tour is a must if you're only there for the weekend. Then choose what you would most want to do and see and hop on and hop off where you want.
I upgraded to get a view of Grand Via. It was worth it because the room was large with lots of light. However! What happened with the bathroom? Sit on the toilet and your knees hit the bidet? Very awkward getting in and out of the tub. Breakfast is excellent.
location is great!”
Pretty good location even though the front was under construction at the time we were there but that didn't affect us from having a nice balcony looking down at gran via. Really close to all the clothes shopping and the metro!
Great Location ”
My stay at the Catalonia Gran Via was very enjoyable .. I wasn't on a 5 star budget and the hotel was value for money and in an excellent location .. I spent very little time in my room or at the hotel .. I was too bysy exploring the fabulous city of Madrid .. I didn't try any of the hotels food outlets or room service there was no need .. The staff were professional , efficient and helpful .. I recomend this hotel highly for its location in Madrid .transferring to and from the airport using the 24 hour Airport Bus was a breeze with just a short 200m walk to the hotel from the bus drop off and pick up point
GREAT LOCATION HOTEL”
This is my first trip to Madrid. I didnt know which hotel to be reserved, my friend suggest me to stay at catalonia gran via hotel, well price is a bit high, but its all worth the trip. i had great time during my stay in madrid. thank you agoda
We very much enjoyed our stay here. The room was clean and quiet, with a use-able, comfortably furnished, enclosed balcony, with opening window, which made the room seem more spacious. The location was great with a variety of restaurants close by. We did not use the hotel restaurant, as it seemed a little expensive. The proximity of great sites to see/visit was wonderful. Our only difficulty was with internet access in our room. The staff at this hotel were attentive and helpful. Altogether a great experience for us; highly recommended.
