Elephants, nature, relax lovers place”
I enjoy so much spending time just looking the elephants bathing freely in Nature. The river in front of the swinging pool also a relaxing and romantic panoramic I will surely miss a lot. Food is tasty and very fresh. Massages were amazing good. Music at dinner quite disco-sound but nice! Drinks were reasonable and soft drinks very smooth! If you don’t need Internet much it’s perfect place because sometimes it’s difficult to get speedy wifi. Staff very friendly and helpful with great advice on traveling and even with talking to elephants ! Just great stuff !!
Happy”
We were extremely happy with the location and Superb view ,Very good location to see elephants all along the day, from our room, Staff is very Helpful , Room was very clean,
For relaxing time...”
The place has a stunning view with greenery, water features and pool overlooking the elephants. The staffs are very friendly and approachable. Its a good place to relax and enjoy the view.
Lovely hotel”
The location of the hotel is simply awesome! It's practically next to the river where the elephants from the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage come to bathe everyday 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm. We walked down to the river and was able to have very close encounters with the lovely creatures. The service is good too but no hair-dryer, no kettle, and only one towel was provided when we entered the room and another one was provided only upon request. The breakfast was pretty much the same as breakfast that we had at other hotels/hostels in sri lanka (fruit juice, scrambled eggs, toast, a pot of tea) but the toasts were too hard to swallow.
Good Value and nice perks”
we found the elephant bay hotel a nice value that for the most part exceeded our expectations. compared to the hotels in colombo we found the elephant bay hotel to provide value for the money. for a decent cost you get a clean room, good service, satellite tv, air conditioning, hot water and elephants! we found this combo hard to beat for the price they were charging. similarly priced hotels in colombo would struggle to provide even two of these items. one gripe however is that the internet was down while we were there..... but we could overlook it because it shined in all the other ways.
Great Experience”
We were extremely happy with the location and ambience of the hotel. The rooms was clean and the reception by the staff was also good. However, we found the hotel food to be slightly expensive, especially the coffee. The toilet near the restaurant area was also very dirty. Except these two issues, the hotel was a perfect get away from the regular hectic life we follow.
Very good hotel for elephant lovers !”
Nicely located near elephant orphanage, elephant bathes besides the pool of this hotel, nice bar and restaurant, beautifully lit outside. Inside rooms, facilities are not much, just to sleep is fine, bathroom stinks, is the main problem I faced, but they said they gonna renovate the entire rooms in couple of months time.
Be aware ”
When we arrived the hotel did not have the type of rooms we booked available. We were not give the river view we had paid premium price for but instead a room that looked over the breakfast area. Also they refused to honor the price we had confirmed with Agoda, saying that they were not using Agoda anymore. It is was disappointing and frustrating.
Great Place with a Great View”
We stayed in a Superior Room with River View. We could see the river from our room itself. It was a great view. Room was clean . Staff was friendly. Food was really good . I cannot understand why the guests cannot check-in without buying the tickets to the E.Orphanage. Is this hotel a business associate of the E.Orphanage? Shantha from Sri Lanka.
Great view of the river to see elephants bathing”
The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms are great. The hotel is located on the property of the Pinnawala elephant orphanage so you will see elephants bathing in the river in the day. In the evening the area is very quiet so there aren't lots of dining or activity options. The beds are comfortable to sleep in and the area is beautiful so certainly worth staying for a night or two.
Amazing experience with elephant”
Room was very clean and nice. Amazing view, u can see all the elephant. Very good location in Pinnawala. Staff was so friendly. We got rooom at 8am. Only problem was breakfast. No selection for european guest. Sri Lanka food was tasty but tooo much spicy. When we ask for water they sad we must to pay. Water is basic!!!!
elephants from the balcony”
Fantastic 2 day stay. Brilliant view from our room, number 128. Long walk up steps but well worth the effort with views up and down the river and at washing time for the elephants. Food of reasonable standard but we came to see the elephants. Staff very helpful. Take care on check in times as you pay 2500 rupees for your day pass to see the elephants on that day only. The sanctuary village closes after 4pm but the hotels are worth a visit along the river. Great souvenirs can be purchased which are made from elephant pooh!!!
View on bathing elephants from hotel room”
To our surprise we had a View on the bathing elephants from hotel room and even from the bed. So every Morning we awake we saw the Elephants. Room was very new and very clean and modern. Liked it really much. Staff was very friendly and meal in the Restaurant was good, too. Everything fine.
WOW!”
What a view of the elephants in the river! A totally new experience and a once in a lifetime experience too! My toddler enjoyed sitting for 2 hours on the balcony to watch the elephants in the river...we had an executive suite in the new part of the hotel. The staff did make efforts to please us after a few complaints - no fridge and suddenly one appeared; hair dryer, no problem - got one in a jiffy! Need extra towels and blankets - no english but just point and show what you need and its in your hands in a few minutes! Needed ice to nurse a sore wrist - no worries got an extra towel and a bucket of ice! Door to bathroom was stuck - no worries - carpenter on call! Hot water all the time. A/C perfect and in working order too...restaurant is huge and clear view of the river and ample space to choose on where to sit etc...you do have to share some of your food with the local crows though! Food was awesome and support staff are awesome. Hotel is privately owned and was visited by the owner and assured every effort will be made to ensure our stay was comfortable - a promise that was well kept. Just a word of advice do not check in between 2pm and 4pm...the government charges 2400LR for viewing the elephants bathing - rather arrange with the hotel to check in before 2pm or get there and have lunch at the large restaurant with an awesome buffet! Located within walking distance to the elephant orphanage and local souvenier shops. Poo paper shop and factory just around the corner is also owned by the hotel - a must visit too...DEFINTELY STAYING AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN ON OUR VISITS TO SRI LANKA!
Unbeatable value for fabulous location”
This is an unpretentious, spacious, clean and fairly basic hotel right on the banks of the river close to the Elephant orphanage. If you are there between 10 and 12 or 2 to 4pm you can touch and feed the elephants who are brought to the river to bathe. Thus saving yourself the high entry fee the orphanage charges to visitors (more than the price of a double room for 2!). There are wonderful views over the river from most rooms and restaurant/bar/terraces and some tourist shops 2 mins walk away. Perfect for a night or 2 while touring the island. 2 hours drive from airport, we chose to stay here to avoid the hassle and cost of a night in Colombo before flying home. Best value hotel by far on our trip.
