Good location”

The hotel is located very close to a metro line, with friendly competent staff, and comfortable rooms.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The directions was a bit confusing as the hotel is better known as the Shanghai YMCA Hotel, rather than "Jinjiang Metropolo" -- as it used to be the Shanhai YMCA. It has a beautiful facade in the style of a Buddhist temple and looks quite unique between the other more modern buildings in Shanghai. My room was very comfortable, and clean. Only the curtains were a little dirty for some reason, but the rest was spotless. The internet connection was decent, although not great -- but I'm used to Korean standards, so it is difficult to compare. If you don't mind a 15 minute walk, it is relatively close to many local attractions such as The Bund, and just across the street from the Shanghai Museum. I gave a 3 out of 5 for the food, but honestly I did not eat at the hotel, so I simply gave the middle score for that. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Historic Building with Modern Twist, Best Location”

- Location, Location, LOCATION : When you visit Shanghai, you tend to go for Nanjing Lu/The Bund. But forget them, stay here. 2 mins to Dashijie metro (direct line to Expo line), 15 mins walk to Huahai Rd/Xin Tian Di, 15 mins walk to Nanjing Lu. You get some "green" since you're across people square garden. - Modern Stylish Room : this is designer hotel but affordable, everything is in luxury. you can order room service via TV as well
- English proficiency : unfortunately the concierge seems to lack English language (but just call up the reception)

We were a bit sceptical at first seeing this is an old YMCA. But, we were quickly impressed by the modernity and how well designed this hotel is. Build in 1920-1930s, it has the old Shanghai western-chinese architecture, but JinJiang has transformed it into modern, stylish, sleek hotel. They still retain the old building, but the interior is well beyond modern. Interactive TV set (w access to room service, internet), stylish ammenities, sleek room design & cabinets. The best thing got to be the LOCATION. We stayed at room 705 (got an early check-in since we want to go to Expo on that day), great view to People Square's garden. Exit the hotel, turn left, and 2 minutes later you land at Metro station (just 1 stop to People Square,5 stops to Expo park). Turn left & 15 mins walk, you got Huahai shopping road & infamous Xin Tian Di; turn right & 15 mins walk, you got Nanjing Lu. Service was excellent. We would definitely stay at Marvel again if we visit Shanghai.

A quiet retreat from the busy streets of Shanghai”

Location, ambience and comfort

We had an enjoyable three nights at the Metropolo. The address given was Tibet Road but be aware that the hotel is situated on the main Xixang road. So much easier to find than we first thought. Good location with a tube station around the corner and Peoples Square and Nanjing Road within walking distance. The hotel has a little 'old Shanghai' about it with lovely decor in the public areas. The history of the building is evident and once inside it was a quiet haven. The room was comfortable and the shower spacious. Nice toiletries too (always a treat when on a longer holiday) the room smelt a little musty but it seemed to pass once the air con kicked in. We didn't try the breakfast so couldn't comment on the food. We would happily stay here again.

Great location
None

The hotek was previously known as YMCA hotel, but was taken over and renovated by Jinjiang Hotel Group. The outside of the building is a heritagr design structure but interior design is modern. It's is strategically located between HuaiHai Road and Nanjing Pedestrian Road. Next to the hotel is subway Line no 8 and the next statiion from subway Line no 8 is People Square, is an intershange station whereby you can change to other subway lines. Within walking distance, about 10min walk is the Nanjing Pedestrian Shopping Street. Surrounding the hotel there are many restaurants i.e. Hong kong cafe, McDonald, 7-11, bakery shops etc.

A gem in central Shanghai :)”

The Metropolo is a lovely hotel. It is pitched as a 3 star as it does not have a pool, and the YMCA label is quite misleading. The rooms are spacious, as is the bathroom, with separate bath from shower. The beds are very comfortable, as are the pillows. The bath linen was white and fluffy, and the bed linen on par with a 4 or 5 star hotel. The room had comfortable and well kept furnishings, with modern calming colours. Clean walls, and no scuffs on the furnishings - really nice to see a 3 star hotel look more like a boutique hotel. The only thing I can mention is that the internet is not always so great, however not sure if this is china in general? The location is close to Peoples Park, and we could walk to the Bund, although it took about 20 minutes. The backstreet is filled with local restaurants. The hotel has a restaurant as well, which was good. I would recommend this hotel for business as well as family travellers.

Marvel Hotel - Value for money”

Is located next to the sub line no 8, surrounded with many restaurants and shopping malls
the entrance look old and need to change lift to get to the lobby

The hotel is located at the end of Huai Hai Road and across the People's Square in Shanghai. The hotel is previously YMCA hotel but was taken over by Jin Jiang Hotel Group and they have refurnished all the rooms and the lobby. The rooms are very modern and new. The hotel is just located within 2 min walk away from the subway line no 8 and it's convenient to travel around shanghai without relying on the taxi as sometime it's very difficult to get a taxi during peak hours. Around the hotel there are many restaurants, convenient stores and shopping mall is just within 5 to 10 min walk away along Huai Hai Road.

we stayed there for 4 nights and so regret we changed to stay in another river side hotel with higher price but such a disappointment. this hotel building is in traditional red bricks with their chinese colonial style. the great thing is you are close to the metro, the shanghai theatre (just across the street), walkable to the people square, shanghai urban planning museum, huaihai road of food where you can find many xiao long bao (dumplings), lamb shabu (hot pot), noodles & rice dishes, etc.

a lot of traffic

We choose the hotel for its situation, nearby People Square. Our choice was good : ten minutes walking from People Square and the shoppingplace of Nanjing Road. The subway was only two minutes walking. The hotel give all we wanted for the price paid. Our room was at the backside and the traffic did not matter there. Breakfast was good chinese and continental with enough choice. The room was clean and the bathroom clean and with all the confort we needed. I only missed the possibility of making me a coffee, thee was available. For us it was a very good hotel for its money and I will certainly stay there again in the future

Location

Good hotel, with a great locationI have stayed 2 times now in Shanghai. This is going to be my hotel of choice. Metro from Pudong airport only about 8 Rmb. Take about an hour. There are high end shops close by and the cheap fake market is about 15 minutes away. The rooms are clean and have real high speed internet , not wireless in room ( lobby only ) The metro 8 line is only 2 minutes away and the the main peoples square metro is less then 5 minutes. You will like this hotel. The check staff speaks good english.

Best value in the heart of the city.”

Comfortable modern room. Friendly, attentive staff. Great location.

This was our best Agoda value ever. At about 50% special deal we felt that we were in luxury. The old YMCA building has been beautifully renovated with large, comfortable, modern rooms with all the amenities. Large flat screen tv, good internet, comfortable bed, great bathroom, etc. The staff were most friendly and helpful. Located quite close to metro station which made it easy to get to all areas of Shanghai. Also close enough to many areas that we walked every day to Bund, People's Park, Old Town, Yu Gardens, etc. Yunnan food street with many local eateries one street back of hotel. We truly enjoyed our stay at the Marvel!

this hotel is located about 50 meters from exit 2 of dashjie subway station and across the road from shanghai museum. i liked the atmosphere. it is the old ymca building and had a lovely old lobby but the rooms have been modernized and very nicely decorated. the bed was the best i have experienced so far in china. the staff are very helpful and have an english to chinese translator program for the trickier questions. there is also a self serve laundry where you can do your own washing. i would stay at this hotel again.

I wasn't expecting much given the price, but I listened to the reviews and lucky I did. The hotel is great. I love the rooms, where it's located. Very clean, comfortable and modern

this was my first trip to shanghai and wanted something central. the marvel proved to be everything it said on the web site. close to the subway (across the road) the shops were about 5-10 minutes walk and so was the bund. it is only 10 mins cab drive to many other locations too, (depending on traffic).although we didn't eat in the hotel, the restaurant looked very good and have ranked it as a 5 based only on this. we were more than pleased with the room, particularly with the price from agoda. it was very comfortable and spacious too. we would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I booked through agoda for the Shanghai world expo. It was an excellent choice, easy to find the hotel as it's located above the Da Shi Jie (Great World) subway station (No.1 line). Easily accesible by Maglev train or no.2 line from Pudong Int'l airport, change to no.7 line from Longyang station and then to no.1 line. Nice modern decor, clean rooms and value for money room rates. Great location near People's Square and there are many eating places, shopping centres conveniently located around the hotel. I'll definitely choose this hotel again.

This hotel rates above 5 star in our opinion. The location is very central to many restaurant choices, within walking distance to Nanking Road East, to the Bund, to the Shanghai Museum. The two front desk staff on Tuesday, 3 Oct, when we arrived could not have been any more helpful, welcoming like we were long time friends, and very positive attitude. If I owned a hotel I would want these two people working at my hotel. We would not only recommend the hotel but would happily stay here again ourselves.

MTA station was right around the corner. So convenient to transfer to another line. Many and shops restaurants around the area. Able to walk to People Square. YMCA front desk was friendly and spoke English well. The first night, I went down early morning to report I woke up with bed bug bites on leg and arm which I showed them . I request to be transferred to another room. They were very apologetic and helpful. By noon, they transferred and moved our luggage to upgraded room. They even sent a fruits to our room. Other than that, the rooms/ bathroom were clean. Yes, if I return to Shanghai,I would stay here again, this time in an upgraded room.

Marvel hotel was previously a YMCA. However it was recently renovated and all of the rooms are quite new. In this instance we stayed in the deluxe room. The best selling point for this hotel is definately the location and value. You are downstairs from the subway, and walking distance to one of the main core streets (forgot the name) with shopping and tourist spots. You also only one station from People's Sq and a couple from the Bund. Great central place and great value for the money.

hotel was fabulous. the quality of their products (shower gel, toothbrush, slip on slippers) provided/chosen was much better from the other china hotels. the location was really good as well, just the left side, there are major shopping centres and restaurants around. the train line is also at the basement of the shopping centre. there are always taxis waiting in the front of the hotels as well. as we departed Shanghai to go to Beijing, we noticed that we had left something in the hotel. we have requested the staff to send back the item back to Singapore and long story short, one of the staff, Lin Jie, went through extra mile beyond her job scope, to make everything possible for us. Marvel Hotel has great people working for them. I will definately stay there the next time i travel to Shanghai again.
