The smart choice in KK”

Pros: Located on Gaya St where the banks are so it's quiet at night and you'll get a good sleep, hostel on 1st floor, good common area with TV, computer and kitchen to use. The boys whon ran reception were excellent. Cons: No partition between interior common area and smoking area (balcony) meant the smell of cigarette smoke came in the hostel ALL THE TIME. On on separate note, there was a regular local transexual guest staying at the hostel who conaistently sexually harrassed myself and other males. Apparently he has been banned from other hostels but is allowed to stay at Jesselton Cabin by the owner for some illogical reason.

Best Value for Money in KK”

Location, value for money and hotel cleanliness/standard

We are definitely satisfied with our two (2) nights stay at North Borneo Cabin for three key reasons. First is the location since it is conveniently located at the heart of Jalan Gaya which is accessible to almost all establishments/facilities in KK. Since we came from our hike up Mt Kinabalu, the rooms provided to us where spacious and clean. The staff also are kind enough to spare some electric adapter. The breakfast is modest enough. Overall, our value for money is all worth it. So we highly recommend this place esp for backpackers/transients. Just an added note, local authorities I believe conduct fogging/fumigation at dawn on weekends. In our case, it caused me to initially panic seeing cloud of smoke outside the hotel but for good reasons. So maybe that Cabin staff could advise the guests on this.

Great deal for backpackers/solo travelers ”

location, hostel environment, facilities

that was a great stay over North Borneo Cabin Hostel, light breakfast & coffee/tea be provided by self service, environment was as good as feeling at home with a computer for internet access. brochures and tourist attractions information booklets were ready through my trip. Great location where it was located in the city of Kota Kinabalu, all(Jesselton jetty, Suria shopping mall, Banks, foods, coffee parlour & public transport[Bus & cab]) reachable by walking distance. Staff were english spoken. Ultimately, this hostel was worth the simply low price to stay.

Clean hotel and friendly service”

Clean, convenient

The rooms are clean and tidy. The host young couple are friendly and helpful. They can give you any information regarding travelling around Kota Kinabalu. The location of the hotel is very convenient. It is at the center of the town. There are foodcourts, restaurants just downstairs. But it could be a bit noisy outside at night because of its location, at the center of the town

Pros: Very strategic location, you can walk from Jesselton Port to this hostel, walking distance to everything including Old Town coffee shop; excellent receptionists, they're are very helpful & speak English well, they even booked uber for us going to airport; fast internet; room is spacious Cons: Since our room is in first floor where the gate and common area are located, we can hear people coming in & out of the gate and those guests and receptionists staying in the common area just outside our room

Good Place to stay and safe budget with many food”

Clean, Friendly Staff, Near to Jetty and Mall and food street (Sunday Market)

I was stay here in groups (5 Peoples), we using mix dormitory room with Air Conditioner and 3 fan. Room was really clean, fresh and this hostel has a good staff. Wifi was sucks because i stayed 6 night its always Disconnect. Bathroom and shower was good, i met a lot of nice travelers from china, malay, phillipines, england etc ... Breakfast is a toast with strawberry jam, tea, coffee ... but you can find a lot of food near this "gaya street". 10 minutes walking to Jesselton Point, if you wanna go to Island 5 minutes to Suria Sabah Mall 1 seconds to Sunday market:D This hostel good for travelers with limited budgets, very recommended ... Nice Hostel

central location, very secure with camera, price

The North Borneo Cabin hotel is backpacker hostel with really good price. The staff is helpful, we needed to change our room 2 times in 20 minutes but they helped us. The rooms and common areas are simple and clean. The hostel is secure because of the CCTV. The breakfast is only toast bred and tee but there are many local restaurants in this area.

Location of the hotel is superb - right opposite the mall which had a cinema, ktv, supermarket & shops. Good base for sightseeing in Kota Kinabalu”

great location, airport bus nearby, many local restaurants nearby

North Borneo Cabin is located right at Gaya Street which is the site of the Sunday Market. Its also near the mall, boardwalk, Atkinsons Clocktower and Signal Hill Observation Tower. There are several good local restaurants nearby which makes the hostel literally a stone's throw away from (almost) everything. The only minor inconvenience with regards to going around was that the bus terminals servicing the places of interest outside the city center (Tanjung Aru, Masjid Bandaraya, Masjid Negara Sabah, Mustafa Tower, etc) was located on the other side of the city center. Not too long a walk, about 20-30 minutes, but under the blazing sun this could be very uncomfortable. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating and we had no problems when making simple requests. One recommendation would be to change the lighting of the private room (F) where we stayed. It was a bit dim and made the room look gloomy.

mixed connection”

nice environment and location ever

when i first step in the room, I'd feel shock and panic. It's my first time stay at backpacker, and I saw male in the room. First when I booked, I didn't know that it's mixed between male and female, and when I am room, I just saw one male inside the room, well, shock and feel somehow panic for the following day. after a walk to the city and back to the lodge, I saw other at the room, only I feel secure and also make friend with the stranger. It make me learnt don't judge a book by it cover.if you want to be a backpacker, first you should brave up yourself and be confident in yourself but also learn the way to protect yourself. I know many people such as Sabahan, France as well as my schoolmate that we meet so coincident. four night stay at the lodge, I like the location, all the nice food is around such as the famous Bak Kut Teh ever in the town "Yu Kee Bak Kut Teh" just down at the lodge, you can also have you dessert at Zen Q just beside the bak kut teh restaurant. breakfast with a hot pau which the most nice and my like pau is bo lou pau-pineapple pau. nice.it's quit peaceful lodge and you can enjoy yourself with the 'free'-free internet connection, free internet access from PC, free breakfast and free water refill. enjoy yourself as I do.

The smoke also will go into the dorm room if you stay in the room next to the main hangout area. The mattresses could be a little better but it was okay.
