Beautiful Hotel in the Heart of Edinburgh”
Gorgeous. Great Location. Staff was very friendly. The only issue I had was the first room they gave us was small and dark and certainly not a 5 star room. We complained and they upgraded us for a fee.
Wonderful hotel, in so many ways!”
We enjoyed a lovely stay in this iconic hotel, all the staff are friendly and very helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The bedroom was a good size and the bed and bedlinen were sumptuous! We ate in the Prince Brasserie early evening and the food was delicious! The entire ambience was a delight! If I was was being a tad critical we enjoyed the Spa facilities, early swim etc..but I'd say that the Spa/ pool area could do with a little updating. Overall.....I'd return in a heartbeat!
Perfect location ”
We travel to Edinburgh regularly to visit our daughter at the university. We have stayed in many wonderful hotels (and have two regular ones same standard as the Balmoral)) but this was the first time at the Balmoral. We stayed two nights in three rooms for our daughter's 21st. Perfect location, facility and staff. The afternoon tea in the The Palm with attentive staff was brilliant and a perfect end to a 21 birthday celebration. Too much food so either don't have breakfast on the day or book your tea for very late afternoon. Only negative comment I have is one of the reception staff was a bit "cold" but this could be due to either language or cultural difference. We have two more years of visit to Edinburgh and we will certainly stay here a few times and treat our daughter to a break from her student flat. Thank you.
Returning from Skye Highlands excursion I checked in right away completely relaxed easy to all evenues After days out I had a Spa Day it was wonderful Pool warm Sauna for sore muscles A relaxing Massage then enjoying afternoon Tea was prefect I wasn’t happy of the change of room service menu
The best hotel I've ever stayed in”
I'm not a person to be effusive but this is the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Everything was perfect and I cannot think of anything that spoiled it. It made for a beautiful Christmas for us. Every member of staff was so professional and friendly; every piece of decor oozed class; the food was incredible. We loved the toy owl and accompanying picture book as a present for our little girl - we loved the Santa stocking hanging on our door, too. I couldn't thank the staff enough and we will definitely return.
Excellent in every way except for the bathroom, which remained extremely cold. There were no heating vents, and cold air infiltrated around the window. The only heat source was the heated towel bar, and without going into the details of surface area related to heat transfer, it was just not enough.
The Balmoral is an beautiful hotel in a beautiful city”
We had booked a more economical room but at check-in I inquired if I could pay for an upgrade. They upgraded us to room 720 for what I thought was an extremely fair cost. It was an amazing treat. (Thanks Axel!) Our room had been renovated with a jaw dropping view of the castle and an alcove that provided additional views of the city. At night time it was even more amazing.. I asked for bath salts and they magically appeared- and each night there after. The concierge was beyond helpful. Loved it!
Nice room, helpful staff”
This is a very convenient hotel for the city's attractions. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the bedroom was large and had a good view. Breakfast in Hadrian's Brasserie was excellent with a wide choice of different food for self-service.
Lovely hotel while afternoon tea was not available.”
The hotel was very comfortable and in a very central location to the train station. My only issue was when the hostess at the Palms could not provide a single afternoon tea when the restaurant was not full at that time nor at the time I returned an hour later. I took my business elsewhere.
Best of the best”
We got a discounted room originally and were upgraded when we arrived. We wish we could have stayed longer. This hotel is expensive but the environment, the location and the impeccable service of the staff cannot be beat.
It was very good. However I had to ask about a tea/coffee service for the room to avoid having to continually pay room service charges for having a cup of coffee. Other than the room was lovely, spacious and comfortable. Very busy all the time in the lobby so we were not able to have afternoon tea in the Palm room. But the whiskey room was very relaxed.
Recommend this hotel”
Love this hotel , stayed here in Feb this year and was back again last weekend, can't fault it. Hotel is so nice and clean, good service and the staff can't do enough for you . Hopefully be back next year.
All perfect. Attentive staff couldn't do too much. The building itself is dominant and energising and wraps you up in a warm glow on a winters day. All aided by the amazing whisky bar with the unbelievably knowledgable kilt wearing polish barman.
5 Star , not so sure”
Very pleasant but just didn't have that all important wow factor. No tea/coffee facilities in the room , one calls down to reception and within 5 minutes they arrive. But a rather tacky white plastic kettle accompanied by various tea and coffee sachets, you cannot be serious. Has to be nespresso or similar in this type of establishment. Breakfast way overpriced at £25 per head, with the usual breakfast buffet free for all as it was very busy. Not a great start to your day especially as my wife had a couple of yoghurts ,coffee and water!!! Compared to the pre theatre menu we enjoyed the night before , breakfast was a let down. Valet parking excellent, Staff excellent , especially those in the spa and at the door.
The stay was excellent the staff were very helpful with elderly patents arrival for lunch, very patient and understanding without being patronising. Lunch wonderful apart from the Yorkshire puddings which we did comment on and the staff said they has already received complaints, but they were still continued to be served the other dinners that were coming out and still being left. Yorkshire puddings should be light fluffy not solid. Would like to know the rational in having to ask for tea making facilities in a 5 star hotel? constructive commentsthese are.
Fantastic hotel. Lovely experience”
Always wanted to stay at the balmoral and got a great deal for a weekend break. Attentive staff and valet service. Although I was surprised that the room rate did not include breakfast. However if I return to Edinburgh I would love to stay at the balmoral again.
Amazing place, amazing staff, amazing bars and restaurants can't recommend this place enough. Thank you so much for making our stay memorable
A birthday treat for my 50 year old son, he thoroughly enjoyed his stay”
Exceptional staff, helpful, and immaculate in their professionalism
