Great stay, super comfy beds
Lovely hotel close to malls and ferry”
Classy hotel with nice exterior and interior, very comfortable room. Staff were helpful and location is great. It is within walking distance to the malls and stores. Parking is £10 per day at the hotel. It is within easy reach to th e Red Jet and Red Funnel ferries if you wish to go to Cowes.
This hotel currently has real problems”
They blamed Agoda for not replying to our request for a quiet non-adjoining room whilst every other hotel seems to get these messages - I have made over 300 bookings with agoda. No heating in the hotel room, staff in the lobby bar/restaurant walked out as we were waiting to order (no table service) some teas and coffees. Spoke to the manager and over a period of 4p minutes various staff just about managed to bring 2 teas (with dirty cups, no teaspoons, no sugar) a bit chocolate (powder and water - really low quality) and a cappuccino (no offer of cream, cinnamon or even sugar). Breakfast missing items from their set buffet and items ran out). They seem to be happy that they get lots of guest as a bit hotel in central Southampton and they get the cruise business but they really need to get it together or more customers will be walking out alongside the staff they are very visibly losing. I can't see how they can blame agoda for the mess they are in.
Weekend break grand harbour ”
The hotel is 3 stars, stayed here when it was 5 stars and called the de vere, the hotel requires renovating and the rooms updated, you notice the dirt on the carpets and the breakfast is of poor quality, even the staff admit the hotel has changed hands and gone down hill, at one point the new owners removed the concierge service. This hotel has so much potential, but now urgently requires re investment
Great location, great room but expensive for lack of facility availability & needs some updating”
We stayed for one night, whilst on our way to Beaulieu motor museum. Location was perfect with parking at a cost of £10 per night and our room with a balcony was great. However we booked on the proviso, and paid the additional cost, that we had access to the swimming pool & spa. It's closed for refurbishment and were not told at point of booking and no compensation was offered.....Disappointing...... Hotel was clean, but could do with a bit of love and updating.
Great but not Exceptional”
We were only here for one night so can only judge it on what we experienced overnight in a wet and miserable Southampton. We didn't eat here so please disregard my scoring for the food / dining experience. The hotel feels a little bit claustrophobic and lacklustre. Maybe in the summer with a little bit more natural light I might have felt differently but it did seem somewhat dark in the corridors and room. The room itself was nicely appointed but not exceptionally so. The bar was expensive and devoid of character. However, for all that the hotel is certainly functional and is nevertheless a good 4* but without the little bit extra that would give it that wow factor.
Christmas 4 day stay”
I first staying in this hotel on opening week in 1994 (it was 5 star then). I have returned approx 12 times since. De Vere Group kept with it for approx 16 years and now owned by another Group who have spent 4 million so far on refurbishing. Over this Xmas period there was only the local church choir for entertainment but I have since heard there was a quiz but I never knew. The hotel and room could be cold and the room has very dark lighting. The restaurant one morning for breakfast was freezing and as the tables are marble topped and hot drinks were cold within a very short time and the hotel was nearly full!! That same night the restaurant was nice and warm!! Other than that I would still highly recommend this splendid hotel but a shame that it now costs £10 per night for car parking.
Most welcoming clean tidy hotel. Fine location near to shops entertainment facilities theatres swimming leisure facilities. Ideal for cruise passengers. The high spot were the excellent breakfasts. Unusual but nice to have a freshly cooked ham on offer.
Most pleasureable. Exceeded expectiations.”
We were extremely pleased with this hotel. Upon check-in we were informed that we would be upgraded to a suite which was more than we anticipated. The hotel is in the process of upgrading some issues of maintenance which the previous owners had not taken care of. Overall, the experience was most pleasant and we are grateful to Gabriel for his attentiveness and courteous manner. We wish Gabriel good luck with his promotion.
Nice hotel-well situated-needs updating”
Enjoyable short stay. Excellent staff. Room good size and clean. Poor water supply to bathroom fittings, £10 per day parking fair for the location but addition of £2.50 admin charge for this was unjustified. Only 6 disabled bays available, not enough. Only letdown, small but very annoying, room kettle would not boil water…no morning tea!
Great and amazing ”
Great and interesting stay. The staff are very friendly. Helpful. The location is very good. I like the room and the bathroom. The size and the FURNTURE. The car park is near the hotel. The food and the service in the resturants are great.
Hotel location fantastic”
Although an executive room, the room was a little tired and in need of some refurbishment. The bathroom towel rail did not work and the power lead was loose and exposed - not good in a wet area. The shower cubebicle was mouldy around the door seals and smelt damp. Hair dryer cuts out and emits a burning smell - reception contacted for a replacement - not delivered prior to our departure for dinner engagement (20 mins). Bedroom upholstered chair worn and tatty. Corridor outside bedroom smelt of cigarette smoke. Staff very helpful with Taxis and car park charge. Room excellent size and great view of the cruise ships. Good nights sleep with no disturbance. Hotel location excellent for shopping Nd dining out.
great hotel for pre cruise”
Apart from the slow check in procedure everything was fine - lovely big pool and gym for city hotel. Free wifi throughout hotel and nice buffet breakfast Although check in was 3pm still had to wait for someone to check if room was ready -waited around 15 minutes and front office staff not very friendly
Lovely hotel with amazing rooms”
We were impressed with this hotel and found the food very good quality. The only negative side was the fact that we were charged a 10% service charge on our meal which we didn't expect and we had to pay £10 for parking in the hotel car park which made the special offer we bought a little more expensive than planned.
Lovely hotel but slightly misleading deal”
generally an excellent stay but the residents parking at is more expensive than some other places i've stayed and i really didn't like they way they added service on to you food bill so they try to get you to pay 10% service for what would have been the charge for your inclusive meal. the service was good but at times very slow (the meal took up way too much of our evening) so when i went to check out in the morning i complained that i would not have paid this much, they were very polite and quickly removed it from my bill and i offered to pay half. the food was really good, better than expected. the desserts were to die for, absolutely amazing. the location is great, not far to walk to oxford st for a good night out.
A really nice hotel with lovely rooms”
I really enjoyed my stay at the De Vere Hotel Grand Harbour. We had a town view which was very pleasant. The beds are really comfortable and I got really good sleep. The only problem was that the shower/bath was difficult to work and the shower head was leaking.
Very helpful staff and clean hotel close to the terminal and shops with good parking and off loading for bags and large boxes. The food was good in the resturant with nice service. The steak was heart and wine even better. Beer in the bar reasonably priced
Not Meeting Expectation”
i came to the hotel after a cruise for a night. since the ship was to dock in the morning, i had requested for early check. i was expecting to check in at least at about noon but had to wait till after 3 pm. checking in wasn't satisfactory. rooms were clean. breakfast was one that would be found in any other hotel. location was good, very near the cruise centre. shopping areas were within walking distance.
Not Meeting Expectation”
Rooms named deluxe are no different from those called standard - the difference is the price and you are paying for the same thing! Incredible!! Breakfast nothing great, the usual you will get at any hotel of the same grade. Ferries to the nearby Isle of Wright is near by - there are two terminals with one operating jet-powered boats. Shopping areas are nearby. Coach and train stations are also nearby - about 20 minutes of walking. Shore front in the evening is a nice way to spend the evening.
Acceptable hotel in a convenient location”
i stayed just one night on the way home waiting for a flight. there were lots of cruise ship travellers at the hotel and it has that style. its not really a business hotel. there is no wifi in the room, but it is available for free in the bar. there was no mini-bar. the room was pleasant. nice bed. adequate but old bathroom. good buffet breakfast. in summary it pretends to be a stylish hotel but really isn't much better than a premier inn. go with low expectations and you will not be disappointed
