Convenient to Historical Park ”
We stayed at Pinpao for several nights and found it to be a convenient hotel with many restaurants within walking distance (10-15 minutes) and to the entrance of the historical park an additional 5-7 minutes walk. Breakfast was good with fresh honeycomb from the mountains, eggs made to order, and fresh fruit. Our room was clean, though the bed was a little more firm than we're used to, but all in all a good room with no bugs or plenty of hot water and excellent pressure from the shower. Also, good fluffy towels folded into shapes of elephants which was a nice touch. We used the pool as well and what a refreshing experience after riding our bikes all day in the hot sun at the historical park. There are many loungers next to the pool and you are invited to take a cold drink with you. They have an honor system for buying cold drinks in the lobby where you take what you want from the cooler and write it down with your room number on a sheet of paper on the reception desk. It was great.
Great location, a hotel to consider ”
If you want to walk to the temples, enjoy a swim after your day, this is a convenient place to stay. The rooms are small, some without a window, the breakfast is passable (they do however have fruit, good coffee, an interesting breakfast desert wrapped in banana leaves), white toast on both days was dry and hard. Be aware that the beds are more than firm. All in all, we were glad to be able to walk to the sites and the nearby bus station. Also enjoyed the excellent restaurant directly across the street. Thanks also to the owner for her kindness in going out of her way to get milk for our coffee.
Bed hard like wood”
The location is good near the historical parc. The swimming pool area is great with nice place too relax. But the rooms are small without windows, a bit noisy and the floor is more confortable than the beds. Staff is ok
Very basic, no frills hotel”
If you only need a clean place to sleep and have breakfast, this is a good place to stay. At first I was really disappointed but I had to remember you get what you pay for. The bed is quite hard. Breakfast is pretty good (I've had worse but also better). The room was mostly clean. It didn't have an outside window which felt odd to me - a bit cave like. My biggest disappointment was the swimming pool. I was really looking forward to having an afternoon or two laying out and swimming but that didn't happen. The loungers look like they've been left in the sun and rain far too long and desperately need to be replaced. The pool itself was a murky shade of green. I could have covered up the loungers but I was afraid to go in the algae filled water. So sad that it is so poorly taken care of. It could have been beautiful. It is fairly close to the historical park - less than a 15 minute walk to the entrance. I rented a bike (super cheap - 30 baht/day) and it was a pleasant and easy ride.
Simple rooms but great location and pool.”
Our third stay. Rooms with outside windows are far superior but even the'worse' downstairs no outside window rooms are fine and the rest of the place more than makes up for it. Staff efficient, friendly and speak English. !0 mins (slow) cycle ride into centre of old town and ruins.
Old Sukhothai Adventure”
Pinpao is run by an extremely friendly woman who takes great care to ensure that the rooms are clean and fastidiously made up each day. Breakfast is served each morning and while I was there included local honey in the comb on each table. There is a pool in the back, reachable by a very rickety wooden bridge over the canal that definitely needs some fixing - a little scary to cross actually. The pics make it seem as though the rooms are right next to the pool, they are not - but no big deal. Wish there was more food available for snacks, lunch, etc. Most other guesthouses in the area do have better food service. It is a good value for the money and is right on the main road to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, perhaps a 10-15 minute walk away. For what it is, a basic clean guest house with a pool and breakfast, I give PinPao 7/10.
Beautiful place”
This is a beautiful little place ideally located for the historical park, market and local restaurants. Lovely pool and breakfast. Only downsides were poor WiFi and no laundry facilities though there is a launderette nearby and the historical park has good free WiFi.
Great place to stay in Sukothai.”
The manager, Poo, was so awesome, super friendly and helpful in giving information and getting us a taxi to airport. She fixes breakfast when you come down, no stale leftovers on a steamer. The rooms are cute and quirky, the beds hard in the Asian tradition. Walking distance to all the town and historic area. We didn't have time to enjoy the pool but it was clean and private.
nice clean hotel near historical sights”
The hotel is very clean and well located if you want to visit the parks. There is a local food market with street food stalls at night a short walk into town, 3 to 5 min wakk. Bikes can be rented for 1dollar per day in the town.
Perfect location to explore the ruins of Sukhothai”
We loved Pinpao because it was easy to get into the main area of the Old City. We rented bikes and were able to keep them out front. The host sat us down and drew up an itinerary on a map of the Old City, so we were able to see the recommended ruins at the appropriate times (i.e. sunrise, sunset) which was awesome. The swimming pool was great to have in the midday heat. A simple breakfast was included and I'd do anything to have that homemade coconut pudding wrapped in a banana leaf with local tree honey and a banana on top again!
Stay for the location, not the service”
Our bus was late so we didn't check in until 8pm; really worried that we couldn't check in, but it wasn't a problem. Staff checked us in, but forgot to give us our key. In Thailand you expect great service and friendly people, but for some reason that is missing from Pinpao. Most of the time the front desk wasn't even attended, so don't know what we would've done if we needed help. The only person I really saw was the lady that made breakfast (and also checked us out in between making eggs!) It's a great location, which all of the songtaew drivers know at the bus station. It's an easy walk (15 mins) down the street to the historical park. There's also a cute restaurant (Coffee House) diagonally across the street. The pool was well-maintained and breakfast was tasty (Thai coconut dumpling, toast, eggs, coffee). My biggest pet peeve was that there was no hair dryer in the room (and none in the hotel at all!) The rooms come with everything else, but it gets cold at night and you want to have dry hair when you sleep; having hair dryers isn't a big investment. As long as you bring your own hairdryer and are ok with indifferent service (especially by Thai standards) than this is a good choice for the price.
Interesting experience ”
Overall it was good. PInpao is located right to the historical part of Sukhotai and a bus company' office (with busses to to Bangkok and Chang Mai). Hotel manager was helpful and told us about all options and destinations according to our schedule. The good things are that they have a great pool (which is located in the backyard with an adorable wooden bridge over the ancient trench full of water lilies) and a small but nice breakfast (nescafe/tea + toasts + eggs + bananas + local rice pudding in a feaf + extra delicious honey served in cells). The bad things are that our room had a window with a corridor view, thin walls (so no privacy), cool water in a shower (it was very cold at night, so...). Anyways I can't recommend it for a really long stay, but it's ok for a 2-3 nights.
Good location, nice pool, home made breakfast”
May, the manager of the hotel is hardworking, thoughtful, friendly and attending to details (e.g. the towels are presented in the room as lotus flowers on the bed). The hotel is safe and peaceful too with other friendly visitors. It is close to the park and the restaurants area but the walk at night is not pleasant as there is no pavement, the cars/motorcycles will zoom beside you but if you are too close houses, the fierce dogs will bark at you. The food in those restaurants is not very good either. This hotel is particularly close to Wat Chang Lom (just 3 min walk with opposite direction from the park) and there is a beautiful rice field next to it. The Legendha Resort opposite to the wat is also worth visiting as it is like a beautiful garden with canals and occasional free demonstration of traditional cooking outside their restaurants.
Nice guest house, convenient for main sites”
Stayed two nights, and could easily have stayed longer. The rooms were comfortable, the pool area was very pleasant, especially after a long day site-seeing. Breakfast was excellent, really original. The lady running the place was very helpful.
Wonderful guest house”
Loved this guest house! The young woman manager never stops working. She's constantly cleaning so the place is spotless. Yes the beds may be too firm for some people but we loved them. The pool area is a true oasis.
Good Value and Perfectly Adequate”
while it will never be mistaken for the four seasons, pinpao works well as a good value and was ideal for our first experience in a thai guest house. your stay should include breakfast because the restaurants are a 10minute walk away. the pool was a delight. very clean and located in a quiet area behind the guest house. mae was very helpful with all of our questions and helped arrange transport back to the train station in phitsulak. there is a 10 minute walk to the park. rent the bikes from or bike rental and you can pedal back to the guest house...they will pick up the bikes the next day.
Good location ”
We stayed at the second floor room with window facing outside which means quiet and privacy in return. It would be better to have curtain in the bathroom to block the water spray. The reception girl was helpful when we had questions but not sociable at all.
Great location and pool”
We liked staying at this small guesthouse located near the Sukhothai. Very convenient to the Historical Park. The operator was friendly and helpful. The garden and pool area was very nice for relaxation and swimming to escape the heat of the day. Breakfast was fine. The room was clean and a reasonable size. Our room was at the back and quiet. The Historical town has limited restaurant choices.
Perfect location, charming hotel”
Our room was the most charming of our trip to Thailand. Breakfast could have been more interesting, but it was ok. The staff was very helpful and the hotel was meticulous. Best of all after a hot day of visiting the ruins: the pool was exquisite. Loved the hammocks!
Nice place, but no free wifi”
Pinpao was closed so we had to stay at the orchid hibiscus, which worked out fine, but I wish I had known that when I booked online. It was kind of a shock at 7 am to get to Pinpao and the driver tell us its closed and we had to go somewhere else. Also pinpao had free wifi, the other place didn't which was not a perk at all. Staff was friendly enough.
