This is a hotel not close to any where”
no hot water at least 2 times, inefficient staff, poor transportation
This hotel was permeated with cigarrette smell every where - even in the walls. I asked for a non smoking room and I got an ash tray. That was not the worst. This hotel was actually in an area where few taxi wanted to go. They all overcharge you to compensate for their trip back to city. There were bus routes but no staff was helpful. The surrounding areas of the hotel had nothing to see, eat or drink. Nothing decent, that is. 2 days I had hot water ran out on me in the middle of a shower. I had to wait for couple minutes to turn it on again. Hot water lifespan is 2-3 minutes at a time. I asked for wake up call at 6. I got it at 7. Nobody could understand English. You will be better served in somewhere else.

Friendly, helpful and close to fab restaurants”
Large, comfortable rooms and close to fab restaurants
Our stay in Datong was just for two nights to see the Yungang Grottoes. The city itself is an industrial city and there isn't much to do apart from the grottoes and and the hanging temples. you can visit these attractions via, tour, taxi or public transport. The hotel has its own restaurant but went around the corner and found this amazing restaurant where no English was spoken but with some pointing at pictures and a translation app on the iPhone we managed to order and it was so worth it as it was one of the best meals we ever had and super cheap.

Clean and Well-Maintained”
Staff, Cleanliness, Security
The room had two single beds, a mini plasma TV, a desk, and an air-con. In defense of the staff, who came off as snobbish in some reviews the comments section of Agoda, they are not really that standoffish. They just do not speak English. I was assisted despite the language barrier, but it should be noted that I do speak some Mandarin.

Comfortable and clean room”
Clean, neat, heated
Stayed for one night. The room was clean, tidy, and heated. It was in a decent location, though Datong is small enough to get anywhere quickly.

Inconvenient location, mediocre staff, nice rooms”
comfortable bed, clean, good price
After reading the good reviews about this place, my husband and I were really looking forward to our stay at Jinjiang Inn. Unfortunately, very little about our stay was good and I cannot honestly recommend it to other travelers. Although the price is good, the location of the hotel is quite inconvenient: it is approximately 9 km from the train station, and we were not able to get any information from the staff about which buses to take to get to a more central location: when we asked, they just shook their heads vigorously and told us to use taxis. As a taxi each way was anywhere from 20 - 30 RMB (using the meter), you can easily add another $10USD to your nightly rate which makes this hotel not nearly as much of a bargain. We would have preferred to pay a bit more but be in a part of Datong that was a bit less of a ghost town; there is literally nothing near this place. We also found the staff generally less than helpful. I understand that there is a language barrier, but unlike others, we did not find the staff willing to try to work around this save for the night we checked in: the girl who dealt with us wrote everything to us on a piece of paper, clearly using a translation program on the computer; we appreciated this effort and it allowed us to actually understand concepts like "please pay a deposit for the key card"! All other attempts to communicate with the staff were much more difficult and frustrating as the staff only spoke Chinese and did not avail themselves of any translation options, not even when I offered them my phrase book. They also would not call us a taxi for the day we checked out, depsite the fact that our train left very early and we could not be guaranteed that we could flag a cab down. I admit, the room was clean and the bed was the most comfortable we have had in China. But the road the hotel is on is noisy, so it was still hard to get a good night's sleep. Spend a bit more (or not, when you consider cab fare) and stay elsewhere!

Great rooms and friendly service”
The rooms were clean and the AC worked wonderfully well.
The staff was very friendly. Our Chinese is not that great, but they had an English speaking staff member and what they didn't understand we wrote down and they looked it up in Baidu's translation program. The rooms were clean and the air conditioner worked extremely well so the nights were comfortable.
