If you like camping and want an "authentic" experience then this is for you. If you want luxury service and amenities, go spend 4x as much at a HIlton.
The only good thing about this place is the location. For the same money, you could stay at a nicer place. The staff tried and were friendly, but they just couldn't understand the most basic English. The rooms also haven't been upkept very well and are in a poor condition.
Great location at see local life.”
Always feel locals !
Great Little Spot in the Hutong!”
Crammed and hostile”
When we arrived, having had to navigate through a demolition site, we were "welcomed" by a very disinterested employee who only gave us the wifi password after having to ask her 5 times! (We speak both English and Chinese, so this was not a communication problem). After we got our key we opened the door to a room that was the width of the bed and only a just over the door width longer. We were also surprised to see there was no window in the room, only one in the toilet. On agoda the picture shown for this room has a window in it and also says there is an option for an extra bed in this room, there was hardly room for an extra chair let alone an extra bed. When confronted by this the receptionist just repeatedly asked "do you want an extra bed?". The way it was portrayed on agoda was utterly misleading, and to the extent of lying. The best the receptionist could do was offer us a bigger room for a "little" extra, that "little" being another third of the price. If I'd booked through another site that does not ask for up front payment I would have happily walked out for the loss of a deposit. Other things that would not have bothered us so much if it were not for the above, were the fact the tap was not fitted properly, nor was the toilet seat so both were constantly moving around while being used.
comfortable enough with good access to hutongs”
It was alright. The staff was generally okay although they didn't seem to care a lot about really helping. Noise carries really fast so when people are loud outside every room hears it. Also, the showers were a little grimy with mildew.
Smelly bathroom, dusty room, unlockable window... ”
There are better hutong hotels in the area that are cleaner and a similar price. This place had a layer of dust on everything in the room, cobwebs in the corners, and the bathroom smelled so bad I had to plug my nose when going inside. Forgot to mention, the room's window had no lock or latch, and opened over a neighboring rooftop, so I was afraid to leave valuables in the room when away.
The hotel had no service at all. The room was never cleaned, the toilet paper never replaced, the trash never taken, the door leaked cold air, the room heater was useless, the floor tiles were loose, the water heater had chipping paint on the inside, and the staff was often not there. On top of all of that, I was charged a cancellation fee after staying for four nights. I want that money to be refunded to me immediately. Thank you.
Great room with view, close to metro and to houhai area! Very clean and warm with comfortable double bed. The staff clean our clothes for free! We highly recommend this hotel
Difficult to find but okay once there”
The hotel is not easy to find. It is behind a public bathroom behind construction and looks like a private residence. That said it was okay as a value but there are other options too. It is in a huntong which is good and other Westerners will abound, there is plenty of tourist activity nearby. The hotel can be noisy but isn't a bad choice. Still if I could I would book a better choice closer to the sights or from a budget chain hotel nearby the subway.
Costly for its category ”
At the beginning I didn't like my stay though the room was "OK" but no intimacy. The walls between the rooms are thin and you can hear everything. The hotel could be improved by fixing the bathroom (shower, doors, ...). I didn't have my breakfast here but outside the hotel. The feeling of living in this area was awesome and people are freindly. I was able to rent a bycicle from the hotel and did the lake tour in the evening which was one of my best experience ... it was crazy with all people walking near the lake but it was memorable. In general my stay was OK but when I checked for another hotel for the rest of my stay in Beijing I think for the same price I can have a better room but not the same experience which was typical in that area of Old city.
Superb location, perfect service!”
A warm welcome, value for money, and everything is possible!
Staff was very nice, hotel conditions not so nice”
Definitely not a hotel I would recommend. The rooms were the size of the beds. The bathrooms were behind glass tiles that made my son and I uncomfortable to take showers. It was truly a water closet with the water tank at eye level and the hand held shower head next to the sink & toilet. We just didn't bother to use the shower facilities. We had black mold on the wall by the air conditioning unit by the bed. The pillows were as flat as paper. The only thing that made up for this was the staff was so kind. They felt awful for the conditions. They served us toast/ jam and expresso in the morning for breakfast free of charge. Extremely difficult to find in the dark. We called 3 times while the taxi driver kept circling to find it. Finally the night manager came out to the courtyard of the Hutong to get us.
Great Location, Comfortable Beds and Great Shower”
Nice quiet area. Close to lakes and other popular sites. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
safari in the city”
close to major tourist attractions”
Its location is close to major attractions of Beijing. A lot of choices for dining nearby. Considered cheap. Value for money. The bad point is not easy to find. It's quite a distance from the Metro.
This is a nice place for a short stay ”
Had a good time. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Always willing to help. Room was okay, but no window available if you like windows. Nice cheap place to stay in Beijing, close to subway. The only problems was with slow internet and a little noisy at night. Otherwise, a nice place to stay.
Reservation problems result in overcharging”
When I first arrived, the staff couldn't locate the reservation I had made over a week before on Agoda. I had already paid for 5 nights on Agoda but they had no record of my reservation at all and all the rooms were booked that night. The other four nights of my reservation they had a room open which they gave me, but for the first night, they had no choice but to send me to their other, higher end location. I felt they should have sent me there at no extra charge because this was the result of their mistake, not mine, but they insisted I pay an extra 200 yuan. I argued and argued and it was clear I wasn't going to get anywhere, and didn't relish the idea of trudging around with my suitcase looking for a place on my own, so eventually I talked them into letting me stay at the other hotel for 150, plus free breakfast and cab ride. Other place was indeed nicer, but still frustrated that I had to pay for their mistake. The following four nights at the original place were smooth and no problems. Nice room, great location. Only problem was the air conditioner is located right above the desk, so either you're really cold or really hot, no happy medium.
