      Stargazers delight”

      Location, views and stars

Two nights in Jebel Shams resort did not disappoint - allowed us to do the 'balcony walk' to Al Sab at a very relaxed pace & a bit of the route the other way (W6a) for views down the valley to Al Hamra and beyond. The food was perfectly adequate for both breakfast & dinner with good, friendly service. We stayed in an Arabic tent - well furnished, we used the heater provided to take the chill off (it was windy when we stayed) but didn't need it on all night. The bathroom could do with a clean but the broken hot water was fixed within 10 minutes of me notifying reception at 9pm. Don't expect Wifi - you're in the mountains so forget about in & enjoy the views instead. You could probably get there in a 2WD, I would recommend 4WD though. If I could give them one tip it would be to turn the outside lights down - or better still off (after midnight) to allow us stargazers better viewing from inside the camp.

Beautiful location and decor, cold comfort”

      Location, location, location

This is an attractive resort in a great location but a bit less than luxe for the price, especially on a cold night in January. We had come up to Jebel Shams planning to do the Balcony Walk (which we managed to do in part) and then enjoy a fire in the pit outside (with wood for purchase) before turning in. (As it turned out we stayed indoors since it was really, really cold after sunset and even a fire outside suddenly didn't tempt us as we had thought it would.) The real issue, though, turned out to be inside--like other Omani showers this one was not enclosed, meaning there was water all over the bathroom floor as soon as anyone showered that in that cold simply wasn't going to dry up and disappear as it does during the hotter weather. The resort really needs either to enclose the showers or to offer a lot more towels and mats to deal with the splashabout. Otherwise one gets out of bed during the night (wearing at least one pair of bedsocks for warmth), steps onto a still-wet and very cold bathroom floor, and afterwards either changes into a fresh pair of socks or suffers damp, freezing feet in bed for the rest of the night. The small electric heater just barely dents the cold in the room, and while the duvets do a great job there still needs to be either less water or more towels in the bathroom (better yet, underfloor heating). The dinner was okay, camp-style, with an array of fairly basic but hearty fare, and the same held true at breakfast (instant coffee, powdered orange juice, etc.). Overall a good, basic accommodation that could easily up the comfort level a bit.

      Astonishing view! ”

I stayed with some friends at this amazing location during Corona virus pandemic so we had meals delivered to our room and some of the facilities such as the pool were not available, even so we had a great time. Breakfast was okay but dinner was quite tasty and substantial. The resort has loads of ares to chill and for outdoor barbeque. I loved the way they used herbs, mostly mint, to beautifully decorate their gardens. They also used lots of pomegranate and peach trees. Being here was a great break from the heat of Muscat in the summer, we could go for long walks, there are several hike trails available and well signaled. Some require a great level of fitness but even just doing part of it was worthed. The road up Jebel Shams is good, mostly paved, but there are sections that are still unpaved.

Absolutely amazing experience of staying in Jebel Shams resort! The way up was a bit stressful as we were driving at night, but overall it's absolutely reachable even without 4x4 car. The rooms are clean, staff polite and the buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinners offers nice variety for such a secluded place.

We had an awesome experience. We stayed in one of the Arabic tents. We had 3 small beds and couple additional mattresses if we had more people with us. We enjoyed the short walk to the awesome Jebel Shams Canyon. We had an awesome fire in front of the tent. It was late August and it rained hard at night but we were dry & warm inside the tent (its a heavy duty tent). There are also several newly built hotel room but we liked our tent. We enjoyed the pool for 30 min late in the day - it was getting late & a bit cold. Awesome staff. Breakfast was great. We then walked to the end of dirt road, met a guide in the village who took us for a walk along the canyon. An Awesome Mountain vacation.

      Nice resort with Friendly staff”

Stayed her on a second trip to Jebel Shams; stayed in Sama Heights previously. This was much better from the moment we arrived. The rooms were clean and well presented although a little dated and fairly small bathrooms. The breakfast and dinner were very good and way better than Sama Heights. In fact everything in the resort worked and my mother-in-law even used the pool (December) and loved it. The staff made they stay and were very friendly and helpful. We will be regulars to Jebel Shams and will be using this resort every time.

      Unforgetable Jebel Shams”

It is an unforgetable stay at Jebel Shams Resort. The surrounding scenary and view are amazing. 4WD is the best way to reah the resort as there are steep turns and slopes along the 7km dirt road. There are trekking trails located near to the resort such as Balcony Walk trek No. W6. We got the chance to see the night sky full of stars and milky way in the early morning of 3.00am. Resort staff are friednly and helpful. We hope Jebel Shams Resort could improve their WiFi internet connection as it was totally no connection.

      Scenic mountain camp”

Great spot to stay on Jebel Shams close to the starting point of the W6 hike above An Nakhur gorge. Fantastic mountain scenery. It is a nice experience to sleep in one of the tents equipped with comfy beds and own bathrooms. The tents are, however, rather basic and a bit cold at night and therefore slightly overpriced. The restaurant serves decent food for breakfast and dinner (both buffet). There is also a nice small swimming pool.

Very accommodating staff upgraded my group to Private Chalets from which we could see the sunset from our terraces. Food was good value for the price, i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets in a very remote location. Very close to the Rim Walk in Jebel Shams. Rooms were clean and had everything necessary. Mattress was a bit uncomfortable.

      Great location in Jebel Shams”

Very calm, good for hiking, far away from "civilisation"

We just stay one night in Jebel Shams but to rest and have time to discover all mountains around you can stay 2 or 3 nights. Swimming pool is great before sunset but "not heated". Bungalows are new and fully equipped. At the restaurant, there is a good choice of food in the buffet, but it's not gastronomic. It's a very good place to stay in a calm and rested place. Walking to Al Khitaym village and on the hedge of the cirque is fantastic, but take care if you are afraid of heights.

It's my second time here. I still like their location and accommodation (I stayed in mountain lodge type). Awesome beauty and access to great walking routes”

Mountain/canyon views, the cooler weather, and the walks.

Jebel Shams is one of only a couple of places to stay at the top of the mountain, and is at least 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the country. If you don't want to wild camp this is a great option with comfortable beds, showers, nice food, and the pool is refreshing after a day of hiking. The manager, Lynn, assisted us with organizing walks and tours for our time there and we had 2 great days with a variety of activities from visiting traditional villages, to driving and walking through a Wadi, driving some of the precarious Hutt road, followed by a half day on the Balcony Walk. Superb.

We staied at Jabel Shambs Resort during the low season. Few tourists, so the hotel provide us a bigger and more confortable room, respect the typical Arabic Tent. Very peacefull area, closer than the beautifull view on the canyon and not so far to Nizwa center.

      Good alternative to camping”

      Location, Weather, relaxed Atmosphere

We chose to stay in the hotel rather than just camping because we were travelling with small children, one below 1 year old. It is a spacious resort, giving you lots of places to relax. For us it was just great to get away from the heat in Dubai, we loved the cool weather and the surrounding mountains. The rooms were big and the beds were good and large as well. But we spent most of the day outside anyways, exploring the nearby areas and canyons, relaxing in the shade of the arabic style gazebos, having our own BBQ for lunch, the kids were playing with the pebbles or on the playground (which could use some renovation, but they had fun anyways). The food in the restaurant was better than I expected after having read some of the reviews. You also have to consider where you are, and few places in Oman are 5 star, or if, then you pay a lot more. There is also a kiosk which sells french fries, burgers and sandwiches throughout the day, ice cream, ice cubes, etc. Being Eid, it was probably one of the busiest times of the year for the resort, yet the atmosphere in the resort was very relaxed. I would have expected more noise with so many people camping and staying there (by the way, the mountain lodges are extremely noise proof, we did not hear anything during the nights). Overall, we had a great time there and will surely be back again!

Stunning place, but a bit misleading”

+ stunning location + open areas, pool (but it’s definitely not heated!) - our room was damp and a little foul smelling - contrary to advertised, there isn’t WiFi anywhere, except at the reception for about 1 minute at a time (then wait 15 min for another “opening”); this isn’t bad in itself depending on expectations, but I wish the Resort didn’t advertise it because it’s misleading (we were counting on internet to book our next night accommodation and almost couldn’t do it) - we were asked OMR 65 for a pickup from Al Hamra, which is WAY too much, almost extortionate; in the end we went up with our normal (not 4WD) car, which is doable if you’re very careful during the 7 km unpaved section Overall, we were contented with the resort, but frustrated with the misleading, tourist-sucking bits.

We only had one night there but it was really lovely, apart from the amazing position, the accommodation was superb, really comfy and very clean...the food was excellent and everyone so friendly..definitely a Whow place after dinner with the beautiful sky..exceptional..one small tip is if you going in December, January etc you need warm clothes...we were really cold outside, but rooms have heaters, would have liked a blanket each provided by resort to enable us to sit outside longer but not a criticism..
