Nice courtyard house for travellers ”
The location quite near to places of interest to visit. Good place to meet backpackers and travellers to share experiences and info. And must try their yummy dumplings. Beer is cheap too!
value for money , owner will recommend or suggest where to go for tour , suggest the sequence if you are not sure where to go about . he will brief the moment you have checked . he is very familiar .G”
a very good place for budget travellers and for people who wants to make friends.
i feel welcome by owner and stafff”
it is convieniently located , feel like home , honest and friendly owner , nice si chuan food nearby , very cheap and delicious
The owners are really friendly and helpful! 5 stars for that! They have provided us with many travel advices/recommendations!! We engaged their help to book tickets to the forbidden city using their e-payment which we did not have and also book tour to the Great Wall! The accommodation is courtyard size and we do enjoy sitting at the courtyard for a drink or breakfast or mingle with owners/other travellers. Location near several attractions e.g. Forbidden city/nan luo gu xiang/hou hai and many restaurants, all within walking distance (thou is quite a bit of walking). Overall good stay!
Cool hostel, location not so great though”
Super cute courtyard hostel, but I will say the neighborhood is quite rundown. Beijing is super safe, but not my favorite part of the city. People working there are also extremely friendly and helpful.
Friendly Host & Unique Place”
The host was fluent in English and was able to advice me accordingly whenever I had queries. It was a unique hostel as it is situated in a quiet neighbour beside the park. The dorm comes with its attached shower and bathroom. The Wifi connection was reliable as well. It is quite a walk from the subway station, it takes me about 20 minutes to walk to the hostel. It is very conveniently located, near tian'an men and the palace museum.
Fantastic location. Abounding with charm. ”
Convenient walk to many tourist attractions - loved experiencing the slice of life and old world feeling winding through the hutong neighborhood on the way. Sitting in the super charming courtyard with a nice cup of tea was a great way to relax after a long day of sightseeing. Rick and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I really appreciated the print out of itinerary and restaurant suggestions they give you when you arrive. The bathroom might leave a little more to be desired, but nothing unexpected. Overall, great value for the money, and a wonderful experience.
Extremely helpful hosts”
Quirky, clean and quaint hutong. The hosts are friendly and helpful at all times. I'd definitely stay there again for my next visit.
I was kind of disappointed in this place, going by the reviews. The location was good in that it was walking distance to the Forbidden City and restaurants and shops. However, the place itself wasn't great. It was very cluttered, disorganized, small, and the bathroom was moldy. On the plus side the staff was extremely helpful and friendly and provided great information about the area.
We stayed here in March This place is just great, in fact we loved it so much that we stayed twice! This place just made our visit to Beijing. On arrival, (having followed their directions, thus finding it first time) the check in was one of the best we've had for a long while. It was quick and easy, and we were then given a map with all the sights, and details of when best to go and how to get there, and all done with charm and a sense of humour. The rooms themselves I think have previously been described as not that big, but they were a good size, extremely comfortable and very clean. This place has a great social area, the inner courtyard was interesting and a good place to meet other travellers. The food that they served there as well was just awesome, big dishes of chinese food that was extremely tasty and great value for money...as was the beer in the fridge! We took an excursion with them to The Great Wall of China and it was a good day out. Overall the service and the comfort of room was excellent and it's difficult to find fault. We would highly recommend and would stay again.
Good location with local help”
Hard to find as cars can't drive to the front door. There were no signs on the main road and the taxi driver had to walk around the hutong for nearly over half an hour to find it; this was a 2 a.m. and it was raining and I wasn't going to pay him until we had found the front door. The common area could do with a big clean up. The room we stayed in had a big en-suite and small bedroom. I feel it was over rated at the price and I would rate it at 1.5 stars. I paid the same price to stay in Day Inn near the Forbidden City, being a much nicer hotel in a more convenient location - metro nearby.
fantastic helpful owners”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner was really accommodating and helpful in all areas. Although it was a bit tricky to find initially, we soon found or bearings. It was cleaner and nicer than we expected. Breakfast was convenient and nice, although the scrambled eggs were a bit 'different'. The dumplings were amazing! We will definitely come back.
Hotel with good location nd nice atmosphere”
Amazing location and excellent staff”
My partner and I stayed here for one night when we first arrived in Beijing. The owner is incredibly helpful and has excellent English. He went out of his way to ensure our stay was pleasant and answered all of our questions. He went over and above what we expected and provided us with detailed directions and even called a restaurant we wanted to visit to order us duck and get directions from them. We have visited many hostels and hotels but he helpfulness of the staff here is unrivalled. We visited the great wall for a night but we enjoyed our stay so much we came back for two further nights. If you are coming to Beijing you must stay here!
4 nights at Sitting on the City Walls”
We had a great time at this hostel (4 nights). It might need one or two small things fixed (shower head, bathroom door handle) but it was comfortable with powerful aircon. Very relaxed atmosphere everywhere, very helpful staff - a really good idea to have a series of recommended day tours with bus and subway guides and map. Nice mix of other guests. Great location, not easy to find on the first day, but local people were kind and friendly. Once you know it though, it was easy to get to everywhere we wanted to get to. Recommend it, and we would happily stay there again.
Awesome place to stay”
We had an excellent stay, staff speak fantastic English and are incredibly helpful. The hotel is quirky with a relaxing central court yard in the Hutong area which has a lovely friendly vibe. It centrally located near main attractions/metro/bus, would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to others.
I would never stay anywhere else in Beijing!”
My boyfriend and I (mid 20's) had a great time here. I did a ton of research in picking a place to stay in Beijing, and it certainly paid off. We were in one of the rooms off of the lobby, but we were there in November so there weren't too many other travelers for it to be loud like some other reviews report - we brought ear plugs just in case, but didn't need them. It was absolutely charming, safe, the staff were attentive. We had breakfast there on two mornings because we got up VERY early and it was so good! I had some sort of granola bowl and then a noodle bowl. One of my favorite things were the meals, snacks and drinks offered - they were so cheap! We hadn't booked our great wall trip prior to the visit because we couldn't find a reasonable trip for what we wanted. We booked our trip through the hostel and it was exactly what we wanted (and cheaper than alternatives!) - we didn't want the "touristiest" (Badaling) or the very difficult one - so we chose Mutianyu on the staff's recommendation. They were there to pick us up on time and we made some great friends. My aunt is from Beijing and my Aunt and Uncle travel there often, when I told them where I was staying, they said they heard really nice things. I'm the kind of person who doesn't want to stay in a name brand hotel, and i certainly don't need the top accommodations when abroad because i'm out exploring most of the time, so this was a great home base. OH! And it's located very close to a hot pot restaurant that was an amazing experience. The staff showed us how to use the bus system, which i'm so glad we did. It was incredibly cheap, close by, and convenient. The location of the hostel seemed so safe, I didn't feel uncomfortable walking around late at night in the dark. One down side was that it was a little tough to find at night, but be sure to print out directions and use a map. I would 100% recommend this hostel for anyone traveling to Beijing.
Great hotel with great owners”
We had a great stay at City Walls courtyard House. On arrival we got a bunch of travel advice, on where to go. The hotel is a bit tricky to find in the middle of a Huton neighbourhood, but the locals will tell you where to go. It's a 10 min walk to the nearst metro station. There's a bus stop with buses to Tiananmen square within 5 mins. The owners are very friendly and very willing to give advice.
