Nice room, great view but a 10-min walk from Bus Station”
Lovely converted old house into modern hostel, we love the room, bath room and the view - forest and Sho river. There is a suburb near the hotel, with cafe and restaurants (serving Hida beef at reasonable price) sprouting up. The simple breakfast is DIY, as the ingredient was provided. It's a 10 min walk from the bus station, and can be an issue if it's raining or snowing. That's the only downside.
We stayed only for a night but managed to enjoy the dinner provided (around 1800 yen per pax I think). Highly recommended to go for the dinner because its really delicious and the vegetables are really fresh, even the rice were planted by the owner herself. Also, getting dinner around might not be so ideal in winter because it can get really cold and it is really just easier and more relaxed to be able to have a nice and warm dinner at home. The room is very big and the en suite bathroom is really clean and well kept. We went in winter so they provided a heater which we thought worked really well for such a big room. The ingredients provided for us to prepare our own breakfast was also tasty. It was lovely to be able to enjoy the process of making our breakfast the way we wanted. It was a really short stay for us but I recommend this place for people who like traditional tatami rooms and a home stay feel. It is a 10 minutes walk away from the shirakawago centre so please take the time to enjoy the sceneries while you walk. If you're coming to shirakawago and want to experience a modern plus traditional home stay then please consider here.
Cosy family stay”
The place reminded me of a cosy cottage with warm friendly hosts. The rooms were spacious and the toilet was such a delight that I wish our own home toilets were like that. The hosts were very helpful to help us book the bus tickets back to Kyoto. This is ideal for family with kids or even couples. Do check out the place.
Very Good ”
The location is good. The room is clean and the staff is nice. Will stay here again next time.
Friendliness of the staff, views, rooms, and kitchen were all wonderful. No cons
Clean and simple ”
Clean and simple house newly renovated. Has a few rooms to cater to different size of travellers. A common area and kitchen for preparing own breakfast. Nice Hida beef bbq restaurant down the road.
The stay was great. Place was neat and tidy. The kitchen provided all you need for a warm and pleasant stay. Breakfast was great and provided enough energy in the morning. The surroundings was scenic and peaceful. The backyard has a pond with fishes and a river. We really like it and will return to stay in a new season! Thanks Tomo for everything!
One of our best stays in Japan”
If you are looking for a place to stay in Shirakawa-go, this is it. Coco (the owner) explained everything really well and gave us plenty of tips for our walk around of the area. The room was comfortable and has a great view of the river. They provide ingredients for breakfast and it is up to you to choose what you want to do with it. The soap/shampoo they provide was also excellent!
Shirakawago Terrace, the best of both worlds; modern amenities in a traditional Minshuku setting. ”
We stayed at Shirakawago Terrace on 8 Mar 18. It is a hundred old house that has undergone renovation last year. Thus, we have the best of both worlds; modern amenities in a traditional Minshuku setting. The place is very accessible; it is a mere 10 mins walk from the bus station. If you like a private bathroom, this place certainly doesn’t disappoint. The bathroom is the biggest that we ever had in any of the Japanese hotels. Furthermore, this minshuku is kept really clean and comfortable. We were received by the host Coco San and her assistant Keiko San. They were both very friendly and gave us useful tips on navigating the village. They both speak English fluently. It rained heavily on the day we checked out, and Keiko San voluntarily sent us to the bus station. It was very nice of her, as we were not carrying very heavy luggages. On the whole, I will highly recommend staying at Shirakawago Terrace if anyone intends to stay in the village for the experience.
a hidden little gem near shirakawa go village”
first i was hesitated to stay here because of the location and the age of the house but since i was bringing 2 toddlers i think a hotel should be better than staying at one of the village houses, and turns out i was completely right, the hotel were an old house but the inside is newly renovated and look comfortable, modern and clean, the house staff tomo san were very helpful and concernableto all of our needs, one night when we were going to have dinner it was very dark, raining and snowing so my daughter felt in a water tunnel so she is soaking wet and we got back to the hotel, tomo san helped drive us with car & even dried up my daughter boots and when we were checking out it was raining and we were planning to buy some umbrella but instead she gave us for free, not to forget to mention that the hotel itself is very homy, with self servicebreakfast, full equipped kitchen and the tatami were so comfortoble, it was really a pleasant experience to stay there, thank you again tomo san
We love this cosy little house which has been only refurbished this summer. The host Tomo was very kind and helpful and provides very clear explanation on the house rules and information on how we should tour the village. We ordered the dinner from them and it was delicious. Would definitely recommend this place to all travelers.
New and Cozy.Staff great communication. ”
The new room is comfortable, but not be soundproofed may hear the room next door. There is a kitchen and breakfast provide. If you want dinner, tell the host. The host provide great advice and information. Getting to The bus terminal and the Shirakawago village is 10-15 minutes away by walks. There are convenience store and onsen nearby.
A freshly refreshed hostel run with a heart”
This hostel brought another experience of traveling. The hostel from outside is a veteran, but inside is contemporary. Despite not located within Shirakawago, it is on the main road linking to the famous tourist attractions, within 15 minutes walk. The host offered us to park our car after checking out, so we can enjoy our visit. This is no restaurant nearby, but a convenient store around the corner. The hostel has a common kitchen for the guests to make their own meals: breakfast is provided, but for dinner you better get your own dishes first before arriving the hostel. Just in case, get a cup noodle from the convenient store as dinner is nothing embarrassing.
Very comfortable and very clean ”
We love our room, very clean and comfortable. Also warm hospitality from staffs and cozy living area. We enjoy backyard and the river at the back of hostel. The location is 10 mins walk from Nohi bus terminal. There is convenience store near by.
New experience on staying in the hostel”
It's a good place to stay. The hostel staff is very friendly and helpful, she provided us useful information about the attraction places around the heritage village. I felt comfortable to stay at the hostel, although there's no private bathroom in the room. The bathroom is very clean, I totally had no problem with that. It's not far away from the heritage village. There's a convenient store just opposite the hostel.
An old traditional Japanese house”
The hostel located near the Observatory in Shirakawa-go. There was a convenience store in 3-minute walk distance. Its appearance didn't look good in snowy days as they put plastic boards around the house for protection. But the inner side was nice and the staff there was very helpful. We arrived there at around 17:00 and a staff called Ms Tomo clearly briefed us where we could have dinner and hotspring at night. She also recommended some must-go places in Shirakawa-go. The hostel offered us 8 pieces of bread with butter and jam, tea and coffee, and 4 eggs as breakfast. Basic seasoning and oil were also provided. We simply made toasts and boiled egg as breakfast. I saw others customers make omelette and egg sandwiches. You may also use your creativity with limited ingredients in the morning. The drawbacks were the room door had no lock and we still heard traffic near 23:00. The corridor was quite cold in early morning as the main door was thin. Situation become better when we entered the common room and toilet area. To sum up, the hostel is value for money comparing to others in Shirakawa-go. It's suitable to those wish to spend a night time in the beautiful village.
We booked the upper stair wide window room n the view is sooo stunning during winter. it’s quite pricey just for one night but the view is so worth it. 10min walking distance from bus station Highly recommend you guys to order their dinner as the restaurant in shirakawago closed super early !!
