Felt like unwelcome guests in someone else's house”
At first it was hard to tell if there even was any staff. It became apparent that the two dudes (Darren & Kean) lounging in the common area watching tv all day every day were the staff. Simple questions were met with irritation, unhelpfulness or, if we were lucky, vague directions from someone horizontal on the couch.
Many places in Hakuba have a vehicle to help guests get from A to B as it is a lage town. Not so with Monkey Rider. Never offered assistance by way of a lift when asking about the supermarket, pharmacy etc
I asked Kean if he thought Norikura ski resort was better than Cortina. Darren cut in saying 'Nah Norikura is s***, don't go there, go to Cortina' he then snickered with Kean as I walked away. Obviously implying that Norikura is better but not wanting more people to ride there (even his guests!?).
Toilets weren't cleaned the whole stay. Linen was not changed in 16 days. Had to ask for towels. Terrible service. Could go on at length. Don't go there.

Good location with friendly welcoming managers ”
A good location only a minute to the #4 shuttle to Happo-one. Guests can chose to self cater or there are many good cafes and restaurants a five minutes work away. Breakfast is basic (cereal and toast) but it’s enough to get you going before you head out for a day on the mountain.

Awesome time at Monkey Rider”
Great place with a great atmosphere and really cool bar area. The only complaint was that the bathrooms smelled a bit weird but otherwise we had a good stay.
